Silicon-based anode materials with high theoretical capacity have great challenges of enormous volume expansion and poor electronic conductivity. Herein, a novel dual carbon confined SiO/C@void@Si/C yolk-shell monodisperse nanosphere with void space have been fabricated through hydrothermal reaction, carbonization, and in-situ low-temperature aluminothermic reduction. Furthermore, the O/Si ratio and void space between SiO/C core and Si/C shell can be effectively tuned by the length of aluminothermic reduction time.

Mechanical force-induced external root resorption is a major clinical side effect of orthodontic treatment. Recent work has revealed that M1 macrophages play a vital role in promoting orthodontic root resorption (ORR), but the mechanism of how mechanical force stimulation increases the M1/M2 macrophage ratio in periodontal tissue is poorly understood. In the current study, we showed that C-X-C motif chemokine 12 (CXCL12) periodontal ligament cells (PDLCs) and C-X-C chemokine receptor type 4 (CXCR4) monocytes in the periodontal ligament (PDL) were significantly increased after force application with ongoing root resorption, and these effects were partially rescued after force removal in mice.

Article Synopsis
  • Lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) are being researched for energy storage, with a focus on new anode materials using stanene-derived structures.
  • The study used density functional theory to show that when lithium is adsorbed, the semiconductor Sn-X (where X = C, Si, Ge) changes to a metallic state and provides high theoretical capacities for anodes—up to 1095.78 mA h g for Sn-Si.
  • The low diffusion barrier of Sn-X monolayers indicates they can support high charge and discharge rates, making them promising candidates for excellent battery anodes.

Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) secrete cytokines in a paracrine or autocrine manner to regulate immune response and tissue regeneration. Our previous research revealed that MSCs use the complex of Fas/Fas-associated phosphatase-1 (Fap-1)/caveolin-1 (Cav-1) mediated exocytotic process to regulate cytokine and small extracellular vesicles (EVs) secretion, which contributes to accelerated wound healing. However, the detailed underlying mechanism of cytokine secretion controlled by Cav-1 remains to be explored.

In recent years, the research on the physical properties of two-dimensional (2D) materials has attracted much attention. In this paper, the magnetic and ferroelectric (FE) properties of semi-hydrogenated graphene, silylene and germanene XH (X = C, Si, and Ge) under strain are systematically investigated. The results have shown that XH is a magnetic FE semiconductor with ferromagnetic (FM) and FE structures, both perpendicular to the plane, a large energy gap, and a high polarization reversal barrier.

Looking for a high-efficiency, durabile, and low-cost dual-functional oxygen electrocatalyst as the air electrode catalyst in rechargeable zinc-air batteries (ZABs) is urgently desirable but faces many challenges. Herein, we propose the preparation strategy of effectively using a bifunctional electrocatalyst (Fe-N/C) based on the zeolite imidazole organic framework-8 (ZIF-8) as the template agent, with surface modification coated by ferrocene (Fc) molecules followed by pyrolysis at high temperature under inert atmosphere. Benefiting from the surface modification of ZIF-8 with Fc molecules, more abundant multiple catalytic Fe/Fe-N/FeC sites with high intrinsic activity are derived, the resultant Fe-N/C exhibits excellent potential gap (Δ = 0.

It is well known that hyperbaric oxygen (HBO) therapy achieves neuroprotective effects by modulating neuroinflammatory responses. However, its underlying therapeutic mechanisms are not yet fully elucidated. Based on our previous studies, we further investigated whether HBO therapy exerts neuroprotective effects in vivo by regulating the nuclear factor-kappa B (NF-κB)/ mitogen-activated protein kinases (MAPKs) chemokine (C-X-C motif) ligand (CXCL)1 inflammatory pathway.
