This study explored the use of algae to supply oxygen in situ as an alternative to mechanical aeration for anaerobic effluent treatment in a photo-sequencing batch biofilm reactor (PSBBR). By establishing alternating aerobic (dissolved oxygen (DO) > 2 mg /L)/anoxic conditions (<0.5 mg-DO/L) through a 6-h off/6-h on biogas sparging cycle and continuous illumination (1500-3000 lux), the PSBBR achieved a significant ammonia removal rate of 15-25 mg N Ld.

Super-selective renal artery embolization (SRAE) for iatrogenic and traumatic renal hemorrhage.

NUMB facilitates autophagy initiation through targeting SCF complex.

Given the critical role of SCF E3 ligases in autophagy by modulating the protein stability of various autophagic components, the activity of SCF should be tightly controlled to maintain the autophagic flux. We here showed that Numb, a multifunctional adaptor protein, increased the protein abundance of DEPTOR, which is an inhibitor of mTORC1, leading to increased autophagy flux. In vitro ubiquitination assay demonstrated that Numb inhibited SCF mediated ubiquitination of DEPTOR.

Comparison of Anticoagulation Regimens Following Stent Placement for Nonthrombotic Lower Extremity Venous Disease.

Purpose: To determine whether subtherapeutic anticoagulation regimens are noninferior to therapeutic anticoagulation regimens following stent placement for nonthrombotic lower extremity venous disease.

Materials And Methods: Fifty-one consecutive patients (88% women; mean age, 44 years) who underwent stent placement for nonthrombotic lower extremity venous disease between 2002 and 2016 were retrospectively identified. The patients were divided into 2 cohorts: those who received prophylactic enoxaparin or no anticoagulation (subtherapeutic) after the procedure and those who received therapeutic doses of anticoagulation with enoxaparin, warfarin, and/or rivaroxaban (therapeutic) after the procedure.

Establishment of a large animal model for research on transbronchial arterial intervention for lung cancer.

Purpose: We aimed to evaluate whether bronchial artery can supply a percutaneously inoculated canine transmissible venereal tumor (CTVT) in a lung tumor model.

Methods: Fresh CTVT tissue blocks were percutaneously inoculated into unilateral or bilateral lungs of six immunosuppressed dogs at the mid zone of the middle or lower lobe. Tumor growth was monitored by computed tomography (CT).

The Effect of Passive Smoking on Early Clinical Outcomes After Total Knee Arthroplasty Among Female Patients.

Purpose: The aim of this study was to assess whether passive smoking affects clinical outcomes among female patients with knee osteoarthritis after being treated with total knee arthroplasty (TKA).

Methods: The study prospectively enrolled 216 female patients who did not smoke and those patients were classified into three groups in terms of the severity of exposure to environmental tobacco smoke. A three-month follow-up was conducted to assess the physical and mental outcomes between the three groups.

Comparison of super-mini versus mini percutaneous nephrolithotomy for the treatment of upper urinary tract stones in children: a single centre experience.

Purpose: The efficacy and safety of super-mini percutaneous nephrolithotomy (SMP, 14 Fr) was compared with mini percutaneous nephrolithotomy (MPCNL, 16 Fr) for the treatment of upper urinary tract stones in children (< 14 years old).

Methods: Clinical data of 133 paediatric patients with upper urinary tract stones treated with SMP or MPCNL between May 2012 and May 2019 were retrospectively analysed. The patients were divided into the SMP and MPCNL groups.

Personality traits predict regression of pelvic girdle pain after pregnancy: a longitudinal follow-up study.

Background: Pelvic girdle pain (PGP) is a multifactorial condition with a partly unknown etiology. This condition can be mentally and physically compromising both during and after pregnancy. To provide all-around preventive measures to improve the recovery from PGP, it is a necessity for obstetricians and orthopaedists to develop predictive studies about the worse prognosis for this condition.

RNA polymerase II (Pol II) generally pauses at certain positions along gene bodies, thereby interrupting the transcription elongation process, which is often coupled with various important biological functions, such as precursor mRNA splicing and gene expression regulation. Characterizing the transcriptional elongation dynamics can thus help us understand many essential biological processes in eukaryotic cells. However, experimentally measuring Pol II elongation rates is generally time and resource consuming.
