Article Synopsis
  • - Colorectal cancer (CRC) progresses through stages from normal cells to adenomas and then to invasive cancer, involving various molecular changes, including extrachromosomal circular DNAs (ecDNAs), although their exact roles in CRC are not fully understood.
  • - Researchers used Circle-Sequencing and whole transcriptomic sequencing to analyze circular DNAs and transcriptomes in healthy individuals and patients with adenomas and CRC, revealing that specific circular DNAs influence oncogene expression and are linked to immune response and cell cycle pathways.
  • - Among the findings, chr8 showed significant up-regulation during CRC progression and was associated with poor prognosis in a separate cohort, suggesting it could serve as a valuable biomarker and potential therapeutic target for CRC treatment

Emerging evidence suggests that proline metabolism is important for regulating the survival and death of different types of cancer cells. Proline dehydrogenase (PRODH), an enzyme catalyzing proline catabolism, and the degradation products of proline by PRODH, such as ATP and ROS, are known to play critical roles in cancer progression. Notably, the role of PRODH in cancer is still complicated and unclear, and primarily depends on the cancer type and tumor microenvironment.

Recently, the discovery of optical spatiotemporal (ST) vortex beams with transverse orbital angular momentum (OAM) has attracted increasing attention and is expected to extend the research scope and open new opportunities for practical applications of OAM states. The ST vortex beams are also applicable to other physical fields that involve wave phenomena, and here we develop the ST vortex concept in the field of acoustics and report the generation of Bessel-type ST acoustic vortex beams. The ST vortex beams are fully characterized using the scalar approach for the pressure field and the vector approach for the velocity field.

The composites of expanded graphite (EG) and magnetic particles have good electromagnetic wave attenuation properties in the centimeter band, which is valuable in the field of radar wave interference. In this paper, a novel preparation method of Ni-Zn ferrite intercalated EG (NZF/EG) is provided in order to promote the insertion of Ni-Zn ferrite particles (NZF) into the interlayers of EG. The NZF/EG composite is in situ prepared via thermal treatment of Ni-Zn ferrite precursor intercalated graphite (NZFP/GICs) at 900 °C, where NZFP/GICs is obtained through chemical coprecipitation.

An acoustic vector sensor can directly detect acoustic particle velocity based on the measured temperature difference between closely spaced heated wires. For the detection of velocity in three dimensions, an integrated three-dimensional (3 D) sensor is desired, but it remains challenging in MEMS (Micro-Electro-Mechanical System) manufacturing. Here, a novel monolithic 3 D acoustic vector sensor is proposed, which is constructed using in-plane distributed wires assembled with acoustically transparent heat sink.

Despite a long history of studies, acoustic waves are generally regarded as spinless scalar waves, until recent research revealed their rich structures. Here, we report the experimental observation of skyrmion configurations in acoustic waves. We find that surface acoustic waves trapped by a designed hexagonal acoustic metasurface give rise to skyrmion lattice patterns in the dynamic acoustic velocity fields (i.

Understanding unidirectional and topological wave phenomena requires the unveiling of intrinsic geometry and symmetry for wave dynamics. This is essential yet challenging for the flexible control of near-field evanescent waves, highly desirable in broad practical scenarios ranging from information communication to energy radiation. However, exploitations of near-field waves are limited by a lack of fundamental understanding about inherent near-field symmetry and directional coupling at sub-wavelengths, especially for longitudinal waves.

Topological insulators (TIs) can host an insulating gapped bulk with conducting gapless boundary states in lower dimensions than the bulk. To date, various kinds of classical wave TIs with gapless symmetry-protected boundary states have been discovered, promising for the efficient confinement and robust guiding of waves. However, for airborne sound, an acoustic analogue of a three-dimensional TI has not been achieved due to its spinless nature.

Wave trapping and manipulation are at the heart of modern integrated photonics and acoustics. Grand challenges emerge on increasing the integration density and reducing the wave leakage/noises due to fabrication imperfections, especially for waveguides and cavities at subwavelength scales. The rising of robust wave dynamics based on topological mechanisms offers possible solutions.

Time-reversal invariant topological insulator is widely recognized as one of the fundamental discoveries in condensed matter physics, for which the most fascinating hallmark is perhaps a spin-based topological protection, the absence of scattering of conduction electrons with certain spins on matter surface. Recently, it has created a paradigm shift for topological insulators, from electronics to photonics, phononics and mechanics as well, bringing about not only involved new physics but also potential applications in robust wave transport. Despite the growing interests in topologically protected acoustic wave transport, T-invariant acoustic topological insulator has not yet been achieved.

Anaplastic lymphoma kinase (ALK) is a highly attractive therapeutic target for the treatment of some non-small cell lung cancer patients. This Letter describes the further SAR exploration on the novel 3-sulfonylpyrazol-4-amino pyrimidine scaffold. This work identified a compound 53 with very good in vitro/in vivo efficacies, good DMPK properties together with better hERG tolerability and it is currently being profiled for the evaluation as a potential pre-clinical candidate.

An equivalent analog circuit is designed to mimic the coupled ears of the fly Ormia ochracea for sound source localization. This coupled circuit receives two signals with tiny phase difference from a space closed two-microphone array, and produces two signals with obvious intensity difference. The response sensitivity can be adjusted through the coupled circuit parameters.

A new series of 2,4-diamino pyrimidine derivatives with a sulfone-substituted pyrazole right side-chain were discovered as potent anaplastic lymphoma kinase inhibitors. Structure-activity relationship of the left side-chain on phenyl substitutions were explored which delivered many potent ALK inhibitors. Among them, 29a showed favorable pharmacokinetic profiles in rats and dogs together with significant antitumor efficacy in EML4-ALK fusion xenograft model.
