Objective: Coral reef atherosclerosis of the visceral aorta (CRA) is associated with renovascular hypertension (RVH), chronic mesenteric ischaemia (CMI), and malperfusion of the lower limbs (PAD). The outcomes of open surgery for this rare disease are described in this paper.

Methods: This retrospective study included all patients who underwent open surgical repair of CRA at a single high volume referral centre between January 2009 and June 2023.

Background: The aim of this study was to evaluate a new measurement tool for the preoperative computed tomography (CT) scan to estimate the endograft apposition surface on the proximal aortic neck of the aneurysm that would predict the risk of late type IA endoleak (EL1A).

Methods: From databases of 4 high-volume centers between 2004 and 2020, all patients who underwent Endovascular Aneuruysm Repair (EVAR) with the possibility of analyzing pre and post-EVAR scans and who presented late (>2 years) EL1A in follow-up were included retrospectively (EL1A group). A control group of randomly selected EL1A-free patients were included (control group) and followed-up beyond 4 years.

The surgical management of acute and chronic complex diseases involving the aortic arch and the descending thoracic aorta remains challenging. Hybrid procedures associating total open arch replacement and stent-grafting of the proximal descending aorta were developed to allow a potential single-stage treatment, promote remodeling of the downstream aorta, and facilitate a potential second-stage thoracic endovascular aortic repair by providing an ideal landing zone. While these approaches initially used various homemade combinations of available conventional prostheses and stent-grafts, the so-called frozen elephant trunk technique emerged with the development of several custom-made hybrid prostheses.
