Background: Malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumors (MPNSTs) are an aggressive form of sarcomas with a poor prognosis and limited treatment options. Therefore, new therapeutic targets are urgently needed to identify novel drugs.
Methods: Based on the Gene Expression Omnibus database, an integrated analysis was performed to identify differentially expressed genes (DEGs) in MPNSTs compared to neurofibromas (NFs).
Osteoarthritis is a prevalent global joint disease, which is characterized by inflammatory reaction and cartilage degradation. Cyasterone, a sterone derived from the roots of Cyathula officinalis Kuan, exerts protective effect against several inflammation-related diseases. However, its effect on osteoarthritis remains unclear.

There are several hypotheses for the formation of SEACs, but none of them can fully explain its pathological findings and surgical procedures. In this study, we retrospectively analyzed the cases of SEACs, aiming to clarify the formation mechanism of SEACs.

A 56-year-old man was admitted to Xiangya Hospital Central South University in Changsha, Hunan province, China after having an experience of perianal pain for a week. An enhancing mass, a tumor clinically suggested, was showed at the S1-S2 level of the lumbosacral spine by the examination of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) with gadolinium contrast.

Methods: After high-speed centrifugation, tRNA, which was extracted from the extracellular vesicles of patients with hypopharyngeal cancer and healthy subjects, was sequenced using microarrays. The expression of three differentially expressed tRNAs in hypopharyngeal cancer, healthy subjects, human normal laryngeal epithelial cells and hypopharyngeal cancer line was detected by qRT-PCR.

An implantable axial blood pump was designed according to the circulation assist requirement of severe heart failure patients of China. The design point was chosen at 3 L/min flow rate with 100 mm Hg pressure rise when the blood pump can provide flow rates of 2-7 L/min. The blood pump with good hemolytic and anti-thrombogenic property at widely operating range was designed by developing a structure that including the spindly rotor impeller structure and the diffuser with splitter blades and cantilevered main blades.

However, the molecular mechanisms underlying the effect of miR-423-3p in glioma growth remain unclear. In the present study, the reverse transcription-quantitative polymerase chain reaction and western blotting were used to assess the mRNA and protein expression levels of miR-423-3p, respectively.

However, it has been reported that treatment with TMZ can induce autophagy, which leads to tumor resistance and increases the survival of tumor cells. MicroRNA-30a (miR-30a) has been found to have inhibitory effects on autophagy by directly targeting beclin 1.

Methods: The rat model of SCI was established using Allen's method. Seventy-two adult male Sprague Dawley (SD) rats were randomly assigned into 4 groups (18 rats in each group): the sham control group, saline control group, BMSCs group (injection with BMSCs at the injured site) and BMSCs + TNF-α group (injection with BMSCs under TNF-α treatment at the injured site).
This study was intended to compare the therapeutic efficacies of NEP1-40 and SiNgR199 on treating spinal cord injury (SCI). Nogo-A, growth associated protein 43 (GAP-43), microtubule associated protein 2 (MAP-2), and amyloid βA4 precursor protein (APP) expressions were determined using western blot and quantitative PCR. Neurite outgrowth detected the growth of neurites, and BDA anterograde tracing was used to label the regenerated axonal.

We constructed a mice model of spinal cord injury and injected different lentiviral vectors which were transfected with TWEAK, TWEAK small interfering RNA (siRNA) and Fn14 siRNA into different groups of mice. Locomotor functional recovery status of the hind limb in mice was assessed using the Basso, Beattie and Bresnahan (BBB) test.

Objective: To explore the clinical significance of the protection of superior petrosal vein (SPV) in the microneurosurgery for acoustic neuroma.
Methods: From January 2009 to July 2011, 149 cases of acoustic neuroma microsurgery were observed. The difference in hematoma in surgical area, cerebellar hematoma and cerebellar edema were compared between a SPV without protection group (SPVWP group, n=8) and a SPV protection group (SPVP group, n=141).

Aim: To investigate the relation between brain ischemia and persistent vegetative state after severe traumatic brain injury.
Methods: The 66 patients with severe brain injury were divided into two groups: The persistent coma group (coma duration ≥10 d) included 51 patients who had an admission Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS) of 5-8 and were unconscious for more than 10 d. There were 15 patients in the control group, their admission GCS was 5-8, and were unconscious for less than 10 d.

A 33-year-old male presented with a thoracic spinal intramedullary meningioma manifesting as bilateral asymmetric progressive weakness in the lower extremities. Preoperative magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) showed an intramedullary mass at the T1-T3 level. Intraoperative inspection found that the spinal cord was markedly swollen with a normal surface while dural attachment was not confirmed.

It has been demonstrated that quercetin inhibits oxidative stress in some animal models and specific cells, but the particular mechanism is known a little. In the present study, we found that quercetin could decrease the expression of Krüppel-like factor 4 (KLF4) induced by hydrogen peroxide (H(2)O(2)) in human neuroblastoma SH-SY5Y cells, further increase the expression ratio of bcl-2 to bax, which were apoptotic-related target genes of KLF4, thus alleviate the apoptotic rate and caspase-3 enzyme activity of SH-5YSY cells; the overexpression or inhibition of KLF4 demonstrated the mediated role of KLF4 for the protective effect of quercetin on cell damage induced by H(2)O(2).
