Intraoperative bleeding is a common issue in various surgical procedures, and the extent of bleeding significantly impacts the safety, efficacy, and prognosis of surgery. Therefore, accurate assessment of intraoperative blood loss and timely intervention are essential for the smooth progression of surgery and favorable clinical outcomes. Currently, clinical methods for estimating blood loss are generally classified into two main categories: visual and calculation methods.

Carbon fiber reinforced epoxy resin composites (CFRP) demonstrate superior wear resistance and fatigue durability, which are anticipated to markedly enhance the service life of structures under complex conditions. In the present paper, the friction behaviors and wear mechanisms of CFRP under different applied loads, sliding speeds, service temperatures, and water lubrication were studied and analyzed in detail. The results indicated that the tribological properties of CFRP were predominantly influenced by the applied loads, as the tangential displacement generated significant shear stress at the interface of the friction pair.

Timely and accurate monitoring of above-ground biomass (AGB) is of great significance for indicating crop growth status, predicting yield, and assessing carbon dynamics. Compared with the traditional time-consuming and laborious method through destructive sampling, UAV remote sensing provides a timely and efficient strategy for estimating biomass. However, the universality of remote sensing retrieval models with multi-feature fusion under different management practices and cultivars are unknown.

With a nontrivial topological band and intrinsic magnetic order, two-dimensional (2D) MnBiTe-family materials exhibit great promise for exploring exotic quantum phenomena and potential applications. However, the synthesis of 2D MnBiTe-family materials via chemical vapor deposition (CVD), which is essential for advancing device applications, still remains a significant challenge since it is difficult to control the reactions among multi-precursors and form pure phases. Here, we report a controllable synthesis of high-quality magnetic topological insulator MnBiTe and MnBiTe multilayers via an evaporation-rate-controlled CVD approach.

The noble metal alloy AuSn has recently been identified as an intrinsic surface topological superconductor, promisingly hosting the Majorana zero mode (MZM) for topological quantum computing. However, the atomic visualization of its nontrivial surface states and MZM remains elusive. Here, we report the direct observation of unconventional surface states and vortex zero mode in AuSn by scanning tunneling microscopy/spectroscopy.

Background: As the second most populous country in the world, China has a huge demand for health human resources. Over the past decade, the Chinese government has continuously increased investment in the health sector and implemented relevant policies and systems in an attempt to enhance the overall quantity and equity of health human resources. This study aims to analyze the equity and developmental trends in the allocation of health human resources in China from 2012 to 2021, providing reference and theoretical support for the government's further optimization of health human resources allocation.

This study aims to explore the impact of Internet use on the mental health of older adults and its pathway mechanisms and to provide a theoretical basis and practical guidance for improving the mental health of older adults and better realizing active aging. Using cross-sectional data from the 2020 China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Survey, 6722 older adults over 60 were finally included. We conducted descriptive and correlation analyses of the data; we analyzed the correlation of Internet use on the depression level and cognitive ability of older adults using seemingly unrelated regression; we further explored the mediating role of socialization frequency in the relationship between Internet use and the depression level and cognitive ability of older adults and its differences through mediation analysis.

Calcific aortic valve disease (CAVD) is becoming an increasingly important global medical problem, but effective pharmacological treatments are lacking. Noncoding RNAs play a pivotal role in the progression of cardiovascular diseases, but their relationship with CAVD remains unclear. Sequencing data revealed differential expression of many noncoding RNAs in normal and calcified aortic valves, with significant differences in circHIPK3 and miR-182-5p expression.

LaFeO thin films were successfully epitaxially grown on single-crystalline SrTiO substrates by the one-step hydrothermal method at a temperature of 320 °C in a 10 mol/L KOH aqueous solution using La(NO) and Fe(NO) as the raw materials. The growth of the films was consistent with the island growth mode. Scanning electronic microscopy, elemental mapping, and atomic force microscopy demonstrate that the LaFeO thin films cover the SrTiO substrate thoroughly.

Van der Waals (vdW) ferromagnetic materials have emerged as a promising platform for the development of 2D spintronic devices. However, studies to date are restricted to vdW ferromagnetic materials with low Curie temperature (T) and small magnetic anisotropy. Here, a chemical vapor transport method is developed to synthesize a high-quality room-temperature ferromagnet, FeGaTe (c-FeGaTe), which boasts a high T = 356 K and large perpendicular magnetic anisotropy.

Background: Previous studies have proven the positive relationship between healthy lifestyles and cognitive function in older adults. However, the specific impacts and mechanisms require further investigation. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate whether healthy lifestyles and cognitive function were associated with Chinese older adults and whether depressive symptoms mediated their association.

Objective: To investigate the clinical significance of miR-499a expression in the serum of ischemic stroke patients and its potential mechanism in regulating astrocytes to promote ischemic stroke.

Methods: Serum samples from 99 ischemic stroke patients and 99 healthy individuals were collected and analyzed for miR-499a expression through RT-PCR. Statistical analysis was performed to compare the expression differences between the two groups, and correlation between miR-499a expression and clinical pathological indices in stroke patients was analyzed.

Background: The common clinical method to evaluate blood loss during pancreaticoduodenectomy (PD) is visual inspection, but most scholars believe that this method is extremely subjective and inaccurate. Currently, there is no accurate, objective method to evaluate the amount of blood loss in PD patients.

Aim: The hemoglobin (Hb) loss method was used to analyze the amount of blood loss during PD, which was compared with the blood loss estimated by traditional visual methods.

Ramie-fiber-reinforced polymer composites (RFRP) have the advantages of low price and low energy consumption, but they have high hydrophilicity due to their special chemical composition. In order to study the effect of water absorption on the performance degradation of RFRP in a hydrothermal environment, the authors prepared RFRP sheets by compression molding. Manufactured composites were exposed to a hydrothermal environment with a temperature of 40 °C and a humidity of 50% RH, 85% RH and 98% RH to study the water absorption and diffusion, mechanical properties (tensile properties, flexural properties and shear properties) of the RFRP, and their mechanical properties after drying.

Hemodynamic overload and dysregulation of cellular metabolism are involved in development of calcific aortic valve disease (CAVD). However, how mechanical stress relates to metabolic changes in CAVD remains unclear. Here, we show that Piezo1, a mechanosensitive ion channel, regulated glutaminase 1 (GLS1)-mediated glutaminolysis to promote osteogenic differentiation of valve interstitial cells (VICs).
