Estrogen deficiency is one of the most frequent causes of osteoporosis in postmenopausal women. Under chronic inflammatory conditions caused by estrogen deficiency, activated T cells contribute to elevated levels of proinflammatory cytokines, impaired osteogenic differentiation capabilities of bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (BMMSCs), and disturbed regulatory T cell (Treg)/Th17 cell balance. However, therapeutic strategies that re-establish immune homeostasis in this disorder have not been well developed.

Chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps (CRSwNP) is a chronic sinonasal inflammatory disease with limited treatment options of corticosteroids, sinus surgery, or both. CRSwNP is frequently associated with allergic rhinitis and asthma, but the molecular mechanisms underlying CRSwNP inflammation are not completely understood. We obtained four gene expression profiles (GSE136825, GSE36830, GSE23552, and GSE72713) from four Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO), which collectively included 65 nasal polyp samples from CRSwNP patients and 54 nasal mucosal samples from healthy controls.

Cigarette smoke (CS) is an independent risk factor in development of nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) and fibrosis. Lycopene, a carotenoid naturally occurring in tomatoes, has been shown to be a protective agent against tobacco carcinogen 4-(methylnitrosamino)-1-(3-pyridyl)-1-butanone (NNK)-induced NASH. In the present study using a ferret model we investigated whether CS promotes NASH and whether dietary lycopene can inhibit CS-promoted NASH development, and if so, what potential mechanisms were involved.

As a smart wearable sensor device, the mildew of the biocompatible hydrogel limits its application. In this paper, silver nanoparticles were prepared by solid-state reduction of hydroxyethyl cellulose and compounded into a chemically cross-linked hydrogel as an antibacterial, flexible strain sensor. Because the high surface energy of silver nanoparticles can quench free radicals, we designed three initiators to synthesize hydrogels: ammonium persulfate (APS), 2,2'-Azobis(2-methylpropionitrile) (AIBN) and 2,2'-azobis(2-methylpropionamidine) dihydrochloride (AIBA).

The corrosion mechanisms for different corrosive media on the aged 7A46 aluminum alloy were systematically investigated at nanoscale level. The combination of empirical intergranular and exfoliation corrosion behavior was employed, and coupled with first-principles calculations. Results revealed that the dispersed distribution of matrix precipitates (MPs) leads to the enhancement of the corrosion resistance pre-ageing (PA) followed by double-ageing (PA-DA) alloy.

Acute lung injury is a serious form and major cause of patient death and still needs efficient therapies. The present study evidenced that co-transplantation of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) and telocytes (TCs) improved the severity of experimental lung tissue inflammation, edema, and injury, where TCs increased MSCs migration into the lung and the capacity of MSCs proliferation and movement. Of molecular mechanisms, Osteopontin-dominant networks were active in MSCs and TCs, and might play supportive and nutrimental roles in the interaction between MSCs and TCs, especially activated TCs by lipopolysaccharide.
