Article Synopsis
  • The study looked at how high blood pressure, especially H-type hypertension, affects the carotid artery's structure and function.
  • Researchers compared two groups of people with hypertension and one healthy group to see differences in their carotid arteries.
  • Results showed that people with H-type hypertension had more significant changes in their carotid arteries compared to those with simple hypertension and healthy individuals.

The mesh-type models are superior to voxel models in cellular dose assessment coupled with Monte Carlo codes. The aim of this study was to expand the micron-scale mesh-type models based on the fluorescence tomography of real human cells, and to investigate the feasibility of these models in the application of various irradiation scenarios and Monte Carlo codes. Six different human cell lines, including pulmonary epithelial BEAS-2B, embryonic kidney 293T, hepatocyte L-02, B-lymphoblastoid HMy2.

Purpose: The proximity function is an important index in microdosimetry for describing the spatial distribution of energy, which is closely related to the biological effects of organs or tissues in the target area. In this work, the impact of parameters, such as physic models, cut-off energy, and initial energy, on the proximity function are quantitated and compared.

Methods: According to the track structure (TS) and condensed history (CH) low-energy electromagnetic models, this paper chooses a variety of Monte Carlo (Monte Carlo, MC) codes (Geant4-DNA, PHITS, and Penelope) to simulate the track structure of low-energy electrons in liquid water and evaluates the influence of the electron initial energy, cut-off energy, energy spectrum, and physical model factors on the differential proximity function.

Aeromonas hydrophila, a bacterium that is widespread in aquatic environments, is responsible for causing haemorrhagic disease in both aquatic and terrestrial species. With the purpose of developing a live vaccine, herein we have investigated nine strains of A. hydrophila (Ah-01 to Ah-09) isolated from diseased fish.

Color is an important quality attribute of fungi, and a useful marker for classification, genetic, and molecular research. However, there is much debate over which enzymes play key regulatory roles in pigment synthesis pathways among different fungi and even within the same species. Auricularia cornea is the most widely cultivated mushroom in the genus Auricularia; 1.

Article Synopsis
  • Urachal remnant with heterotopic sinus is a rare congenital condition often accompanied by other anomalies, highlighted by a case of a 32-year-old male with associated symptoms.
  • A 4 cm cystic mass was identified through imaging, which was found to be urachal tissue and connected to a sinus near the urethral orifice, but not to the bladder itself.
  • The patient successfully underwent laparoscopic surgery to remove the mass, experienced no complications, and has since been monitored in follow-up visits.

The optimal conditions for melanin extraction from Auricularia auricula-judae (Hei 29) fruiting bodies was determined on the basis of the extract yield of melanin, calculated by using a single-factor experiment and response surface methodology. Its antioxidant activities were also studied in vitro. Various optimal process conditions for melanin extraction were determined by using Design-Expert software: incubation temperature, 69.

Florfenicol, a synthetic drug with chemical structure and spectrum of antibacterial activity similar to chloramphenicol, has been shown to be effective against a number of bacterial pathogens. However, there are increasing signs of florfenicol-resistant bacteria due to the misuse and overuse of florfenicol in aquaculture. In the present study, florfenicol had a higher bactericidal efficacy in the presence of myo-inositol, which may be due to the ability of myo-inositol to increase susceptibility of Aeromonas hydrophila to florfenicol.

The fruiting body pattern is an important agronomic trait of the edible fungus , and an important breeding target. There are two types of fruiting body pattern: the cluster type and the chrysanthemum type. We identified the fruiting body pattern of 26 test strains, and then constructed two different near-isogenic pools.

Auricularia auricula-judae is a traditional edible fungus that is cultivated widely in China. In this study, a genetic linkage map for A. auricula-judae was constructed using a mapping population consisting of 138 monokaryons derived from a hybrid strain (A119-5).

Auricularia auricula-judae is an edible and medicinal fungus ranking fourth in production among the edible fungi cultivated worldwide. White villous disease is rampant in Northeast China; it infects the fruiting bodies of A. auricula-judae by forming a white mycelial layer on its ventral side.

Objective: The present study aimed at investigating whether non-surgical periodontal treatment can reduce the Haemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) % level in type 2 diabetic patients.

Methods: A search of the literature on English publications was performed in Cochrane Central, Medline, ISI Web of Knowledge and EMBASE (until 06 February 2014). An RCT was selected if the subject was type 2 diabetic patients diagnosed with chronic periodontitis, and compared HbA1c% change after non-surgical periodontal treatment alone for at least three months of the study duration.

Female Exopalaemon carinicauda at ovarian maturation stage II rearing by artificial propagation in the laboratory were chosen as test material. The shrimps were gradually acclimated to the experimental salinity levels of 2, 5, 10, 15, 20, 25 and 30 to determine the effects of salinity on spawning, embryonic development and larval growth of E. carinicauda.

The insulin receptor (IR) gene plays an important role in regulating cell growth, differentiation and development. In the present study, DNA sequences of insulin receptor genes, IRa and IRb, were amplified and sequenced from 37 representative species of the Cyprinidae and from five outgroup species from non-cyprinid Cypriniformes. Based on coding sequences (CDS) of tyrosine kinase regions of IRa and IRb, molecular evolution and phylogenetic relationships were analyzed to better understand the characteristics of IR gene divergence in the family Cyprinidae.

The family Cyprinidae is widely distributed in East Asia, and has the important phylogenetic significance in the fish evolution. In this study, the 5' end partial sequences (containing exon 1, exon 2 and indel 1) of S6K1 gene were obtained from 30 representative species in Cyprinidae and outgroup using PCR amplification and sequencing. The phylogenetic relationships of Cyprinidae were reconstructed with neighbor joining (NJ), maximum parsimony (MP), maximum likelihood (ML), and Bayesian methods.

The adsorption characteristics and kinetics of 2,4-Dichlorophenol (2,4-DCP) by biological activated carbon (BAC) was studied through contrast experiments with conventional activated sludge alone or quartz as the carrier. The advantage and disadvantage of removing 2,4-DCP using BAC and the mechanism of this process were investigated. The results show that the method of removing 2,4-DCP by BAC is applicable in practices, and the process of BAC demonstrates high removal rate than the process of suspended activated sludge and biofilm with quartz as the carrier.
