Background: Growth differentiation factor-15 (GDF15) is a member of the growth differentiation factor subfamily in the transforming growth factor beta superfamily. GDF15 has multiple functions and can regulate biological processes. High levels of GDF15 in the circulation can affect metabolic processes.

Supramolecular polyfluorenol enable assembly into conjugated polymer nanoparticles (CPNs). Poly{9-[4-(octyloxy)phenyl]fluoren-9-ol-2,7-diyl} (PPFOH)-based supramolecular nanoparticles are prepared via reprecipitation. PPFOH nanoparticles with diameters ranging from 40 to 200 nm are obtained by adding different amounts of water into DMF solution.

We report a novel composite material of hierarchically structured MnO grown on three-dimensional graphene foam (3DGF). This hierarchical MnO/3DGF composite was fabricated as a flexible and freestanding biosensor for nonenzymatic determination of glucose and HO, significant analytes in health care and food industry. The MnO/3DGF-based biosensor achieved high sensitivity, large linear range and low detection limit for the detection of both analytes, due to the synergistic effects of the two materials, which combines the high electrocatalytic activity of the nanostructured MnO network, and high conductivity and large surface area of 3DGF.

A ternary polymer memory device based on a single polymer with on-chain Ir(III) complexes is fabricated by combining multiple memory mechanisms into one system. Excellent ternary memory performances-low reading, writing, and erasing voltages and good stability for all three states-are achieved.

Using a simple hydrothermal procedure, cobalt oxide (Co(3)O(4)) nanowires were in situ synthesized on three-dimensional (3D) graphene foam grown by chemical vapor deposition. The structure and morphology of the resulting 3D graphene/Co(3)O(4) composites were characterized by scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, and Raman spectroscopy. The 3D graphene/Co(3)O(4) composite was used as the monolithic free-standing electrode for supercapacitor application and for enzymeless electrochemical detection of glucose.

Microbial fuel cell (MFC) is of great interest as a promising green energy source to harvest electricity from various organic matters. However, low bacterial loading capacity and low extracellular electron transfer efficiency between the bacteria and the anode often limit the practical applications of MFC. In this work, a macroporous and monolithic MFC anode based on polyaniline hybridized three-dimensional (3D) graphene is demonstrated.

In this work, we report a rational design of graphene sheets-wrapped anatase TiO(2) hollow particles. This unique hybrid structure demonstrates significantly enhanced lithium storage capabilities compared to the pure TiO(2) counterpart, which clearly uncovers the merit of structural design and rational integration with graphene sheets.
