Background: Adequate evaluation of degrees of liver cirrhosis is essential in surgical treatment of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) patients. The impact of the degrees of cirrhosis on prediction of post-hepatectomy liver failure (PHLF) remains poorly defined. This study aimed to construct and validate a combined pre- and intra-operative nomogram based on the degrees of cirrhosis in predicting PHLF in HCC patients using prospective multi-center's data.

Hepatic progenitor cells (HPCs) hold tremendous potential for liver regeneration, but their well-known limitation of proliferation hampers their broader use. There is evidence that laminin is required for the proliferation of HPCs, but the laminin isoform that plays the dominant role and the key intracellular downstream targets that mediate the regulation of HPC proliferation have yet to be determined. Here we showed that p53 expression increased gradually and reached maximal levels around 8 days when laminin α4, α5, β2, β1, and γ1 subunit levels also reached a maximum during HPC activation and expansion.

Vitamin E incorporation into highly cross-linked polyethylene (HXLPE) has been introduced to improve wear resistance, and vitamin E incorporated HXLPE (VEPE) has been used in total hip arthroplasty. The aim of this meta-analysis was to investigate the wear properties of VEPE in clinical practice by synthesizing the data provided in randomized clinical trials. The effects on implant stability, functional outcomes and revision rate of VEPE were also compared with those of HXPLE or ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE).

Tumor metastasis is one of the key events leading to tumor relapse and poor prognosis. Nowadays, increasing evidences demonstrated that ZEB1 was implicated in human carcinogenesis. However, involvement of ZEB1 deregulation in tumorigenesis in Asian patients with breast carcinoma remains elusive.
