Current chemotherapeutic efficacy is limited by the rapid development of multidrug resistance (MDR) in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). In this study, 66 MDR-related hub genes in drug-resistant HCC were identified through combined analysis of differential expressed genes (DEGs), gene functional enrichment, Cox proportional regression, weighted gene co-expression network analysis (WGCNA) and protein-protein interaction (PPI) network construction. A prognostic risk model was established through the LASSO-Cox regression analysis.

Microorganisms change the properties of microplastics, at the same time, microplastics can also affect the distribution of microorganisms. To investigate this issue, we chose to study Jianhu Lake, a plateau lake in southwestern China, by collecting data at three sampling locations. The microplastics and bacterial communities in the sediment columns of Jianhu Lake were sampled within a 0 to 60 cm profile, and the basic characteristics of microplastic abundance, shape, color, size, and polymer type were determined accordingly, via their collection, separation, extraction, and identification.

Article Synopsis
  • Targeted drug delivery systems are utilizing the acidic environment of tumors to improve drug stability and reduce toxicity through modifications like hydroxyl groups.
  • A newly developed "acetal ester bond" offers a highly sensitive and easy-to-synthesize linkage that allows for efficient drug release specifically in acidic conditions while maintaining stability in healthy physiological environments.
  • The acetal ester bond-based paclitaxel conjugate (PTX-COU) demonstrated superior tumor growth inhibition in experiments, suggesting its potential for enhancing targeted drug delivery and minimizing systemic side effects.

Article Synopsis
  • Furmonertinib is a third generation EGFR-TKI used to treat non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), which often coexists with venous thromboembolism (VTE) that is treated using direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs) like rivaroxaban and apixaban.
  • This study investigated how furmonertinib affects the pharmacokinetics of these DOACs in rats, revealing that it significantly increases the concentration and overall exposure (C and AUC) of both rivaroxaban and apixaban while decreasing their clearance (CL/F) and volume of distribution (V/F).
  • The findings highlight the importance of recognizing furmonertinib’s impact on

The diagnosis of occult hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection (OBI) is influenced by factors such as the lower limit of detection (LOD) of the HBV DNA test. However, in clinical practice and scientific research, the lower limit of quantification (LOQ) is often misused as the LOD. This study aims to investigate the impact of misuse of the LOD of the HBV DNA test on the detection rate of OBI, as well as the risk factors for OBI.

Hypothalamic kisspeptin (Kiss1) neurons are vital for pubertal development and reproduction. Arcuate nucleus Kiss1 (Kiss1) neurons are responsible for the pulsatile release of gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH). In females, the behavior of Kiss1 neurons, expressing Kiss1, neurokinin B (NKB), and dynorphin (Dyn), varies throughout the ovarian cycle.

The re-emerging human adenovirus (HAdV) types 3, 7, 14, and 55 of species B have caused severe or even fatal acute respiratory disease. Therefore, the development of multivalent vaccines against HAdV types 3, 7, 14, and 55 remains an important goal. In our previous study, we identified a cross-neutralizing epitope that induced broadly reactive monoclonal neutralizing antibodies against the knob proteins of HAdV types 7, 11, 14, and 55.

The β-Lactam antibiotics represent a widely used class of antibiotics, yet the latent and often overlooked risk of coagulation dysfunction associated with their use underscores the need for proactive assessment. Machine learning methodologies can offer valuable insights into evaluating the risk of coagulation dysfunction associated with β-lactam antibiotics. This study aims to identify the risk factors associated with coagulation dysfunction related to β-lactam antibiotics and to develop machine learning models for estimating the risk of coagulation dysfunction with real-world data.

Although recycling secondary aluminum can lead to energy consumption reduction compared to primary aluminum manufacturing, products produced by traditional melt-based recycling processes are inherently limited in terms of alloy composition and microstructure, and thus final properties. To overcome the constraints associated with melting, we have developed a solid-phase recycling and simultaneous alloying method. This innovative process enables the alloying of 6063 aluminum scrap with copper, zinc, and magnesium to form a nanocluster-strengthened high-performance aluminum alloy with a composition and properties akin to 7075 aluminum alloy.

Ischemic stroke is a major cause of disability and mortality worldwide, with oxidative stress and blood-brain barrier (BBB) injury playing crucial roles in its pathogenesis. Our RNA sequencing results revealed that S100 calcium-binding protein A4 (S100A4) is highly expressed in the middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO) mouse model. We analyzed S100A4 expression in ischemic stroke patients and in mice subjected to the MCAO model.

A straightforward approach to fabricating robust and versatile solid-phase microextraction (SPME) fibers is crucial for the extensive research and application of this notable sample preparation technique. Herein, we proposed a strategy for preparation of oxidative polyacrylonitrile (O-PAN) and O-PAN/ZIF-67 nanofiber-based SPME coatings by wrapping an electrospinning membrane on the stainless-steel wire, following with thermal oxidation at 300 °C. The shrinkage of membrane during thermal treatment resulted in the nanofibers being securely affixed to the stainless-steel wire, thereby creating a robust nanofiber-based SPME fiber.
