In this study, the toxigenic characteristics of 14 strains of Microcystis were analyzed, and single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) and insertion/deletion (InDel) loci in microcystin synthetase (mcy) gene clusters were screened. Based on SNP and InDel loci associated with the toxigenic characteristics, primers and TaqMan or Cycling fluorescent probes were designed to develop duplex real-time fluorescent quantitative PCR (FQ-PCR) assays. After evaluating specificity and sensitivity, these assays were applied to detect the toxigenic Microcystis genotypes in a shrimp pond where Microcystis blooms occurred.

This study aims to investigate the effect of the structures of cross-linkers on the in vitro chondrogenic differentiation of bone mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs) in hyaluronic acid (HA)-based hydrogels. A series of alkene functionalized polyamidoamine (PAMAM) dendrimers were synthesized to prepare in situ forming hydrogels with varied gelation time and mechanical properties through crosslinking with thiolated hyaluronic acid (HS-HA). By varying the alkenyl groups on the dendrimers, the gelation time displayed a large range from 8 seconds to 18 hours, and the modulus of the hydrogels ranged from 36 to 183 Pa under experimental conditions. Investigation by (1)H-NMR spectroscopy revealed that the gelation time and the stiffness of the hydrogels were governed by the degree of electron deficiency of alkenyl groups on the dendrimers.

Poly(amidoamine) (PAMAM) dendrimers of different generations with carboxyl, acetyl, and hydroxyl terminal groups and a folic acid (FA)-dendrimer conjugate were separated and analyzed using reverse-phase high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). Analysis of both the individual PAMAM derivatives and the separation of mixed generations can be achieved using a linear gradient 0-50% acetonitrile (ACN) (balance water) within 40 min. We also show that PAMAMs with defined acetylation and carboxylation degrees can be analyzed using HPLC.
