Fruit spoilage caused by microorganisms results in huge economic losses and health risks worldwide every year. To develop an intelligent antimicrobial material capable of responding to the physiological activity of postharvest fruits and releasing antibacterial agents on demand, we fabricated a pH-responsive film for the release of chlorine dioxide (ClO) using carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) and sodium chlorite (NaClO) via the solution casting method, with a CMC:NaClO ratio of 1:2 w/w. An acid environment simulated by 4 % acetic acid activated 43 % of ClO released by the film within 7 days.

Post-translational modifications (PTMs) of histone H4 play significant roles in the regulation of chromatin status. Here, we present a protocol for semisynthesis of histone H4 by sortase-mediated ligation (SML). We describe steps for solid-phase peptide synthesis of H4R40C(1-42), recombinant expression and purification of H4(41-102), expression and purification of eSrt(2A-9), and preparation of acrylamidine.

Background: Limited evidence exists regarding the meaningfulness of symptoms experienced in early Parkinson's disease (PD).
Objectives: To identify the most bothersome symptoms experienced by people with early PD, leveraging data from the Parkinson's Disease Patient Report of Problems (PD-PROP) questionnaire within the Fox Insight Study.
Methods: Individuals with a self-reported diagnosis of PD completed the PD-PROP questionnaire, reporting up to five most bothersome symptoms.
Background: Pancreatic cancer (PC) is a highly aggressive malignancy with a poor prognosis due to its late-stage diagnosis and limited treatment options.
Objectives: This study aimed to elucidate the molecular mechanisms underlying PC progression and identify potential molecular targets for its diagnosis and treatment.
Methods: DAZAP1 expression in PC tissues, normal tissues and cell lines was assessed using immunohistochemistry (IHC), reverse transcription-quantitative polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR) and western blotting.
Inflammation is a driving force of hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs) aging, causing irreversible exhaustion of functional HSCs. However, the underlying mechanism of HSCs erosion by inflammatory insult remains poorly understood. Here, we find that transient LPS exposure primes aged HSCs to undergo accelerated differentiation at the expense of self-renewal, leading to depletion of HSCs.

Methods: This research undertook a comprehensive analysis of the epidemiology and disease burden of fungal dermatoses across five East Asian countries (China, Japan, Republic of Korea, Democratic People's Republic of Korea and Mongolia) via the Global Burden of Disease (GBD) database from 1990 to 2021.
Purpose: To explore the longitudinal changes in retinal and choroidal thickness and their relation with the onset of type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM) in children.
Methods: Thirty-eight children with T1DM and 71 healthy controls were included in this 3-year longitudinal study. Ophthalmic and systemic examinations were conducted on each participant.

Hypothesis: Current models for receding contact angles of Cassie-Baxter state droplets on textured hydrophobic substrates are applicable only to a specific structural type, e.g., pillar (above which a droplet has isolated contact line and continuous liquid-vapor interface) or pore (continuous contact line and isolated liquid-vapor interface), signifying a lack of universality.

Identifying and qualifying the spatio-temporal variation of air pollution and its driving forces of Shandong Province would help in the formulation of effective mitigation policies. A deep understanding of the coupling relationship between air quality and socioeconomic drivers was essential for evaluating the quality of urbanization and long term sustainability.

Blood cells abnormalities play a significant role in the onset and progression of sepsis; however, the potential causal relationship between platelets and sepsis remains unclear, as does whether immune cells mediate the interaction between platelets and sepsis. This study aims to explore the potential causal relationship between platelets and sepsis and analyze the mediating effect of immune cells.

Objective: This study aimed to determine the regulatory effect and potential mechanism of C. butyricum LTA on LPS-stimulated inflammation in intestinal porcine epithelial line-J2 (IPEC-J2).
The management of patients with myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) refractory to hypomethylating agents (HMAs) remains a challenge with few reliably effective treatments. Preclinical studies have shown that the inhibition of the nuclear export protein XPO1 causes nuclear accumulation of p53 and disruption of NF-κB signaling; both of which are relevant targets for MDS. Selinexor is an XPO1 inhibitor with demonstrated efficacy in MDS patients.

Swine influenza virus (SIV) is a highly contagious pathogen that poses significant economic challenges to the swine industry and carries zoonotic potential, underscoring the need for vigilant surveillance. In this study, we performed a comprehensive genetic and molecular analysis of H3N2 SIV isolates obtained from 372 swine samples collected in Shandong Province, China. Phylogenetic analysis revealed two distinct genotypes.

Methods: Ninety-four patients, including 55 with pathologically verified CRLM, were enrolled, totaling 422 lesions (287 metastatic, 135 benign). Two independent readers assessed three MRI protocols per patient: Protocol 1 included non-contrast sequences (T2-weighted turbo spin-echo, T1-weighted Dixon, diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI), and ADC mapping).
Rice is susceptible to cold temperatures, especially during the seedling stage. Despite extensive research into the cold tolerance mechanisms of rice, the number of cloned genes remains limited. Plant subtilisin-like proteases (SUBs or SBTs) are protein-hydrolyzing enzymes which play important roles in various aspects of plant growth as well as the plant response to biotic and abiotic stress.

To address this, we develop an anti-PD-L1-expressing nanovesicle loaded with the STING agonist cGAMP (aPD-L1 NVs@cGAMP) to remodel the tumor microenvironment and thereby enhance CAR-T cell activity. Following pulmonary delivery, the nanovesicles rapidly accumulate in the lung and selectively deliver STING agonists to PD-L1-overexpressing cells via the PD-1/PD-L1 interaction.

Increasing evidence suggests that the NOD-like receptor thermal protein domain associated protein 3 (NLRP3)-mediated pyroptosis of nucleus pulposus cells (NPCs) plays a crucial role in the pathological progression of IVDD. Pyroptosis is a novel form of programmed cell death characterized by the formation of plasma membrane pores by gasdermin family proteins, leading to cell swelling, membrane rupture, and the release of inflammatory cytokines, which trigger an inflammatory response.

In placental histopathology, multiple functional tissues can be inspected as potential signals reflecting the transfer functionality between fetal and maternal circulations. However, the identification of multiple functional tissues is challenging due to (1) severe heterogeneity in texture, size and shape, (2) distribution across different scales and (3) the need for comprehensive assessment at the whole slide image (WSI) level.

Layered transition metal oxide (NaTMO) cathodes are considered highly appropriate for the practical applications of sodium-ion batteries (SIBs) owing to their facile synthesis and high theoretical capacity. Generally, the phase evolution behaviors of NaTMO during solid-state reactions at high temperature closely related to their carbon footprint, prime cost, and the eventual electrochemical properties, while the thermal stability in various desodiated states associated with wide temperature fluctuations are extremely prominent to the electrochemical properties and safety of SIB devices. Therefore, in this review, the influences of sintering conditions such as pyrolysis temperature, soaking time, and cooling rates on the phase formation patterns of NaTMO are summarized.
