Auxetic materials hold tremendous potential for many advanced applications, but candidates are quite scarce, especially at two dimensions. Here, we focus on two-dimensional (2D) metal dichalcogenides and dihalides with the chemical formula MX2 by screening structures sharing the P4̄m2 space group among 330 MX2 compounds from the computational 2D materials database. Via high-throughput first-principles computations, 25 stable MX2 (M = Mg, Ca, Mn, Co, Ni, Cu, Zn, Ge, Cd, Sn; X = F, Cl, Br, I, O, S, Se) systems with in-plane negative Poisson's ratios (NPRs) are successfully identified.

The rules of how amino acids dictate the physical properties of biomolecular condensates are still incomplete. Here, we study condensates formed by tetrapeptides of the form XXssXX. Eight peptides form four types of condensates at different concentrations and pHs: droplets (X = F, L, M, P, V, and A), amorphous dense liquids (X = L, M, P, V, and A), amorphous aggregates (X = W), and gels (X = I, V, and A).

Engineering F-rich solid electrolyte interphase (SEI) layers is regarded as an effective strategy to enable the long-term cycling stability of potassium-ion batteries (KIBs). However, in the conventional KPF carbonate electrolytes, it is challenging to form F-containing SEI layers due to the inability of KPF to decompose into KF. Herein, AlCl is employed as a novel additive to change the chemical environment of the KPF carbonate electrolyte.

Despite many clinical trials, CAR-T cells are not yet approved for human solid tumor therapy. One popular target is mesothelin (MSLN) which is highly expressed on the surface of about 30% of cancers including mesothelioma and cancers of the ovary, pancreas, and lung. MSLN is shed by proteases that cleave near the C terminus, leaving a short peptide attached to the cell.

A central question in neural tissue engineering is how the tissue-engineered nerve (TEN) translates detailed transcriptional signals associated with peripheral nerve regeneration into meaningful biological processes. Here, we report a skin-derived precursor-induced Schwann cell (SKP-SC)-mediated chitosan/silk fibroin-fabricated tissue-engineered nerve graft (SKP-SCs-TEN) that can promote sciatic nerve regeneration and functional restoration nearly to the levels achieved by autologous nerve grafts according to behavioral, histological, and electrophysiological evidence. For achieving better effect of neuroregeneration, this is the first time to jointly apply a dynamic perfusion bioreactor and the ascorbic acid to stimulate the SKP-SCs secretion of extracellular matrix (ECM).

Background: The importance of mitochondria in normal heart function are well recognized and recent studies have implicated changes in mitochondrial metabolism with some forms of heart disease. Previous studies demonstrated that knockdown of the mitochondrial ribosomal protein S5 (MRPS5) by small interfering RNA (siRNA) inhibits mitochondrial translation and thereby causes a mitonuclear protein imbalance. Therefore, we decided to examine the effects of MRPS5 loss and the role of these processes on cardiomyocyte proliferation.

Background: FLNC (filamin C), a member of the filamin family predominantly expressed in striated muscles, plays a crucial role in bridging the cytoskeleton and ECM (extracellular matrix) in cardiomyocytes, thereby maintaining heart integrity and function. Although genetic variants within the N-terminal ABD (actin-binding domain) of FLNC have been identified in patients with cardiomyopathy, the precise contribution of the actin-binding capability to FLNC's function in mammalian hearts remains poorly understood.

Methods: We conducted in silico analysis of the 3-dimensional structure of mouse FLNC to identify key amino acid residues within the ABD that are essential for FLNC's actin-binding capacity.

-Glycosyl peptides possess excellent metabolic stability and therapeutic properties and thus play critical roles in biological studies as well as drug discoveries. However, the limited accessibility of -glycosyl amino acids has significantly hindered the broader research of their structural features and mode of action. Herein, for the first time we disclose a novel visible-light-driven radical conjugate addition of 1,4-dihydropyridine (DHP)-derived glycosyl esters with dehydroalanine derivatives, generating -glycosyl amino acids and -glycosyl peptides in good yields with excellent stereoselectivities.

The SARS-CoV-2 Omicron variant evades most currently approved neutralizing antibodies (nAbs) and caused drastic decrease of plasma neutralizing activity elicited by vaccination or prior infection, urging the need for the development of pan-variant antivirals. Breakthrough infection induces a hybrid immunological response with potentially broad, potent and durable protection against variants, therefore, convalescent plasma from breakthrough infection may provide a broadened repertoire for identifying elite nAbs. We performed single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) and BCR sequencing (scBCR-seq) of B cells from BA.
