Pulmonary large cell neuroendocrine carcinoma (LCNEC) has a poor prognosis, and there is no consensus on optimal treatment strategies for pulmonary LCNEC. Certain patients with pulmonary LCNEC may benefit from targeted and traditional programmed cell death protein-1 (PD-1) monoclonal antibody therapies, however, for most patients, only a few drugs are effective after chemotherapy. The present report describes the case of a 68-year-old man with advanced pulmonary LCNEC treated with cadonilimab and anlotinib after becoming resistant to PD-1 monoclonal antibody therapy and multiple chemotherapies.

Article Synopsis
  • - This study explores a new reaction in Sonogashira coupling where both dehalogenation and hydrogenation occur simultaneously, specifically using hexahalogenobenzenes (CX, where X = I or Br).
  • - Researchers synthesized a bulky terminal alkyne to analyze how different reaction conditions affect the DHH reaction, later testing a less hindered alkyne to see its impact on the process.
  • - The outcome produced two new aromatic polyynes, and their photophysical properties were analyzed, contributing valuable insights into the reactions involving sterically hindered alkynes and polyhalogenated aromatic compounds.

Organic-inorganic hybrid perovskites have been recognized as potential candidates in direct X-ray detectors and have triggered tremendous interest in the past years. The blade coating method meets the requirements of large area and low cost for perovskite X-ray detectors, while the low compactness resulting from solvent evaporation limits the charge collection efficiency (CCE) and device sensitivity. Most of the reports are focused on the melioration of perovskite films to increase device sensitivity; there are still problems of low CCE.

Background: The South West Thames Centre for Genomics implemented a wider diagnostic Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) gene panel for eligible cancer patients undergoing diagnostic testing whilst restricting data analysis and reporting for BRCA1/BRCA2/PALB2/CHEK2 1100delC only as per contemporaneous guidelines. This study investigated the cost-utility of reanalyzing existing diagnostic grade extended panel data for truncating germline pathogenic variants (GPVs) in known moderate risk cancer susceptibility genes (CSGs) and performing follow-up genetic testing for first-degree relatives if patients have an identified CSG allele.

Methods: Reanalysis of existing NGS data was undertaken in 889 samples from cancer patients contemporaneously eligible through the NHS England National Genomic Test Directory (NGTD) codes R207 (ovarian) or R208 (breast) who had tested negative for BRCA1/BRCA2/PALB2 and CHEK2 1100delC founder variant.

Drought is one of the vital meteorological disasters that influence crop growth. Timely and accurately estimating the drought dynamics of crops is valuable for decision-maker to formulate scientific management measures of agricultural drought risk. In this study, the evapotranspiration and drought dynamics of winter wheat from 1981 to 2020 in the Huang-Huai-Hai (HHH) region of China were evaluated based on long-term multi-source observation data.

Recombinant adeno-associated virus (rAAV) has emerged as a prominent vector for in vivo gene therapy, owing to its distinct advantages. Accurate determination of the rAAV genome titer is crucial for ensuring the safe and effective administration of clinical doses. The evolution of the rAAV genome titer assay from quantitative PCR (qPCR) to digital PCR (dPCR) has enhanced accuracy and precision, yet practical challenges persist.

Currently, adeno-associated virus (AAV) is one of the primary gene delivery vectors in gene therapy, facilitating long-term gene expression. Despite being imperative, it is incredibly challenging to precisely assess AAV particle distribution according to the sedimentation coefficient and identify impurities related to capsid structures. This study performed the systematic methodological validation of quantifying the AAV empty and full capsid ratio.

Recombinant proteins are gaining increasing popularity for treating human diseases. The clinical effectiveness of recombinant proteins is directly related to their biological activity, which is an important indicator in drug development and quality control. However, certain recombinant proteins have unclear or complex signal pathways, making detecting their activity in vitro difficult.

Efficient detection of single optical centres in solids is essential for quantum information processing, sensing and single-photon generation applications. In this work, we use radio-frequency (RF) reflectometry to electrically detect the photoionisation induced by a single Er ion in Si. The high bandwidth and sensitivity of the RF reflectometry provide sub-100-ns time resolution for the photoionisation detection.

Acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) is one of the most common malignant tumor types of the circulatory system. Dexamethasone (DEX) acts on the glucocorticoid (GC) receptor (GR) and is a first-line chemotherapy drug for ALL. However, long-term or high-dose applications of the drug can not only cause adverse reactions, such as osteoporosis and high blood pressure, but can also cause downregulation of GR and lead to drug resistance.

Exposure to child maltreatment (CM), and parental domestic violence and abuse (DVA), impose considerable adverse life outcomes in both the short and long term, yet, the extent and effects of their co-occurrence on outcomes have not been comprehensively quantified. This study describes the analysis of data from the Avon Longitudinal Study of Parents and Children, quantifying the prevalence of CM, parental DVA, co-occurrence rates, and the impact of different combinations of childhood exposures on life outcomes (health, economic, and likelihood of perpetrating intimate partner violence as a young person). Childhood exposure prevalences were estimated at 41.

A high-sensitivity plasmonic photonic crystal fiber (PCF) sensor is designed and a metal thin film is embedded for achieving surface plasmon resonance (SPR), which can detect the magnetic field and temperature simultaneously. Within the plasmonic PCF sensor, the SPR sensing is accomplished by coating both the upper sensing channel (Ch1) and the lower sensing channel (Ch2) with gold film. In addition, the temperature-sensitive medium polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) is chosen to fill in Ch1, allowing the sensor to respond to the temperature.
