The RNA N-adenosine methylation, resulting in N-methyl adenosine (m6A), is one of the most important post-transcriptional modification events in the eukaryotic transcriptome, which is dynamically regulated by methyltransferases (writers), recognition proteins (readers) and demethylases (erasers). Human has five m6A readers namely YTHDC1, YTHDC2, YTHDF1, YTHDF2 and YTHDF3 that specifically recognize and bind to the methylated m6A residue of RNA through their YT521-B homology (YTH) domains, which have been involved in the pathogenesis of diabetes mellitus and its diverse complications such as diabetic nephropathy. Instead of the native N-methylation, we herein attempted to explore the molecular effect of various non-native N-substitutions on adenosine (A) binding behavior to YTH domains.

Triple negative breast cancer (TNBC) seriously endangers women's life and health due to its high invasion and mortality. Reactive oxygen species (ROS) mediated tumor cells apoptosis is considered an effective anticancer approach. Herein, we designed a natural active triple helix β-Glucan (BFP) wrapped single walled carbon nanotubes (SWNTs)-loaded doxorubicin (DOX) self-assembly (BSD) via generating excess ROS to induce oxidative stress damage for TNBC therapy.

The incidence of early-onset colorectal cancer (eoCRC) is rising, and its pathogenesis is not completely understood. We hypothesized that machine learning utilizing paired tissue microbiome and plasma metabolome features could uncover distinct host-microbiome associations between eoCRC and average-onset CRC (aoCRC). Individuals with stages I-IV CRC (n = 64) were categorized as eoCRC (age ≤ 50, n = 20) or aoCRC (age ≥ 60, n = 44).

Since the first report on single-layer MoS based transistor, rapid progress has been achieved in two-dimensional (2D) material-based atomically thin electronics, providing an alternative approach to solve the bottleneck in silicon device miniaturization. In this scenario, reliable contact between the metal electrodes and the subnanometer-thick 2D materials becomes crucial in determining the device performance. Here, utilizing the quasi-van der Waals (vdW) epitaxy of metals on fluorophlogopite mica, we demonstrate an all-stacking method for the fabrication of 2D devices with high-quality vdW contacts by mechanically transferring pre-deposited metal electrodes.

The hybridizations of two-dimensional (2D) metallic materials with semiconducting transition metal oxides (TMOs) register attractive heterojunctions, which can find various applications in photostimulated circumstances. In this work, we developed an ambient-pressure chemical vapor deposition method to directly grow T-VS on atomically smooth rutile TiO single crystals with different terminations and thus successfully constructed a heterojunction model of VS/TiO with a well-defined clean interface. Detailed measurements with Kelvin probe force microscopy revealed the facet-dependent charge transfer occurring at the VS/TiO interfaces, seeing variations not only in the amount and direction of the transferred electrons but also in the photoinduced surface potential changes and the dynamics of photogenerated charge carriers under ultraviolet irradiation.

Introduction: Chronic kidney disease-mineral and bone disorder (CKD-MBD) is characterized by bone abnormalities, vascular calcification, and some other complications. Although there are diagnostic criteria for CKD-MBD, in situations when conducting target feature examining are unavailable, there is a need to investigate and discover alternative biochemical criteria that are easy to obtain. Moreover, studying the correlations between the newly discovered biomarkers and the existing ones may provide insights into the underlying molecular mechanisms of CKD-MBD.

Background: The unexplained rise of young-onset CRC (yoCRC, age <50 years) is of concern. Evidence suggests that microbial dysbiosis may be a contributing factor, but the tumor microbial profile of yoCRC in comparison to average-onset CRC (aoCRC, age >60) has not been fully investigated.

Methods: 16S rRNA amplicon sequencing was performed in tumor and paired adjacent non-malignant fresh frozen tissue specimens prospectively collected from 136 yoCRC and 140 aoCRC patients.

In recent years, PbO electrodes have received widespread attention due to their high oxygen evolution reaction (OER) activity. However, due to the brittle nature of the plating layer, it is easy to cause the active layer to fall off. Pb will leach out with the electrochemical process causing secondary pollution.

Interfacial polarons determine the distribution of free charges at the interface and thus play important roles in manipulating the physicochemical properties of hybridized polaronic materials. In this work, we investigated the electronic structures at the atomically flat interface of the single-layer MoS (SL-MoS) on the rutile TiO surface using high-resolution angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy. Our experiments directly visualized both the valence band maximum and the conduction band minimum (CBM) of SL-MoS at the K point, which clearly defines a direct bandgap of ∼2.

The dispersity of metal particles over oxide surfaces is generally critical for the applications of the metal/oxide hybridized systems. In this work, we have experimentally investigated the hydration effect of preadsorbed water species over the Cu and Pd particles deposited on the ZnO(10-10) surface. Using scanning tunneling microscopy (STM), we clearly saw that both Cu and Pd grow as three-dimensional particles on the clean ZnO(10-10) surface but disperse into single atoms and few-atom clusters on the water-covered surfaces.

The adsorption and organization state of water on the metal oxide surface is of critical importance for wide fields where interface chemistry dominates. On the technically important ZnO(10-10) surface, we found water assembles into an one-dimensional (1D) chain structure at submonolayer coverage instead of the well-known half-dissociated two-dimensional (2D) island. With a combination of high resolution scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) and density functional theory (DFT) calculations, we clearly distinguished the single and double water chains, which are composed of dissociated monomers and half-dissociated dimers, respectively.

Distorting linear polyaromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) out of planarity affects their physical properties and breaks their symmetry to induce inherent chirality. However, the chirality cannot be achieved in large distorted PAHs-based macrocycles due to a low racemization barrier for isomerization. Herein, we report the precise synthesis and tuning size-dependent (chir)optical properties of a new class of chiral PAHs-containing conjugated macrocycles (cyclo[n]paraphenylene-2,6-anthrylene, [n]CPPAn ; n=6-8).

Skin disease is one of the most common diseases in the world. Deep learning-based methods have achieved excellent skin lesion recognition performance, most of which are based on only dermoscopy images. In recent works that use multi-modality data (patient's meta-data, clinical images, and dermoscopy images), the methods adopt a one-stage fusion approach and only optimize the information fusion at the feature level.
