Article Synopsis
  • PPARα and CPT1 are key players in regulating lipid metabolism and are potential therapeutic targets for nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD).
  • A new series of indole ethylamine derivatives were developed, with one specific compound showing effective activation of PPARα and CPT1a.
  • This compound reduced intracellular triglyceride levels in AML12 cells more effectively than the common drug fenofibrate, while also enhancing enzymes involved in fat breakdown, suggesting its potential as a drug candidate for NAFLD treatment.

Nine previously undescribed diisoprenyl-cyclohexene-type meroterpenoids, aspergienynes A-I, together with five known analogues, were obtained from the mangrove endophytic fungal strain Aspergillus sp. GXNU-Y65. The diisoprenyl-cyclohexene-type meroterpenoids were elucidated based on multispectroscopic analysis, and the previously undescribed compounds' absolute configurations were established via electronic circular dichroism calculations.

This study explored the protective effect of atractylenolide Ⅰ(AO-Ⅰ) against acetaminophen(APAP)-induced acute liver injury(ALI) in mice and its underlying mechanism. C57 BL/6 J mice were randomly divided into a control group, an APAP group(500 mg·kg~(-1)), a low-dose combination group(500 mg·kg~(-1) APAP + 60 mg·kg~(-1) AO-Ⅰ), and a high-dose combination group(500 mg·kg~(-1) APAP + 120 mg·kg~(-1) AO-Ⅰ). ALI was induced by intraperitoneal injection of APAP(500 mg·kg~(-1)).

The placenta may play a key role in the activation of inflammation and initiation of insulin resistance (IR) during gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) pathogenesis. Interleukin (IL)-1β and IL-18, regulated by NLR family pyrin domain containing-3 (NLRP3) inflammasome, are important inflammatory cytokines in the initiation of maternal IR during GDM. However, the mechanism responsible for the regulatory of NLRP3 inflammasome in placenta remains unknown.

Objectives: Recurrent aphthous ulcer (RAU) is a common oral disease with unclear mechanism. This study aimed to explore the serum signatures of RAU patients via proteomic and transcriptomic analysis.

Methods: This study was based on clinical observation.

The role of forkhead box O3 (FOXO3) as a tumor suppressor gene and its association with the human lifespan is well documented. However, several studies have indicated that high expression of FOXO3 is also significantly associated with tumorigenesis. The aim of the present study was to determine the clinical significance of FOXO3 in the development and prognosis of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC).

Tanshinone â…¡_A( Tan â…¡_A),the liposoluble constituents of Salvia miltiorrhiza, can not only ameliorate the lipidic metabolism and decrease the concentration of lipid peroxidation, but also resist oxidation damage, scavenge free radicals and control inflammation, with a protective effect on prognosis after liver function impairment. Therefore, the studies on the exact mechanism of Tan â…¡_A in protecting the liver can provide important theoretical and experimental basis for the prevention and treatment effect of Tan â…¡_A for liver injury. In the present study, the protective effects and mechanism of Tan â…¡_A on 4-hydroxynonenal( 4-HNE)-induced liver injury were investigated in vitro.

Alcoholic liver disease (ALD) remains an important health problem worldwide. The disease spectrum is featured by early steatosis, steatohepatitis (steatosis with inflammatory cells infiltration and necrosis), with some individuals ultimately progressing to fibrosis/cirrhosis. Although the disease progression is well characterized, no effective therapies are currently available for the treatment in humans.

Objective: To investigate the effects and mechanism of intracellular 4-hydroxynonenal (4-HNE) accumulation on tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-induced hepatotoxicity in alcoholic liver disease (ALD).

Methods: An ALD model was established in male C57BL/6 mice (6-8 weeks old) by feeding an ethanol-containing diet for 5 weeks; mice given regular (non-ethanol) diet served as controls. ALD-related changes in 4-HNE and TNF levels were detected by western blotting.

Hyperlipidemia (HLP) is the No.1 risk factor for patients with atherosclerosis (AS) and is directly related to the occurrence of coronary artery disease (CAD) and cerebrovascular disease. Therefore, prevention and treatment of AS is of great importance and of practical significance in controlling the incidence and mortality of CAD.
