Article Synopsis
  • The subtropical forests of East Asia host diverse and ancient plant species, but their evolutionary history and ability to adapt to climate change are not well understood.
  • Using whole-genome resequencing of the endangered tree species (Akaniaceae), researchers explored its lineage differences and demographic history, employing genomic approaches to assess mutation loads and climate responses.
  • Findings indicated significant genomic divergence between eastern and western populations due to historical climatic shifts, with edge populations showing higher mutation loads, suggesting they are more vulnerable to climate change and highlighting the need for targeted conservation efforts.

We used the correlation analysis of Larix chinensis tree-ring width chronologies, meteorological data as well as regional NDVI data to reconstruct the NDVI sequence variation of the north and south aspects of Taibai Mountain Nature Reserve in the recent 172 years. The results showed that the NDVI variation of Taibai Mountain Nature Reserve was consistent with plant growth dyna-mics. Hydrothermal condition in growing season was the dominant factor controlling NDVI changes.
