Characterizing anisotropy remains challenging in rock mechanics. Particularly, the strengths and failure patterns of layered shales under shear load are significantly anisotropic mainly because of the bedding planes. Meanwhile, understanding the creation and propagation of shear fractures is critical for drilling, mining, tunnelling, exploitation of shale gas, etc.

Locked-in stress refers to internal stress present within rock formations that can influence the failure process of rocks under specific conditions. A simplified mechanical model is applied, drawing on elasticity and the hypothesis of locked-in stress, to explore the influence of locked-in stress on the mechanical properties of loaded rocks. An analytical solution is obtained for the stress distribution in a failure model of rocks that include locked-in stress.

Meanwhile, some Zingiberaceae plants are important horticultural flowers because they are green all year round and have special aromas. To conduct an extensive investigation of the resources of Zingiberaceae plants, the volatile compounds of ten species of Zingiberaceae were extracted and analyzed by GC-MS, including var.

The real morphology and internal mesoscopic structure of a whole tooth are implemented into the numerical simulations through computerized tomography scanning, digital image processing, and 3D matrix mapping. The failure process of the whole tooth subject to compressions including crack initiation, crack propagation, and final failure pattern is reproduced using 3D realistic failure process analysis (RFPA3D) method.

The present study has expanded on those studies, and was not merely limited to studying balance, but also encompassed walking and self-care abilities of the patients; furthermore, the association among balance and walking and self-care abilities was also explored.A total of 40 stroke patients were randomly and equally divided into 2 groups: the control group (n = 20) and the treatment group (n = 20).

Objective: To explore the therapeutic schemes for refractory ascites of advanced schistosomiasis.
Methods: The advanced schistosomiasis patients with refractory ascites were randomly divided into 4 groups: a conventional group, high-dose albumin group, high-dose diuretic group, and comprehensive group, and the course of the treatment was 4 weeks. The abdominal circumference, urine volume, and weight changes were observed daily, and B-ultrasound, liver function, and renal function were performed weekly.
