Objectives: The experimental Optimized Pitch and Language (OPAL) strategy enhances coding of fundamental frequency (F0) information in the temporal envelope of electrical signals delivered to channels of a cochlear implant (CI). Previous studies with OPAL have explored performance on speech and lexical tone perception in Mandarin- and English-speaking CI recipients. However, it was not clear which cues to lexical tone (primary and/or secondary) were used by the Mandarin CI listeners.

Purpose: The aim of this study is to evaluate whether Mandarin-speaking children with cochlear implants (CIs) demonstrated early lexical composition similar to their hearing peers who were at the same vocabulary level and the extent to which children with CIs were sensitive to linguistic and conceptual properties when developing early lexicon.
Method: Participants were 77 Mandarin-speaking children with CIs who received CIs before 30 months of age. Their expressive vocabulary was documented using the Infant Checklist of the Early Vocabulary Inventory for Mandarin Chinese 9 or 12 months after CI activation.
Effects of ball milling (BM) on the structure and physicochemical properties of three types of citrus fibers were investigated. With the extension of the grinding time, the particle size of citrus fibers significantly decreased. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) showed that the three citrus fibers had similar chemical groups, and more -OH and phenolic acid groups were exposed after BM, and pectin and lignin were not degraded.

In this study, frequency change detection and temporal gap detection were used to investigate the frequency resolution and time resolution of CI users, respectively. Psychophysical and neurophysiological methods were used to simultaneously investigate the effects of frequency and time resolution on speech perception in post-lingual cochlear implant (CI) users.

Method: Participants included 23 children with simultaneous bilateral CIs, 23 children with bimodal stimulation, and 15 children with unilateral CIs. They all received CIs before 30 months of age.
Rationale: Hemophagocytic syndrome (HPS) is associated with a high mortality rate, and Epstein-Barr virus infection and hematological malignancies, especially T/natural killer cell lymphomas, are the most common causes; however, due to the complexity of clinical manifestations, the diagnosis is usually delayed. There are few reports of lymphoma-associated HPS (LAPS) in combination with bone marrow necrosis, and there is still no standard treatment for LAPS.
Patient Concerns: A 64-year-old man developed a fever, mild jaundice, fatigue, and bone pain.
The lambda phage Red proteins Redα/Redβ/Redγ and Rac prophage RecE/RecT proteins are powerful tools for precise and efficient genetic manipulation but have been limited to only a few prokaryotes. Here, we report the development and application of a new recombineering system for Burkholderia glumae and Burkholderia plantarii based on three Rac bacteriophage RecET-like operons, RecEThe , RecETh and RecETh1h2e , which were obtained from three different Burkholderia species. Recombineering experiments indicated that RecETh and RecETh1h2e showed higher recombination efficiency compared to RecEThe in Burkholderia glumae PG1.

Two hundred and five father-mother dyads of preschoolers (initial = 3.73 years, 50% boys) completed measures of children's effortful control, externalizing behaviors, and parental corporal punishment at three time points with 1-year intervals in between.

However, it is not fully understood if this inhibition occurs in resuscitation of hemorrhagic shock (HS). This study examines effects of pyruvate Ringer solution (PR) in this respect in rats.
