Background and Purpose- Intravenous thrombolysis with r-tPA (recombinant tissue-type plasminogen activator) is associated with improved early functional outcome after stroke, but its long-term effects are less understood. We aimed to determine the association between r-tPA and 1-year outcomes after stroke. Methods- We used the Ontario Stroke Registry to identify patients diagnosed with ischemic stroke between 2002 and 2013 in Ontario, Canada, their baseline characteristics, and whether they received r-tPA.

Background: Transgenic mouse studies suggest that γ-aminobutyric acid type A (GABAA) receptors containing β3 subunits mediate important effects of etomidate, propofol, and pentobarbital. Zebrafish, recently introduced for rapid discovery and characterization of sedative-hypnotics, could also accelerate pharmacogenetic studies if their transgenic phenotypes reflect those of mammals. The authors hypothesized that, relative to wild-type, GABAA-β3 functional knock-out (β3) zebrafish would show anesthetic sensitivity changes similar to those of β3 mice.

The interfacial (electro)chemical reactions between electrode and electrolyte dictate the cycling stability of Li-ion batteries. Previous experimental and computational results have shown that replacing Mn and Co with Ni in layered LiNiMnCoO (NMC) positive electrodes promotes the dehydrogenation of carbonate-based electrolytes on the oxide surface, which generates protic species to decompose LiPF in the electrolyte. In this study, we utilized this understanding to stabilize LiNiMnCoO (NMC811) by decreasing free-solvent activity in the electrolyte through controlling salt concentration and salt dissociativity.

The temporal flicker distortion is one of the most annoying noises in synthesized virtual view videos when they are rendered by compressed multi-view video plus depth in Three Dimensional (3D) video system. To assess the synthesized view video quality and further optimize the compression techniques in 3D video system, objective video quality assessment which can accurately measure the flicker distortion is highly needed. In this paper, we propose a full reference sparse representation based video quality assessment method towards synthesized 3D videos.

The design of low-cost yet high-efficiency electrocatalysts for hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) and oxygen evolution reaction (OER) over a wide pH range is highly challenging. We now report a hierarchical co-assembly of interacting MoS and CoS nanosheets attached on NiS nanorod arrays which are supported on nickel foam (NF). This tiered structure endows high performance toward HER and OER over a very broad pH range.

Optical fiber-mediated optogenetic activation and neuronal Ca recording in combination with fMRI provide a multi-modal fMRI platform. Here, we developed an MRI-guided robotic arm (MgRA) as a flexible positioning system with high precision to real-time assist optical fiber brain intervention for multi-modal animal fMRI. Besides the ex vivo precision evaluation, we present the highly reliable brain activity patterns in the projected basal forebrain regions upon MgRA-driven optogenetic stimulation in the lateral hypothalamus.

The risk of incident hypertension associated with long-term exposure to fine particulate matter (PM) was still unclear by studies conducted in North America and Europe, and this relationship has rarely been quantified at higher ambient concentrations typically found in developing countries. We aimed to investigate the association between PM and incident hypertension using the large-scale prospective cohorts in China. We included 59 456 participants without hypertension aged ≥18 years from the China-PAR (Prediction for Atherosclerotic Cardiovascular Disease Risk in China) project.

We propose a high speed all-optic dual-modal system that combines spectral domain optical coherence tomography (SDOCT) and photoacoustic imaging (PAI) to evaluate microvasculature flow states. A homodyne interferometer was used to remotely detect the surface vibration caused by photoacoustic (PA) waves. The PA excitation, PA probing and SDOCT probing beams share the same X-Y galvanometer scanner to perform fast two-dimensional scanning.

Anti-CD19 chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T cell therapies can cause severe cytokine-release syndrome (CRS) and neurotoxicity, impeding their therapeutic application. Here we generated a new anti-CD19 CAR molecule (CD19-BBz(86)) derived from the CD19-BBz prototype bearing co-stimulatory 4-1BB and CD3ζ domains. We found that CD19-BBz(86) CAR T cells produced lower levels of cytokines, expressed higher levels of antiapoptotic molecules and proliferated more slowly than the prototype CD19-BBz CAR T cells, although they retained potent cytolytic activity.

The LiNiCo Al O (NCA)-layered materials are regarded as a research focus of power lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) because of their high capacity. However, NCA materials are still up against the defects of cation mixing and surface erosion of electrolytes. Herein, a novel design strategy is proposed to obtain a heterostructured cathode material with a high-capacity LiNiCoAlO layer ( R3̅ m) core and a stable LiNiMnO-like spinel ( Fd3̅ m) shell, which is prepared through spontaneous redox reaction of the precursor with KMnO in an alkaline solution and subsequent calcination procedure.

Three-dimensional (3D) porous graphene oxide-maize amylopectin (GO-MA) composites with controllable pore-sizes composites in the range of 6-40 nm were prepared by facile hydrothermal-assisted assembly approaches. The morphologies, pore sizes, specific surface area (SSA) and compositions of GO-MA composites with and different GO-to-MA mass ratios (x:y) were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), N adsorption-desorption isotherms, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). To reveal the adsorption-desorption mechanism, effects of contact time, temperature, initial adsorbate concentration, pH value of the solution on the adsorption process were studied in detail.
