We compared the diagnostic values of multifrequency tympanometry (MFT) and conventional 226-Hz tympanometry in adults with otitis media with effusion (OME) and discuss whether the resonant frequency (RF) can be used as a reliable method in adults with OME. Prospective study was designed to compare the normal hearing group and the group with OME. In the OME group (n = 85), conductive or mixed hearing loss was found, air-bone gap was more than 10 dBHL, and acoustic reflex was not elicited.

Angiogenin, a potent angiogenic factor, was cloned and expressed by Escherichia coli and then purified with gel filtration chromatography. Approximately 90% pure angiogenin was obtained to generate a monoclonal antibody. Using western immunoblotting and ELISA, we confirmed that monoclonal antibody C46 secreted from hybridoma cells stably and specifically binds to angiogenin.

The title complex, [Cu(2)(C(7)H(6)NO(2))(2)(C(12)H(8)N(2))(2)(H(2)O)(2)]·2C(7)H(7)NO(2)·2H(2)O, consists of a dinuclear [Cu(2)(C(7)H(6)NO(2))(2)(C(12)H(8)N(2))(2)(H(2)O)(2)](2+) cation, two Cl(-) anions, two 4-amino-benzoic acid mol-ecules and two disordered water mol-ecules (site occupancy factors 0.5). The Cu(II) ion adopts a distorted square-pyramidal geometry formed by two N atoms from the 1,10-phenanthroline ligand and two O atoms of the two 4-amino-benzoic acid ligands and one water O atom.

Cortical interneurons in rodents are generated in the ventral telencephalon and migrate tangentially into the cortex. This process requires the coordinated action of many intrinsic and extrinsic factors. Here we show that Robo1 and Robo2 receptor proteins are dynamically expressed throughout the period of corticogenesis and colocalize with interneuronal markers, suggesting that they play a role in the migration of these cells.

Aim: To construct the vector stably expressing small hair RNA(shRNA) and investigate the effect of shRNA expressed with DNA vector on HBV replication and expression.

Methods: The vector expressing shRNA designated pU6 was constructed by U6 promoter. The sequence of shRNA targeting on specific region of HBV genome against HBV was designed and synthesized, then cloned into pU6.

Objective: To test the effect of p163 and EGFR-antisense cDNA in signal transduction on Hep-2 laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma in vitro.

Methods: The Hep-2 laryngeal squamous carcinoma cells were transfected by recombinant adenovirus AdEasy-EGFR-antisense and AdEasy-p16beta in vitro. The inhibition of the EGFR expression and cell growth and changes of cell cycle, DNA content, apoptosis and ultramicrostructure of the Hep-2 cells were examined by MTT, Western blotting analysis, Flow cytometry analysis, Immunohistochemistry, and transmission electron microscope respectively.

The aim of this study is to target the interference therapy of signal transduction which is a novel therapeutic strategy in laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma (LSCC). We successfully constructed recombinant adenoviruses Ad-p14ARF, and Ad-antisense EGFR using AdEasy-1 vector System. Clonogenic cell assay, western blotting assay, 3'(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyl tetrazolium bromide (MTT) assay, flow cytometer (FCM) assay, and immunocytochemical technique were designed to examine the inhibition of proliferation, protein expression of p14ARF and EGFR and induction of differentiation, respectively.

By the method of strip transect sampling, the density, height, basal diameter, and components biomass of Abies faxoniana seedlings (H < or = 100 cm) lived in the forest gap (FG) and under the forest canopy (FC) of subalpine natural coniferous forest in West Sichuan were investigated, and the relationships among different components biomass were analyzed. The results indicated that the density and average height (H) of A. faxoniana seedlings were significantly different in FG and under FC, with the values being 12 903 and 2 017 per hectare, and 26.

In pheochromocytomas, it is very difficult to predict malignant potential by conventional histology or immunohistochemical and molecular markers. We investigated the expression of human telomerase catalytic component (hTERT) mRNA, hTERT protein, Ki-67 antigen, and p27kip1 in pheochromocytomas (27 benign, 7 suspected malignant, and 7 malignant), and evaluated the possibility of expressions of these proteins, and hTERT mRNA serve as diagnostic markers for predicting the biological behavior of these tumors. All tumors showed the classical histology and typical immunohistochemical pattern.

Objective: To investigate the hepatotoxic effects of N, N-dimethylformamide (DMF) in the workers of a synthetic leathers factory, and the effects on liver function of covariates such as alcohol consumption and other factors.

Methods: The workers were classified into three groups (low, high and the control) by the concentration of DMF in workplace which was determined in the past two years. A questionnaire was drawn up for relevant demographic characteristics and other factors influencing liver function.

Background: Periodogram analysis of time-series is widespread in biology. A new challenge for analyzing the microarray time series data is to identify genes that are periodically expressed. Such challenge occurs due to the fact that the observed time series usually exhibit non-idealities, such as noise, short length, and unevenly sampled time points.

The tumor suppressor p14(ARF) and protooncogene epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) play an important role in the development of laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma (LSCC). We explored the inhibition of proliferation and induction of differentiation in human larynx cancer cells (Hep-2) in vitro when p14(ARF) couples with antisense complementary DNA of EGFR to transfect into Hep-2 cells via the AdEasy-1 vector system. In vitro studies, using standard isobologram analyses, identified whether Ad-antisense EGFR is synergistic with Ad-14(ARF).
