Machine learning-based assessment of morphometric abnormalities distinguishes bipolar disorder and major depressive disorder.

Introduction: Bipolar disorder (BD) and major depressive disorder (MDD) have overlapping clinical presentations which may make it difficult for clinicians to distinguish them potentially resulting in misdiagnosis. This study combined structural MRI and machine learning techniques to determine whether regional morphological differences could distinguish patients with BD and MDD.

Methods: A total of 123 participants, including BD (n = 31), MDD (n = 48), and healthy controls (HC, n = 44), underwent high-resolution 3D T1-weighted imaging.

[Risk factors for plastic bronchitis in children with macrolide-unresponsive pneumonia and establishment of a nomogram model].

Objectives: To investigate the risk factors for plastic bronchitis (PB) in children with macrolide-unresponsive pneumonia (MUMPP) and to establish a nomogram prediction model.

Methods: A retrospective analysis was conducted on 178 children with MUMPP who underwent bronchoscopy from January to December 2023. According to the presence or absence of PB, the children were divided into a PB group (49 children) and a non-PB group (129 children).

Fusing multispectral information for retinal layer segmentation.

Extensive research on retinal layer segmentation (RLS) using deep learning (DL) is mostly approaching a performance plateau, primarily due to reliance on structural information alone. To address the present situation, we conduct the first study on the impact of multi-spectral information (MSI) on RLS. Our experimental results show that incorporating MSI significantly improves segmentation accuracy for retinal layer optical coherence tomography (OCT) images.

Subcritical water hydrolysis of eggshell membrane and its physicochemical characteristics.

The insolubility of eggshell membrane (ESM) limits it application. This study utilized a green process subcritical water (SW), to prepare soluble ESM and compared it with acid hydrolysis. The effect of SW temperature on the yields of total protein, free amino acids, and glycosaminoglycan in the hydrolysate was investigated.
