Ethylenediamine (EDA), as an important chemical raw material and fine chemical intermediate, has been widely applied in various industries. Real-time monitoring of EDA is highly desirable in daily life due to its potential threat to human health. Herein, we report a molecular probe named 4,4'-(9-carbazole-3,6-diyl)bis(1-(naphthalen-2-ylmethyl)pyridin-1-ium) iodide (p-N-DPC·I) with ratiometric luminescent and colorimetric dual-mode responses toward EDA, endowing a highly sensitive and selective detection method for its real-time monitoring.

With global decarbonization urgency for sustainability, enhancing the service stability of liquid metals (LMs) and reducing their oxidation-induced failures are crucial. The oxidation of LMs can adversely affect the fluidity required for hydraulic transmission, thermal management, and other transport scenarios. Given the importance, we have fabricated an LM-based SiC/graphene-Mo nanofluid (LMNF) and compared the rheological behavior to pure LM under an oxidative atmospheric environment.

In this study, the spatiotemporal evolution of full cycle of high-intensity dc argon arc discharge at atmospheric pressure is investigated by using a transferred arc device, which is easy to be directly observed in the experiment. Combining the voltage and current waveforms with high-speed images, the full cycle evolution process of high-intensity atmospheric dc arc can be divided into five different stages: breakdown pulse stage, cathode heating stage, current climbing stage, stable arc discharge stage, and finally arc extinguishing stage. The characteristics of each different stage are analyzed in detail through the electrical properties, high-speed pictures, and spectroscopic measurements.

Background: With an increasing number of patients undergoing left atrial appendage occlusion (LAAO), more attention is being paid to relieving clinical symptoms and improving the quality of life of these patients. For patients with atrial fibrillation (AF), direct current cardioversion (DCCV) is an alternate, nonpharmacological choice to restore sinus rhythm and relieve clinical symptoms.

Objectives: The purpose of this study was to assess the feasibility and safety of the DCCV at the time of LAAO for patients with AF.

Purposes: To evaluate the diagnostic value of tumor-educated platelets (TEP) lncRNA ROR for nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC).

Methods: Quantitative real-time PCR was used to determine the expression level of TEP lncRNA ROR in NPC patients (n = 50) as compared to normal subjects (n = 33). The ROC curve analysis was performed to assess the diagnostic value of TEP lncRNA ROR for NPC.

The Haber-Bosch process for ammonia (NH ) production in industry relies on high temperature and high pressure and is therefore highly energy intensive. In addition, the activity of the solid transition metal-based catalysts used is typically limited by the scaling relation between activation barrier for N dissociation and nitrogen-binding energy. Here, an innovative Li-based loop in a liquid alloy-salt catalytic system for ambient-pressure NH synthesis from N and H was developed.

Isolation and screening of different compounds from plant extracts are always the key for natural drug research, and the absorbed prototype components have been considered as potential active ingredients. UHPLC combined with quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometry (Q-TOF-LC/MS) has been widely used in the research of natural drugs; however, we still need a more effective tool to compare and treat from a raw data. In this study, we provided a fast analytical method to measure the absorbed prototype components and their metabolites both qualitatively and quantitatively based on molecular networking (MN).

Detachment (self-focused) and positive reinterpretation (situation-focused) are two important forms of cognitive reappraisal during emotion regulation. Previous research shows situation-focused reappraisal to be more effective than self-focused reappraisal for intentional emotion regulation. How the two differ in emotional consequences as components of automatic emotion regulation is however unclear.

Oxidative stress plays an important role in the pathology of liver disorders. Total C‑21 steroidal glycosides (TCSGs), isolated from the root tuber of Cynanchum auriculatum Royle ex Wight, have been reported to exert numerous effects, including liver protective and antioxidant effects. In order to investigate the potential mechanisms underlying the protective effects of TCSGs on liver function, the present study used the human normal liver cell line, L02, to evaluate the effects of TCSGs on hydrogen peroxide (H2O2)‑induced oxidative injury and inflammatory responses.

This study aimed to investigate the inhibitory effect of total C-21 steroidal glycoside (TCSG) from Baishouwu on the proliferation, invasion and apoptosis of human hepatoma HepG2 cells in vitro and the relevant molecular mechanism. The experiment was divded into control group, TCSG groups (25, 60, 150 mg·L⁻¹) and positive control cisplatin group (1.33 mg·L⁻¹).

Fungal inflammatory pseudotumor (FIPT) of the liver is a rare disease that may be mistaken for a malignant tumor. It is difficult to diagnose because of its nonspecific clinical and imaging features. We report the case of a 46-year-old Asian man who presented with a mass in the right upper quadrant of the abdomen.

Bell-shaped ciliates of the subclass Peritrichia, such as Vorticella, Carchesium and Epistylis, are commonly found in freshwater and other aquatic environments, either solitary or colonial. Peritrichs attach to a substratum via a contractile or non-motile stalk, and collect food particles by water current using ciliary rows around the edge of the bell, called the peristome. Some peritrichs are epibiotic and ectocommensalistic associates of aquatic insects and other animals, settling on the surface of their specific hosts.

A stretchable porous nanocomposite (PNC) is reported based on a hybrid of a multiwalled carbon nanotubes network and a poly(dimethylsiloxane) matrix for harvesting energy from mechanical interactions. The deformation-enabled energy-generating process makes the PNC applicable to various mechanical interactions, including pressing, stretching, bending, and twisting. It can be potentially used as an energy solution for wearable electronics.

A novel microporous nano-MgO/diatomite ceramic membrane with high positive surface charge was prepared, including synthesis of precursor colloid, dip-coating and thermal decomposition. Combined SEM, EDS, XRD and XPS studies show the nano-MgO is irregularly distributed on the membrane surface or pore walls and forms a positively charged nano coating. And the nano-MgO coating is firmly attached to the diatomite membrane via SiO chemical bond.

Regulation of charge-transport direction is realized through the coupling of triboelectrification, electrostatic induction, and semiconducting properties for area-scalable conversion of mechanical energy. The output current from each unit triboelectric generator can always constructively add up due to the unidirectional flow of electrons. This work proposes a practical and general route to area-scalable applications of the triboelectric generator and other energy-harvesting techniques.

Background: Frequency selectivity (FS) is an important aspect of auditory function, and is typically described by a tuning curve function. Sharply tuned curves represent a higher acuity in detecting frequency differences, and conversely, broadly tuned curves demonstrate a lower acuity. One way of obtaining tuning curves is from techniques based on subjective behavioral responses, which yields psychophysical tuning curves (PTCs).

Collecting and converting energy from ambient air flow promise to be a viable approach in developing self-powered autonomous electronics. Here, we report an effective and robust triboelectric generator that consists of an undulating thin-film membrane and an array of segmented fine-sized electrode pairs on a single substrate. Sequential processes of contact electrification and electrostatic induction generate alternating flows of free electrons when the membrane interacts with ambient air flow.
