Serum magnesium level and cardiac valve calcification in hemodialysis patients.

Introduction: Cardiac valve calcification is closely related to cardiovascular disease. The aim of this study was to investigate the magnesium level and cardiac valve calcification in hemodialysis patients.

Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted in 105 maintenance hemodialysis patients with complete follow-up data from June 2020 to May 2021 in Beijing Tsinghua Changgung Hospital, Tsinghua University.

Successful treatment of peritonitis caused by Acremonium species without catheter removal: Case report and literature review.

Introduction: It is a rare case of continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis-related peritonitis associated with Acremonium spp infection.

Case Presentation: Symptoms of Acremonium infection peritonitis are hidden and atypical, leucocytes in ascites are moderately elevated, and general bacterial culture difficulty obtains positive results. In this report, a patient with peritoneal dialysis-related peritonitis caused by Acremonium species was successfully treated without catheter removal in our hospital.

Risk factors and prognosis for coronavirus disease 2019 among 131 hemodialysis patients during the Omicron variant epidemic.

The present study evaluated the presentations and outcomes of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) among patients undergoing maintenance hemodialysis (MHD) and the impact of the Omicron BF.7 variant. Adult patients (age ≥ 18 years), who underwent MHD (dialysis vintage ≥ 3 months) at the Hemodialysis Center at Beijing Tsinghua Changgung Hospital between December 2022 and January 2023, were included based on predefined eligibility criteria.

Intra-dialytic blood pressure variability is a greater predictor of cardiovascular events in hemodialysis patients.

Background: Short-term and long-term blood pressure variability (BPV) in hemodialysis (HD) population are risk factors of cardiovascular diseases (CVD) and all-cause mortality. There is no full consensus on the best BPV metric. We compared the prognostic role of intra-dialytic and visit-to-visit BPV metrics for CVD morbidity and all-cause mortality in HD patients.

Association between brachial artery peak systolic velocity and ipsilateral radio-cephalic arteriovenous fistula maturation.

Objective: To evaluate the association between brachial artery blood velocity by color Doppler flow imaging (CDFI) and primary maturation of radio-cephalic autologous arteriovenous fistula (RC-AVF).

Methods: Clinical data from patients who underwent end-to-side cephalic-radial anastomosis were collected from December 2015 to December 2020. The anastomosis diameter (mm), blood velocity (cm/s), and brachial artery diameters (mm) 7 cm proximal to the elbow pre- and postoperation were measured by GE LOGIC-E9 ultrasound.

Application of simplified regional citrate anticoagulation in hemodialysis patients with high risk of bleeding.

Aim: To explore the safety, effectiveness, and dialysis adequacy of simplified regional citrate anticoagulation hemodialysis (SRCA-HD) in hemodialysis patients with high risk of bleeding.

Materials And Methods: From 64 hemodialysis patients, 400 cases of low blood flow (150 mL/min, dialysate flow 300 mL/min) SRCA-HD were retrospectively analyzed and subsequently referred to as the LBF-SRCA group. Then, a prospective cross-over study was performed in 24 hemodialysis patients with normal blood flow (200 mL/min, dialysate flow 500 mL/min) SRCA-HD, which was called the NBF-SRCA group.

The effects of glucose-free and glucose-containing dialysate during dialysis in MHD patients: a prospective cross-over study.

Objective: To investigate the effects of glucose-free and glucose-containing dialysates during dialysis in maintenance hemodialysis (MHD) patients by the prospective cross-over study, and detect glucose control methods in MHD patients.

Dark tea extracts: Chemical constituents and modulatory effect on gastrointestinal function.

Processing of dark tea varieties, such as Fu brick tea, Liupao tea, Qianliang tea, and Qing brick tea, includes solid-state fermentation involving microorganisms. In this study, we analyzed the major chemical constituents of dark tea extracts and evaluated their modulatory effect on the gastrointestinal function in normal mice, including the improvement of gastrointestinal transit and intestinal microbial, as well as the attenuation of intestinal microbial dysbiosis and intestinal pathological damage, and the adjustment of immune function in antibiotic-treated mice. Substantial differences in major chemical constituents, including total polyphenols, total organic acids, water extract content, 18 free amino acids, gallic acid, and six tea catechins, were observed among Fu brick tea, Qianliang tea, Qing brick tea, and Liupao tea extracts.

Effect of combining different calcium concentration dialysate on calcium balance in peritoneal dialysis patients.

Background: Calcium and phosphorus metabolic disturbance are common in dialysis patients and associated with increased morbidity and mortality. Therefore, maintaining the balance of calcium and phosphate metabolism and suitable intact parathyroid hormone (iPTH) level has become the focus of attention. We investigated the effects of different peritoneal dialysate calcium concentrations on calcium phosphate metabolism and iPTH in continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis (CAPD) patients.

[Effects of bifidobacteria on respiratory and gastrointestinal tracts in neonates receiving mechanical ventilation].

Objective: To study the effects of bifidobacterium on respiratory and gastrointestinal tracts in neonates receiving mechanical ventilation.

Methods: The eligible neonates were randomly assigned into two groups: observed (n=38) and control (n=43). The observed group was given bifidobacteria daily (one capsule per time, for 7 days) by nasal feeding from the next day after mechanical ventilation.
