Rationale And Objectives: Although both Multiple system atrophy (MSA) and Parkinson's disease (PD) belong to alpha-synucleinopathy, they have divergent clinical courses and prognoses. The degeneration of white matter has a considerable impact on cognitive performance, yet it is uncertain how PD and MSA affect its functioning in a similar or different manner.

Endothelial cells (ECs) form the inner linings of blood vessels, and are directly exposed to endogenous hazard signals and metabolites in the circulatory system. The senescence and death of ECs are not only adverse outcomes, but also causal contributors to endothelial dysfunction, an early risk marker of atherosclerosis. The pathophysiological process of EC senescence involves both structural and functional changes and has been linked to various factors, including oxidative stress, dysregulated cell cycle, hyperuricemia, vascular inflammation, and aberrant metabolite sensing and signaling.

Herein, we report a strategy to construct highly efficient perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) adsorbents by installing synergistic electrostatic/hydrophobic sites onto porous organic polymers (POPs). The constructed model material of PAF-1-NDMB (NDMB = N,N-dimethyl-butylamine) demonstrates an exceptionally high PFOA uptake capacity over 2000 mg g, which is 14.8 times enhancement compared with its parent material of PAF-1.

African swine fever (ASF) is a severe hemorrhagic disease in swine characterized by massive lymphocyte depletion and cell death, with apoptosis and necrosis in infected lymphoid tissues. However, the molecular mechanism regarding ASFV-induced cell death remains largely unknown. In this study, 94 ASFV-encoded proteins were screened to determine the viral proteins involved in cell death in vitro, and pE199L showed the most significant effect.

Adsorbable organic halogen (AOX) is a bulk organic parameter conventionally used to indicate all adsorbable halogenated organic disinfection byproducts formed in disinfected water. Analytically, AOX is determined by three sequential steps: 1) concentration and separation of AOX from halides with activated carbon, 2) conversion of AOX into halides with pyrolysis, and 3) quantification of halides via microcoulometry or ion chromatography (IC). Because the approach is relatively costly and cannot effectively recover non-adsorbable compounds, we herein proposed a facile and green pretreatment tool to measure the nonionic portion of total organic halogen (NTOX) with a new three-step approach: 1) separation of NTOX and halides with electrodialysis (ED), 2) conversion of NTOX into halides with ultraviolet, and 3) analysis of halides with IC.

Adsorbable organic halogen (AOX) is a parameter conventionally used to indicate the sum of organic halogenated disinfection byproducts (DBPs), which are formed from the reactions of disinfectants with dissolved organic matter, bromide and iodide in water. To overcome the issues of the AOX analytical method, we proposed a new facile and green pretreatment method to enable the analysis of nonionic total organic halogen (NTOX) via the following three steps: 1) separation of NTOX and halides with electrodialysis, 2) conversion of NTOX with ultraviolet (UV) photolysis, and 3) analysis of halides with ion chromatography. To verify this proposal, we mainly evaluated the efficiency of vacuum ultraviolet (VUV) coupled with UV photolysis (VUV-UV) in converting NTOX into halides.

Ion chromatography, fluorescence spectroscopy, UV-visible absorption spectroscopy and multivariate statistical analysis were applied to study the composition and evolution characteristics of dissolved organic matter (DOM) and heavy metal extracted from chicken manure during composting, and the influence of organic matter evolution on the bioavailability of these heavy metals was further investigated. The result showed that, a large number of organic acids were generated during the active stage, and their concentrations were in the range of 2097.55-2155.

Using a bioassay-guided fractionation technique, two compounds were isolated from the roots of Incarvillea younghusbandii Sprague through silica gel, reverse-phase C18 column chromatography and reverse-phase HPLC. Their structures were identified as acteoside (1) and isoacteoside (2) by ESI-MS, GC-MS, 1D- and 2D-NMR. 1 and 2 showed *OH scavenging capacity similar with benzoic acid, higher O2*- (or *OH) scavenging capacity than ascorbic acid, far higher hepatic LPO inhibitory activities than 2, 6-di-tert-butyl-4-methylphenol (BHT) or ascorbic acid, and more powerful effect on protecting erythrocytes from oxidative damage than ascorbic acid.

In our continuing efforts to explore the effects of ligand modifications on the structures and properties of their metal complexes, we studied the in situ [2 + 3] cycloaddition reactions of benzonitrile, o-phthalodinitrile, 3-cyanobenzoic acid, 4-cyanobenzoic acid with NaN(3) in the presence of Zn(II) and/or Co(II) salts under hydrothermal conditions, and obtained four new Co(II)-doped Zn(II)-tetrazole-benzoate coordination polymers with the formula of [Co(x)Zn(1-x)(L(m))(y)](n) [5-phenyl-1H-tetrazole (HL(1)) for 1, 2-(1H-tetrazol-5-yl)benzoic acid (H(2)L(2)) for 2, 3-(1H-tetrazol-5-yl)benzoic acid (H(2)L(3)) for 3, and 4-(1H-tetrazol-5-yl)benzoic acid (H(2)L(4)) for 4]. The structure of 1 shows a classical diamondoid net, while 2 and 3, take 2D layer structure with (4.6(2))(4.

Cyclodextrins (CDs) are used to deliver hydrophobic molecules in aqueous environments. Methyl-beta-cyclodextrin (MbetaCD), a member of this family of molecules, has been proposed to be a good carrier to deliver fatty acids to cells in culture.
