Objective: This study aimed to identify the incidence, risk factors, and outcomes of permanent pacemaker (PPM) implantation after transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) procedures.

Methods: A retrospective analysis was conducted on 70 patients who underwent TAVI at the Department of Cardiology, Fujian Provincial Hospital, from January 2018 to March 2022. Based on whether a new PPM was implanted after TAVI, all patients were divided into two groups: NEW PPM and NO PPM.

Background: Malnutrition is linked to a higher risk of unfavorable outcomes in various illnesses. The present investigation explored the correlation between inadequate nutritional condition and outcomes in older individuals diagnosed with hyperlipidemia.

Methods: The geriatric nutritional risk index (GNRI) was used to evaluate the nutritional status.

Oral microecological dysregulation has been shown to be associated with various immune system disorders. Henoch-schonlein purpura (HSP) is an autoimmune small vessel inflammatory disease in children of uncertain etiology, and studies have suggested that streptococcal infection may be an influential factor in its development. However, the relationship between oral microecological dysregulation and HSP has not been clearly studied so far.

Background: Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) patients complicated with portal vein tumor thrombus (PVTT) exhibit poor prognoses and treatment responses.

Aim: To investigate efficacies and safety of the combination of PD-1 inhibitor, transcatheter arterial chemoembolization (TACE) and Lenvatinib in HCC subjects comorbid with PVTT.

Methods: From January 2019 to December 2020, HCC patients with PVTT types I-IV were retrospectively enrolled at Beijing Ditan Hospital.

Objective: This study aims to explore the pathological characteristics of metabolic-related hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and its correlation with metabolic factors.

Methods: Fifty-one patients with liver cancer of unknown causes were enrolled. Biopsy of the liver and staining of the liver tissues with hematoxylin-eosin as well as special and immunohistochemical stains were performed.

Opioid use disorder (OUD) has become a considerable global public health challenge; however, potential medications for the management of OUD that are effective, safe, and nonaddictive are not available. Accumulating preclinical evidence indicates that antagonists of the dopamine D receptor (DR) have effects on addiction in different animal models. We have previously reported that YQA14, a DR antagonist, exhibits very high affinity and selectivity for DRs over DRs, and is able to inhibit cocaine- or methamphetamine-induced reinforcement and reinstatement in self-administration tests.

To retrospectively compare the clinical efficacy and safety of CT-guided percutaneous injection of lobaplatin vs. ethanol for chemical ablation combined with radiofrequency ablation (RFA) in patients with hepatocellular carcinomas (HCCs) in high-risk locations. From January 2017 to June 2018, a total of 41 patients with HCCs in high-risk locations were enrolled and divided into two groups: percutaneous lobaplatin injection (PLI+RFA) group and percutaneous ethanol injection (PEI+RFA) group.

Background: Patients with concentric shrinkage mode after neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC) is considered to be ideal candidates for breast conserving treatment (BCT). While, what proportion of patients would represent CSM have not been well defined. This study was conducted to pool the rates of concentric shrinkage mode (CSM) in patients undergoing NAC, determine the impact of hormonal receptor on the shrinkage mode after NAC and estimate the rates of the CSM in various subgroups.

Article Synopsis
  • Drug addiction can cause people to go back to using drugs when they see things that remind them of using drugs.
  • This study looked at a specific brain pathway (called VTA to NAcore) in mice to understand how these reminders lead to a relapse.
  • The research found that activating this brain pathway made mice want to seek rewards like drugs, showing it plays a big role in drug relapse.

Purpose: Proliferative diabetic retinopathy (PDR) is a serious ocular disease that can lead to retinal microvascular complications in patients with diabetes mellitus. To date, no studies have explored PDR development by analyzing the aqueous humor (AH). Therefore we carried out tandem mass tag (TMT) proteomic quantification to compare AH protein profiles between PDR and non-PDR subjects.

The shrinkage mode of tumor extent after neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC) is an important index to evaluate the odds of breast-conserving surgery. However, there is no sufficient measurement to predict the shrinkage mode after NAC. In this study, we analyzed 24 patients' formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded samples before and after treatment and analyzed 456 cancer-related genes panel by using target next-generation sequencing.

  • There is a big problem with drug-resistant tuberculosis (DR-TB) in China, especially in Jiangsu Province. The goal is to find ways to better identify and manage this disease.
  • Between 2008 and 2019, they looked at different programs and data from six areas in Jiangsu to see what worked to detect DR-TB.
  • By 2017, all areas had better testing methods, which helped confirm more cases of TB and even drug resistance, especially in places that got help from global organizations like the Global Fund and the Gates Foundation.

Urinary incontinence (UI) is a common and refractory complication for patients with neurogenic detrusor overactivity (NDO) or idiopathic overactive bladder (IOAB). To evaluate the effect of Botulinum toxin A (BTX-A) based on different dosages strategy for UI. The MEDLINE, Ovid EMbase, The Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials (CENTRAL), China National Knowledge Internet (CNKI), and WanFang database were searched for relevant published randomized controlled trials (RCTs) between 1969 to September 31, 2018.

Article Synopsis
  • Researchers created a new 3D electric model called an ophthalmotrope to help teach how our eyes move better than old models.
  • The new model shows how different eye muscles work together, making it easier for students to learn.
  • Tests showed that students who used the 3D model did better on quizzes and exams compared to those who used the traditional model.

The objective of this study was to examine the association between patient satisfaction with community health service (CHS) and self-management behaviors in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM).In all, 1691 patients with T2DM from 8 community health centers in 5 provinces in China participated in the present study. The dependent variables included 4 measures of self-management behaviors: regular self-monitoring of blood glucose (SMBG), prescribed medication adherence, recommended dietary changes, and regular exercise.

The aim of the present study was to evaluate the effects of passage and cryopreservation of choroid plexus epithelial cells on their secretion of neurotrophic factors. Choroid plexus epithelial cells were cryopreserved and thawed following primary culture or passage cultured for up to two passages. The supernatant of primary, first/second passage and cryopreserved-thawed choroid plexus epithelial cells was collected when cells reached 80-90% confluence.
