  • Hepatitis is linked to various comorbidities, particularly metabolic disorders, which are often seen in patients.
  • The study aimed to explore how conditions like type 2 diabetes, hyperlipidemia, and hypertension affect the treatment outcomes of chronic hepatitis B and C.
  • Results showed a causal relationship between these comorbidities and hepatitis progression, indicating that these conditions can worsen hepatitis severity, but further research is needed to understand the underlying mechanisms.

Article Synopsis
  • Emerging anti-HER2 drugs have improved outcomes for patients with HER2-positive breast cancer, but their effectiveness for those with low HER2 expression remains unclear.
  • The DESTINY-Breast04 and RC48 trials demonstrate that antibody-drug conjugates can benefit low HER2-expressing patients, suggesting a need to reevaluate classification of HER2 tumors.
  • A study of 4,598 patients revealed that HER2-low tumors were associated with older diagnosis age and worse disease-free survival compared to HER2-0 tumors, highlighting notable clinical differences in early-stage breast cancer among low HER2 expression levels.

Background: The aim of this study was to determine the differences in the characteristics of pneumonia (MPP) in children with and without asthma and in children with asthma with and without inhaled corticosteroid (ICS) therapy in order to determine the risk factors for asthma exacerbation and the effect of regular ICS therapy on children with asthma with MPP.

Materials And Methods: Children with MPP were divided into two groups according to whether they had a history of asthma. Children with asthma were further divided into an ICS therapy group and a group without ICS therapy.

Based on the construction of ecological network in Tianjin in 2000, 2010 and 2020, we evaluated the structural evolution of Tianjin ecological network from the multi-dimensional perspective of source-corridor-node-whole, using complex network evaluation index and landscape pattern index integrated with the stability, uniformity and connectivity indices. The results showed that from 2000 to 2020, the ecological source areas in Tianjin significantly shrank and degraded, be uneven in spatial distribution. Ecological corridors became sparse.

Soil salinity is a growing problem in world production agriculture. Continued improvement in crop salt tolerance will require the implementation of innovative breeding strategies such as marker-assisted selection (MAS) and genomic selection (GS). Genetic analyses for yield and vigor traits under salt stress in alfalfa breeding populations with three different phenotypic datasets was assessed.

Many agricultural lands in the western United States consist of soil with high concentrations of salt, which is detrimental to alfalfa ( L.) growth and production, especially in the region where water resource is limited. Developing alfalfa varieties with salt tolerance is imperative for sustainable production under increasing soil salinity.

Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder C subtype (ADHD-C) is associated with social rejection and peer difficulties. The present study evaluates the comparative efficacy of group executive function training (GEFT) with social skills training (SST) in children with ADHD-C in China. A randomized, controlled treatment outcome study that comprised of 52 boys and 29 girls (age range: 9-12years old) was conducted.

Breast cancer (BC) is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in females globally and is more aggressive at later stages. Chromosome region maintenance 1 (CRM1) is involved in the nuclear export of proteins and RNAs and has been associated with a number of malignancies. However, the clinicopathological significance of its expression in BC remains to be elucidated therefore this was investigated in the present study.

Article Synopsis
  • Triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) is highly aggressive, and this study focuses on the role of miR-212-5p, which is found to be downregulated in TNBC tissue samples.
  • The research utilized various assays to demonstrate that increased miR-212-5p levels lead to decreased invasiveness in TNBC cells and a better prognosis, along with changes in cell morphology.
  • MiR-212-5p exerts its effects by targeting and downregulating the Prrx2 gene, which is linked to the epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) process, thereby inhibiting cancer progression and spread.

Background/aims: Epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) is recognized as a crucial mechanism in breast cancer progression and metastasis. Paired-related homeobox 2 (Prrx2) has been identified as a new EMT inducer in cancer, but the underlying mechanisms are still poorly understood.

Methods: The expression of Prrx2 was assessed by immunohistochemistry in breast cancer tissues to evaluate the clinicopathological significance of Prrx2, as well as the correlation between Prrx2 and EMT.

Salinity tolerance is highly desirable to sustain alfalfa production in marginal lands that have been rendered saline. In this study, we used a diverse panel of 198 alfalfa accessions for mapping loci associated with plant growth and forage production under salt stress using genome-wide association studies (GWAS). The plants were genotyped using genotyping-by-sequencing (GBS).

Verticillium wilt (VW) of alfalfa is a soilborne disease causing severe yield loss in alfalfa. To identify molecular markers associated with VW resistance, we used an integrated framework of genome-wide association study (GWAS) with high-throughput genotyping by sequencing (GBS) to identify loci associated with VW resistance in an F1 full-sib alfalfa population. Phenotyping was performed using manual inoculation of the pathogen to cloned plants of each individual and disease severity was scored using a standard scale.

Aim: To transfect the cat corneal endothelial cells (CECs) with recombinant human β-nerve growth factor gene adeno-associated virus (AAV-β-NGF) and to observe the effect of the expressed β-NGF protein on the proliferation activity of cat CECs.

Methods: The endothelium of cat cornea was torn under the microscope and rapidly cultivated in Dulbecco's modified Eagle's medium (DMEM) to form single layer CECs and the passage 2 endothelial cells were used in this experiment. The recombinant human AAV-β-NGF was constructed.

Background: Heat shock protein 70 (HSP70) is known to be downstream of human epidermal growth factor receptor-2 (ERBB2), but little is known regarding the relationship between HSP70 and drug resistance mediated by ERBB2 in breast cancer.

Materials And Methods: After infecting breast cancer cells with lentivirus-mediated Lenti-ShHSP70 and Lenti-ShERBB2, we examined the expression of HSP70 and ERBB2 by real-time polymerase chain reaction and western blotting.

Results: Compared to the control groups, mRNA expression of HSP70 was decreased in lentivirus-infected, and western blotting indicated a concordant reduction of HSP70 protein.

Triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) is a highly aggressive breast cancer subtype that lacks effective targeted therapies. The epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EMT) is a key contributor in the metastatic process. In this study, we found that miR-655 was down-regulated in TNBC, and its expression levels were associated with molecular-based classification and lymph node metastasis in breast cancer.

As a negative modulator of the canonical Wnt signaling pathway, Naked1 (NKD1) is widely expressed in many normal tissues. However, the expression and clinicopathological significance of NKD1 in patients with breast cancer is still unclear. The aim of this study was to evaluate NKD1 expression in breast cancer and to investigate the question of whether reduced expression of NKD1 may have any pathological significance in breast cancer development or progression.

Enterovirus 71 (EV71) has caused many outbreaks of diseases among children worldwide since it was first reported in 1974, but its mechanism of pathogenesis remains unclear. This study was designed to investigate the possible association of the IL-4 -589C/T gene polymorphism with severity of EV71 infection in Chinese children. The IL-4 -589C/T gene polymorphism was detected in EV71-infected subjects (n = 185), including those with mild cases (n = 102) and severe cases (n = 83) as well as healthy controls (n = 234), using an improved multiplex ligation detection reaction (iMLDR) technique.
