Background: In gastric cancer (GC) patients, malnutrition is common and has a negative impact on treatment tolerance, survival, and prognosis. The purpose of this study was to explore the relationship between prechemotherapy nutritional state and early myelosuppression in stage IV GC patients treated with first-line chemotherapy.

Methods: This retrospective study included patients with stage IV GC who received first-line chemotherapy between July 2012 and December 2021.

The nonrigid point set registration is one of the bottlenecks and has the wide applications in computer vision, pattern recognition, image fusion, video processing, and so on. In a nonrigid point set registration problem, finding the point-to-point correspondences is challengeable because of the various image degradations. In this paper, a robust method is proposed to accurately determine the correspondences by fusing the two complementary structural features, including the spatial location of a point and the local structure around it.

Article Synopsis
  • Chronic liver diseases are common in China, with a study in Jilin revealing a 17.53% prevalence of elevated alanine aminotransferase (ALT) levels, primarily due to non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and metabolic syndrome.
  • The study included 4,072 adults aged 18-79, showing that higher income, age, and certain health metrics like body mass index and fasting plasma glucose are significant risk factors for ALT elevation, particularly among female peasants and small businessmen.
  • Unlike metabolic disorders, elevated ALT levels related to hepatitis B or C infections were linked to gender, occupation, and age, highlighting the need for targeted health interventions in these demographics.

Background: Serum biochemical liver tests (LTs) (alanine aminotransferase, aspartate aminotransferase, and gamma glutamyltransferase) and platelet counts are often used to screen for chronic liver disease. We determined the prevalence and etiologies of abnormal LTs in an adult population in Jilin, China.

Methods: A total of 3791 individuals between the ages of 18 and 79 years were interviewed and then underwent ultrasonography and blood tests.

Objective: To investigate the characteristics of HCV genotypes of Han and Korean in Yanbian area of Jilin Province.

Methods: The HCV RNA load and genotypes of the 119 chronic hepatitis C patients in Yanbian area of Jilin Province were determined by real-time PCR and LiPA. The differences of the HCV genotypes in Han and Korean cases, in severity of the diseases, in HCV-RNA load, and in the relation with type 2 diabetes mellitus were analyzed.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the immune response in cirrhosis caused by hepatitis B virus (HBV) and hepatitis C virus (HCV), focusing on lymphocyte subsets and cytokine levels.
  • It finds that cirrhotic patients exhibit a lower proportion of specific immune cells (like CD8+ T cells and NK cells) and an increase in others (like CD4+ T cells and Treg cells) compared to healthy individuals.
  • Additionally, while Th2 cytokine IL-6 levels are elevated in both HBV and HCV cirrhosis, only HBV patients show an increase in the Th1 cytokine IFN-gamma, indicating a shared immune deficiency regardless of the virus type.
