Background: Surgery is the preferred treatment option for the elderly patients with hip fractures. However, the choice of general anesthesia (GA) or regional anesthesia (RA) remains controversial. The quality of evidence has further improved with the advent of several high-quality randomized clinical trials (RCTs) in the last two years.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to compare the effectiveness and safety of oral versus intravenous tranexamic acid (TXA) in elderly patients undergoing surgery for intertrochanteric fractures.
  • It included 105 patients divided into three groups: those receiving oral TXA, those receiving intravenous TXA, and a control group with no TXA.
  • Results showed that both TXA treatment groups had significantly lower blood transfusion rates and total blood loss compared to the control group, with no notable differences between the oral and intravenous groups.

Background: Several predictors have been shown to be independently associated with chronic postsurgical pain for gastrointestinal surgery, but few studies have investigated the factors associated with acute postsurgical pain (APSP). The aim of this study was to identify the predictors of APSP intensity and severity through investigating demographic, psychological, and clinical variables.

Methods: We performed a prospective cohort study of 282 patients undergoing gastrointestinal surgery to analyze the predictors of APSP.

The novel coronavirus disease (2019-nCoV) has been affecting global health since the end of 2019, and there is no sign that the epidemic is abating. Targeting the interaction between the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) spike protein and the human angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2) receptor is a promising therapeutic strategy. In this study, surface plasmon resonance (SPR) was used as the primary method to screen a library of 960 compounds.

To develop a fast track transfer to intensive care unit (ICU) for the perioperative high-risk elderly patients after hip fracture surgery and analyze the preliminary clinical effect of the application. From January 2014 to December 2017, before the application of postoperative fast track transfer to ICU, the clinical data of 195 elderly patients with hip fracture were included in a retrospective analysis. Among 195 hip fracture patients, 18 were transferred to ICU post operation (non-fast track group).

Article Synopsis
  • The network meta-analysis aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of various traditional Chinese medicine injections (TCMIs) when combined with systemic chemotherapy for treating hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC).
  • It analyzed data from 20 randomized controlled trials (RCTs) involving 1,418 patients, focusing on Aidi, compound Kushen, and Kanglaite injections as complementary therapies.
  • Results indicated that the combination of TCMIs with chemotherapy improved patient outcomes like objective response rates and had fewer side effects compared to chemotherapy alone, with a slight advantage for Kanglaite injection.

Objective: To investigate the factors affecting counting and collection efficiency of the final product- mononuclear cells (MNCs) in the collection of mononuclear cells for tumor cell biotherapy.

Methods: The collected data of 142 tumor patients and healthy donors were analyzed, including age, sex, height, weight, BMI, the total blood volume, diagnostic category, vascular access, operator, final product volume, ACD anticoagulant usage, flow rate and circulation times, pre-apheresis Hb, RBC, Plt, WBC, lymphocyte count, monocyte count, neutrophil count, circulating blood volume without anticoagulant, final product MNC and collection efficiency of MNC. CE(collection efficiency)%= final product MNC×100/(pre-apheresis MNC×circulating blood volume without anticoagulant).

Sepsis-associated encephalopathy (SAE) is a potentially irreversible acute cognitive dysfunction with unclear mechanism. Striatal-enriched protein tyrosine phosphatase (STEP) is a brain-specific phosphatase which normally opposes synaptic strengthening by regulating key signaling molecules involved in synaptic plasticity and neuronal function. Thus, we hypothesized that abnormal STEP signaling pathway was involved in sepsis-induced cognitive impairment evoked by lipopolysaccharides (LPS) injection.

Ethnopharmacological Relevance: Dahuang Zhechong pill (DHZCP) is a commonly used traditional Chinese medicine for the treatment of hepatocarcinoma.

Aim Of The Study: Previous studies have found that DHZCP can exert anti-hepatocarcinoma effects and reverse drug resistance by inhibiting energy metabolism. The goal of this study was to further explore the pharmacodynamic substances that inhibit energy metabolism.

Objective: To study the mechanism of micro-ribonucleic acid (miR)-25 in regulating the fracture healing in rats.

Materials And Methods: A total of 45 male Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats were selected and randomly divided into group A [Phosphate Buffered Saline (PBS), n=15], group B (mimics NC, n=15) and group C (miR-25 mimics, n=15). The fracture model in rats was established via operation in all groups.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigated the characteristics of colonic neuroendocrine neoplasms (NENs) and validated the prognostic value of ENETS and AJCC 8th staging systems.
  • A total of 167 patients from China and 1248 patients from the SEER cancer registry were analyzed to compare clinicopathological features and staging outcomes.
  • The findings showed significant differences in features based on tumor origin, with midgut tumors tending to be larger and more advanced, and both staging systems exhibiting similar prognostic abilities for colonic NEC/MANEC.

Background: Well-differentiated pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors (PanNETs) usually have a good prognosis; however, there are patients that experience recurrence after curative resection.

Aim: To explore recurrence-related risk factors by analyzing clinicopathological data of PanNETs after radical surgery.

Methods: Clinical and pathological data from 47 patients with well-differentiated PanNETs at China-Japan Friendship Hospital from January 2012 to March 2016 were analyzed retrospectively.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to investigate abnormal microRNA (miRNA) expression in type 1 gastric neuroendocrine neoplasms (g-NENs) and identify potential target genes for these miRNAs.
  • Researchers analyzed tumor tissues from patients with type 1 g-NENs, comparing them to gastric mucosal tissues for control, and utilized multiple methodologies, including miRNA chips and RT-PCR, to assess expression levels and predict target genes.
  • Results showed that miR-202-3p was significantly upregulated in tumors and may be linked to tumor development, with a total of 215 target genes identified, including DUSP1, which was confirmed to be regulated by miR-

A megavolt low-jitter self-break repetitive gas switch is developed by the use of the corona stabilization and the multi-stage structure in this paper. This switch is multi-stage, consisting of one corona stabilization stage and subsequent rimfire stages. The corona stabilization stage breakdowns first, then the subsequent rimfire stages are self-fired by the over-voltage from the closure of the corona stabilization stage.
