Obesity is one of the threats to human health and survival. High fat diet (HFD)-induced obesity leads to adipose tissue fibrosis and a series of metabolic diseases. There are some people still thin under HFD, a phenomenon known as the "obesity resistance (OR) phenotype".

Article Synopsis
  • The study used fMRI technology to compare children with strabismus and amblyopia (SA) to healthy controls, focusing on changes in fractional amplitude of low-frequency fluctuation (fALFF) values in specific brain regions.
  • Researchers enrolled 23 children with SA and 23 matched healthy controls, discovering significant differences in fALFF values, which could serve as a diagnostic index for strabismus.
  • Results showed decreased fALFF values in certain areas tied to visual processing and eye movement, highlighting potential pathological mechanisms underlying strabismus in children.

The present study explored changes of the SIRT6/NF-κB pathway in myocardial hypoxia/reoxygenation induced injury and the effects on mitochondrial damage and myocardial damage by regulating SIRT6. SIRT6 expression decreased and NF-κB expression increased in H9c2 cells during hypoxic injury. Cell death and mitochondrial defects paralleled mPTP opening, and a decrease in ΔΨm occurred in hypoxic myocytes compared with normoxic control cells in annexin V and propidium iodide staining and TUNEL results.

In the title coordination polymer, [Dy2(C6H8O4)(C2O4)2(H2O)2] n , the asymmetric unit consists of one Dy(3+) cation, one half of an adipate anion, two halves of oxalate anions and one coordinating water mol-ecule. The adipate and oxalate ions are located on centres of inversion. The Dy(3+) cation has a distorted tricapped trigonal-prismatic geometry and is coordinated by nine O atoms, four belonging to three adipate anions, four to two oxalate anions and one from an aqua ligand.

Objective: Insulin resistance (IR) is an established risk factor for colorectal cancer (CRC). Given that CRC and IR physiologically overlap and the calpain-10 gene (CAPN10) is a candidate for IR, we explored the association between CAPN10 and CRC risk.

Methods: Blood samples of 400 case-control pairs were genotyped, and the lifestyle and dietary habits of these pairs were recorded and collected.

Objective: To analyze the sensitivity of effect factors between the PCL-C and the SCL-90, to provide evidence for social psychological crisis screening and post-trauma interventions.

Methods: We administered the PCL-C and SCL-90 to screen for PTSD and other psychological problems among students who survived the disaster and continued their school studies. The surveys were carried out 3, 6, 9, and 12 months after the earthquake.

Objective: This study was to identify the post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) changes and the relative risk factors within one year after Wenchuan earthquake among middle school students in the disaster area.

Methods: A total of 1966 students from 3 schools in Wenchuan earthquake region were selected as the target population. For each student, personal basic information and standard psychological scale (PCL-C, PSSS) were investigated by a self-administrated questionnaire in the 3rd, the 6th, the 9th and the 12th month after the earthquake, respectively.

Objective: To investigate the effect of pressure bionic culture on the morphology and function of rabbit corneal endothelial cells.

Methods: Corneal endothelial cells were separated and purified by tearing apart the descemet and digesting with trypsin and EDTA, then cultured in the plate. The cells were divided into two groups: group A were cultured under atmosphere; cells exposed to 2 kPa (14.

To establish the vascular endothelial cell (VEC) injury model of blood stasis syndrome (BSS) based on integration of disease identification and syndrome differentiation is one of the aspects of the research on BSS model. This paper discussed the necessity and feasibility of the establishment of that model, and suggested that the model is of important academic value, far-reaching scientific research value and active clinic value.

[On "the heart also governs Qi"].

Di Yi Jun Yi Da Xue Xue Bao

October 2003

As the organ of supreme superiority over any other organ of the body, the heart controls the function of the whole body. The lung governs the motions of Qi(vital energy), as have long been established in the basic theories in traditional Chinese medicine, but in this paper, the authors attempt to define the close relations between the heart and Qi by proposing that the heart also governs Qi, through either immediate and indirect actions. The heart plays an important role in the motion, generation and function regulation of Qi, with also impact on the changes of Qi ji, it is therefore of great importance to obtain a thorough comprehension of the associations between the two facets of Qi government by the lung and the heart, for the purpose of accurate clinical identification of the diseases and consequently appropriate treatment.
