Two phosphate solubilizing bacteria (T PSB1 and T PSB 2) with high heavy metal resistance were isolated from soil of a lead-zinc mine in Huayuan of Hunan Province, China. These two bacteria were identified as Stenotrophomonas maltophilia and Burkholderia gladioli by 16S rRNA sequencing analysis, respectively. In the media containing insoluble inorganic calcium phosphate, the soluble phosphate amounts reached respectively 402.

Previously, we reported that although the Arabidopsis (Arabidopsis thaliana) Xyloglucan Endotransglucosylase-Hydrolase31 (XTH31) has predominately xyloglucan endohydrolase activity in vitro, loss of XTH31 results in remarkably reduced in vivo xyloglucan endotransglucosylase (XET) action and enhanced Al resistance. Here, we report that XTH17, predicted to have XET activity, binds XTH31 in yeast (Saccharomyces cerevisiae) two-hybrid and coimmunoprecipitations assays and that this interaction may be required for XTH17 XET activity in planta. XTH17 and XTH31 may be colocalized in plant cells because tagged XTH17 fusion proteins, like XTH31 fusion proteins, appear to target to the plasma membrane.

Because of their wide distribution and capability of transporting a large variety of compounds, organic anion-transporting polypeptides (OATPs) have been extensively recognized as crucial players in absorption, distribution, and excretion of various drugs. OATP1A2 was the first cloned human OATP and has been found to transport wide range of endogenous and exogenous compounds. Bovine Oatp1a2 (bOatp1a2) shares high homology with human OATP1A2 and is considered the functional ortholog of the latter.

The estrogenic endocrine disruptors in reclaimed water from domestic wastewater may induce health risks to human being, when reclaimed water is used for augmentation of drinking water unplannedly and indirectly. This study investigated changes in concentrations of estrone, estradiol, 17alpha-ethinyl estradiol, bisphenol A, nonylphenol and octylphenol in reclaimed water during the reuse of reclaimed water for augmentation to water source such as lakes and reservoir via river. Thereafter, health risk induced by estrogens during the resue of reclaimed water was evaluated.

The effects of biosurfactant alkyl polyglycosides (APG) on the hydrolysis and acidification of waste activited sludge including dosage of APG and hydrolysis time were investigated. It was found that APG reduced the tension of sludge hydrolysate, promoting sludge hydrolysis. The concentrations of SCOD, protein and soluble carbonhydrate reached the maximum within 12 h at the optimal dosage of 0.

The long-term stability of nitrogen removal from municipal landfill with high ammonia nitrogen (NH(4+)-N) content was investigated by using a biological system consisting of a first-stage up-flow anaerobic sludge bed (UASB) and sequencing batch reactor (SBR) under normal and low temperature conditions. The 623 days experimental results clearly showed: the efficient denitrification and methanogenesis were conducted in a same UASB reactor, and almost 100% of denitrification was obtained, when feed COD concentration ranged from 1,000 mg x L(-1) to 13 800 mg x L(-1), effluent COD concentration was between 150 mg x L(-1) and 1,234 mg x L(-1), and when the influent ammonia nitrogen (NH(4+)-N) changed from 574 mg x L(-1) to 2,360 mg-L(-1), the effluent NH:-N was below 10 mg x L(-1), the removal efficiency reached 90% and 98%, respectively. Especially, above 99.

By using aeroponics culture system, this paper studied the effects of elevated rhizosphere CO2 concentration on the leaf photosynthesis and the fruit yield and quality of muskmelon during its anthesis-fruiting period. In the fruit development period of muskmelon, as compared with those in the control (350 microL CO2 x L (-1)), the leaf chlorophyll content, net photosynthetic rate (Pn), stomatal conductance (Gs), intercellular CO2 concentration (Ci), and the maximal photochemical efficiency of PS II (Fv/Fm) in treatments 2500 and 5000 microL CO2 x L(-1) decreased to some extents, but the stomatal limitation value (Ls) increased significantly, and the variation amplitudes were larger in treatment 5000 microL CO2 x L(-1) than in treatment 2500 microL CO2 x L(-1). Under the effects of elevated rhizosphere CO2 concentration, the fruit yield per plant and the Vc and soluble sugar contents in fruits decreased markedly, while the fruit organic acid content was in adverse.
