The expression of bcl-x(L), an antiapoptotic member of the bcl-2 family, has been correlated with poor prognosis in nodal follicular lymphomas (NFLs). So far, it has not been studied in primary cutaneous follicle center lymphomas (PCFCLs), which, compared with NFLs, express less frequently t(14;18)(q32;q21) and bcl-2. Using real-time PCR we measured bcl-xL and bcl-2 gene expression levels in laser-microdissected lymphoma cells of 20 PCFCL frozen sections.

A novel Bcl-XL inhibitor Z36 that induces autophagic cell death in Hela cells.

Inhibition of Bcl2 family proteins Bcl-X(L) and Bcl-2 represents a promising drug development strategy for cancer treatment by triggering apoptosis in cancer cells. Here we report a novel Bcl-X(L) inhibitor, Z36, which unexpectedly induces only autophagic cell death, but not apoptosis. This special property distinguishes Z36 from other previously reported Bcl-X(L) and Bcl-2 inhibitors that induce cancer cell death mainly through apoptosis, and makes Z36 an attractive molecular tool for studying the cellular regulation of autophagic cell death and apoptosis.

[Canonical correspondence analysis between phytoplankton community and environmental factors in winter and summer in shallow lakes of plain river network areas, Suzhou].

Field investigations on the phytoplankton community were carried out in December 2005 and June 2006 in shallow lakes of plainriver network areas, Suzhou City. Results show that there are 73 species, 62 genus, 8 phylum phytoplankton, which is mainly composed of the Chlorophyta, Bacillariophyta and Cyanophyta. In winter, the average phytoplankton abundance is 254.

Nitrate pollution in groundwater has become a worldwide problem. It may affect the water quality for daily use and thus the health of people. The temporal and spatial characteristics of nitrate pollution in the groundwater were addressed by sample analysis of the drinkable water from 157 wells in Hailun, Heilongjiang, northeastern China.

[Preparation of docetaxel-loaded pH-sensitive block copolymer micelles].

Basing on the synthesis of pH-sensitive amphiphilic block copolymer poly (2-ethyl-2-oxazoline)-poly (D, L-lactide)(PEOz-PDLLA), this paper presents the preparation of docetaxel-loaded pH-sensitive block copolymer micelles using film dispersion method. The critical micelle concentration (CMC) was measured by pyrene fluorescent probe technique. The entrapment efficiency and drug-loaded amount were determined by HPLC.

Inhibition of the Bcl-xL deamidation pathway in myeloproliferative disorders.

Background: The myeloproliferative disorders are clonal disorders with frequent somatic gain-of-function alterations affecting tyrosine kinases. In these diseases, there is an increase in DNA damage and a risk of progression to acute leukemia. The molecular mechanisms in myeloproliferative disorders that prevent apoptosis induced by damaged DNA are obscure.

Involvement of the apoptotic mechanism in pemphigus foliaceus autoimmune injury of the skin.

Pemphigus foliaceus (PF) is an organ-specific autoimmune skin disease characterized by subcorneal epidermal cell detachment (acantholysis) and pathogenic autoantibodies against desmoglein 1. The mechanism responsible for pemphigus autoantibody-induced epidermal injury is not fully understood. In this study, we used the IgG passive transfer mouse model of PF to investigate the relevance of the apoptotic mechanism in pemphigus pathogenesis.

[Study on the fluorescence characteristics of BOD sensing films immobilizing different limnetic microorganism].

Taking tetramethoxysilane (TMOS) and dimethyldimethoxysilane (DiMe-DMOS) as precursors for the synthesis of an organically-modified silicates (ORMOSILs), optical BOD sensing films immobilizing five kinds of limnetic microorganisms were composed by poly(vinyl alcohol) ormosils matrix. Their fluorescence characteristics were studied with a home-made optical BOD apparatus. According to the experimental results, linearity between BOD and the corresponding fluorescence intensity ranging from 0-60 mg x L(-1) to 0-120 mg x L(-1) could be obtained on the sensing films immobilizing limnetic microorganisms and their mixture.

Formation of nine N-nitrosamines has been investigated when seven different source waters representing various qualities were each treated with eleven bench-scale disinfection processes, without addition of nitrosamine precursors. These disinfection treatments included chlorine (OCl-), chloramine (NH2Cl), chlorine dioxide (ClO2), ozone (O3), ultraviolet (UV), advanced oxidation processes (AOP), and combinations. The total organic carbon (TOC) of the seven source waters ranged from 2 to 24 mg x L(-1).
