Heavy metal pollution in urban river sediments poses a significant threat to ecosystem health; a study conducted in Kaifeng City compared sediment samples from 2015 and 2021 to evaluate this issue.
Results showed a notable decrease in heavy metal concentrations—Cd, Cr, Cu, Ni, Pb, and Zn dropped significantly, with Cd showing the largest reduction.
Despite improvements, heavy metal levels, especially in the Huafei and Huiji Rivers, remain concerning, indicating a need for ongoing monitoring and targeted pollution control efforts.
