Tumor growth and progression involve coordinated regulation by internal, microenvironmental, and systemic signals and often display conspicuous sexual dimorphism. The mechanisms governing the integration and coordination of these signals, along with their sex-based differences, remain largely unknown. Using a tumor model originating from nonreproductive tissue, we show that female-biased tumor growth involves multifaceted communications among tumor cells, hemocytes, and neuroendocrine insulin-producing cells (IPCs).

Introduction: T-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (T-ALL) is a malignant hematological disease with limited targeted therapy options. Overexpression of B-cell lymphoma/leukemia 11B is frequently observed in T-ALL and contributes to leukemogenesis. Knockdown of BCL11B inhibits T-ALL cell proliferation and induces apoptosis, making it a potential therapeutic target.

Plants in the Crassulaceae family are rich in flavonoids, which may contribute to their high antioxidant activity and strong tolerance to abiotic stresses. Kalanchoe spp. are known to have high antioxidant activity, but the main components responsible for this activity and the mechanisms that control antioxidant accumulation in these plants are unknown.

Working stress is an important indicator reflecting the health status of structures. Passive-monitoring technology using the piezoelectric effect can effectively monitor the dynamic stress of structures. However, under static loads, the charge generated by the piezoelectric devices can only be preserved when the external circuit impedance is infinitely large, which means passive-monitoring techniques are unable to monitor static and quasi-static stress caused by slow-changing actions.

  • BCR-ABL+ leukemia faces significant challenges like drug resistance and the survival of leukemic stem cells (LSCs), despite progress with tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs).
  • In this study, Disulfiram (DSF), an FDA-approved drug for alcohol dependence, is shown to induce ferroptosis in resistant BCR-ABL+ cells and LSCs when combined with TKIs, leading to enhanced effectiveness in treatment.
  • The research highlights DSF's mechanisms, such as degrading GPX4, increasing lipid peroxidation, and modulating iron metabolism, which collectively help overcome drug resistance and target leukemic cells more effectively.

The study investigates the sources of metals in urban road dusts using elemental concentration and Pb isotopic ratios. The elemental concentrations are also utilized to determine the present heavy metal emissions as well as projected emissions till 2045. Bayesian mixing model for source apportionment highlights the significant contributions of both exhaust and non-exhaust sources to the metal-enriched urban road dusts, with each contributing approximately 40 %.

6:2 Chlorinated polyfluorinated ether sulfonate, commonly known as F-53B, is widely used as a mist suppressant in various industries and is frequently detected in the environment. Despite its prevalent presence, the adverse effects of F-53B are not well understood and require future investigation. This study utilized zebrafish embryos and adults to examine the toxic effects of F-53B.

In the current electromechanical model of cantilevered piezoelectric energy harvesters, the assumption of uniform electric field strength within the piezoelectric layer is commonly made. This uniform electric field assumption seems reasonable since the piezoelectric layer looks like a parallel-plate capacitor. However, for a piezoelectric bender, the strain distribution along the thickness direction is not uniform, which means the internal electric field generated by the spontaneous polarization cannot be uniform.

  • - The study investigated the traits of delaminated rotator cuff tears (RCTs) and assessed the effectiveness of a modified suture bridge repair technique for these types of tears, comparing it with traditional methods for nondelaminated tears.
  • - It retrospectively reviewed 172 patients with full-thickness RCTs who had at least a 2-year follow-up, revealing that delaminated tears were more common in larger tears, and both repair techniques significantly improved patient outcomes.
  • - The results showed similar retear rates and clinical scores between the delaminated and nondelaminated groups post-surgery, indicating that the modified suture bridge technique is just as effective for delaminated RCTs as conventional methods for nond

Incorporating passive heating structures into personal thermal management technologies could effectively mitigate the escalating energy crisis. However, current passive heating materials struggle to balance thickness and insulating capability, resulting in compromised comfort, space efficiency, and limited thermoregulatory performance. Here, a dual air-gelation strategy, is developed to directly synthesize ultrathin and self-sustainable heating metafabric with 3D dual-network structure during electrospinning.

Developing biodegradable polyurethane (PU) materials as an alternative to non-degradable petroleum-based PU is a crucial and challenging task. This study utilized lactide as the starting material to synthesize polylactide polyols (PLA-OH). PLA-based polyurethanes (PLA-PUs) were successfully synthesized by introducing PLA-OH into the PU molecular chain.

MicroRNAs (miRNAs) have been demonstrated to act as crucial modulators with considerable impacts on the immune system. Cottonseed meal is often used as a protein source in aqua feed, cottonseed meal contains gossypol, which is harmful to animals. However, there is a lack of research on the role of miRNAs in fish exposed to gossypol stress.

  • Emerging evidence shows a link between gut microbiota and bone health, particularly bone mineral density (BMD) in postmenopausal women.
  • The study compared microbiota and metabolite profiles in postmenopausal women with normal BMD and those with osteoporosis (OS), finding significant differences in bacterial diversity and serum metabolites.
  • Key metabolites like etiocholanolone and testosterone sulfate were linked to normal BMD, particularly through pathways related to tryptophan metabolism, suggesting that gut health may influence bone density.

Incorporating passive radiative cooling and heating into personal thermal management has attracted tremendous attention. However, most current thermal management materials are usually monofunctional with a narrow temperature regulation range, and lack breathability, softness, and stretchability, resulting in a poor wearer experience and limited application scenarios. Herein, a breathable dual-mode leather-like nanotextile (LNT) with asymmetrical wrinkle photonic microstructures and Janus wettability for highly efficient personal thermal management is developed via a one-step electrospinning technique.

RNA Polymerase (RNAP) II transcription on non-coding repetitive satellite DNAs plays an important role in chromosome segregation, but a little is known about the regulation of satellite transcription. We here show that Topoisomerase I (TopI), not TopII, promotes the transcription of α-satellite DNAs, the main type of satellite DNAs on human centromeres. Mechanistically, TopI localizes to centromeres, binds RNAP II and facilitates RNAP II elongation.

Late Holocene relative sea-level (RSL) data are important to understand the drivers of RSL change, but there is a lack of precise RSL records from the Sunda Shelf. Here, we produced a Late Holocene RSL reconstruction from coral microatolls in Singapore, demonstrating for the first time the utility of Diploastrea heliopora microatolls as sea-level indicators. We produced 12 sea-level index points and three marine limiting data with a precision of < ± 0.

Cardiac microvascular endothelial cells (CMECs) assume a pivotal role in the regulation of blood flow, and their impairment precipitates a spectrum of pathological transformations. Our previous study unveiled a notable mitigation of CMECs dysfunction through the intervention of integrin subunit alpha 5 (ITGA5), a member of the integrin protein family. This study delves into the effect of ITGA5 on the mitochondrial function in CMECs and reveals the regulation pathway.

Current electrically heated fabrics provide heat in cold climates, suffer from abundant wasted radiant heat energy to the external environment, and are prone to damage by water. Thus, constructing energy-efficient and superhydrophobic conductive fabrics is in high demand. Therefore, we propose an effective and facile methodology to prepare a superhydrophobic, highly conductive, and trilayered fabric with a connected carbon nanotube (CNT) layer and a titanium dioxide (TiO) nanoparticle heat-reflecting layer.
