The role of proinflammatory cytokines secreted by the bone marrow mesenchymal stromal cells (BM-MSCs) in the progression of acute myeloid leukemia (AML) is poorly understood. We compared C-X-C motif chemokine ligand (CXCL)8 expression levels in the BM-MSCs of patients with AML and normal control subjects and detected significantly higher levels in the former. Furthermore, CXCL8 was up-regulated in cocultures of BM-MSCs and leukemic cell lines compared with either monoculture.

Low conductivity and structural degradation of silicon-based anodes lead to severe capacity fading, which fundamentally hinders their practical application in Li-ion batteries. Here, we report a scalable Si/SiO @C anode architecture, which is constructed simultaneously by sintering a mixture of SiO/sucrose in argon atmosphere, followed by acid etching. The obtained structure features highly uniform Si nanocrystals embedded in silica matrices with well-controlled internal nanovoids, with all of them embraced by carbon shells.

Supercapacitor performance is reported for manganese silicate hybridized carbon materials (MnSi-C) that is derived from natural bamboo leaves. The in-situ generated manganese silicate is in good distribution by a simple hydrothermal treatment without the addition of another controlling agent. We also study the performance of MnSi-C as a single electrode and a cathode for fabrication of asymmetric supercapacitor device with a Ni(OH) anode.

Breast cancer (BrCa) is the malignant tumor that most seriously threatens female health; however, the molecular mechanism underlying its progression remains unclear. Here, we found that conditional deletion of hypermethylated in cancer 1 (HIC1) in the mouse mammary gland might contribute to premalignant transformation in the early stage of tumor formation. Moreover, the chemokine (C-X-C motif) ligand 14 (CXCL14) secreted by HIC1-deleted BrCa cells bound to its cognate receptor GPR85 on mammary fibroblasts in the microenvironment and was responsible for activating these fibroblasts via the ERK1/2, Akt, and neddylation pathways, whereas the activated fibroblasts promoted BrCa progression via the induction of epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) by the C-C chemokine ligand 17 (CCL17)/CC chemokine receptor 4 (CCR4) axis.

The search for ideal model systems to investigate the role of different parameters in heterojunction composites for enhanced photocatalysis is a high-priority target. Herein, a series of heterojunction composites, namely Na -C N /Pt@UiO-66, being composed of UiO-66 and Na-doped g-C N with adjustable light absorbance and band structures, have been prepared with different Na contents, which exhibit a volcano curve towards photocatalytic H production. Benefiting from the interplay of the two critical factors between light harvesting ability and electron transfer efficiency, the optimized Na -C N /Pt@UiO-66 shows excellent photocatalytic H production, far surpassing its corresponding single counterparts.
