Study Objective: While the laparoscopic approach is the surgical treatment of choice for ectopic pregnancy, vaginal Natural Orifice Transluminal Endoscopic Surgery (vNOTES) is emerging as an alternative route with its good optical visibility and avoidance of abdominal incisions. The authors compare demographics and outcome data of vNOTES vs conventional laparoscopic (CL) salpingectomy for the surgical management of ectopic pregnancy.

Prior studies evaluating high-dose acetylcysteine to treat high-risk ingestions have shown mixed results.

Focused stimulation of dorsal versus ventral subthalamic nucleus enhances action-outcome learning in patients with Parkinson's disease.

Deep brain stimulation of the subthalamic nucleus is an effective treatment for the clinical motor symptoms of Parkinson's disease, but may alter the ability to learn contingencies between stimuli, actions and outcomes. We investigated how stimulation of the functional subregions in the subthalamic nucleus (motor and cognitive regions) modulates stimulus-action-outcome learning in Parkinson's disease patients. Twelve Parkinson's disease patients with deep brain stimulation of the subthalamic nucleus completed a probabilistic stimulus-action-outcome task while undergoing ventral and dorsal subthalamic nucleus stimulation (within subjects, order counterbalanced).

Berberine was extracted from (tree turmeric) and purified by column chromatography. The UV-Vis absorption spectroscopy of berberine was studied in acetonitrile and aqueous media. TD-DFT calculations employing the B3LYP functional were found to reproduce the general features of the absorption and emission spectra correctly.

To observe how presence of endornaviruses influenced gene expression in the fungal host, we sequenced fungus-derived small RNA species from the virus-infected and virus-free isogenic lines and compared them.

Objective: Deep brain stimulation (DBS) is an effective treatment to improve motor symptoms in Parkinson's disease (PD). Lead and other toxic metals in plastic play foods: Results from testing citizen science, lead detection tools in childcare settings.

A method development pilot study examining citizen science tools for assessing lead in childcare settings identified plastic food toys as an unexpected potential source of lead and arsenic. Collaborating researchers at three universities sought to develop a low cost, replicable approach for use in childcare centers to identify lead. Through graduate Environmental Health courses at Northeastern and Boston Universities, 197 Plastic Food Toys (PFTs) used in a childcare center were tested for lead using a portable X-Ray fluorescence (XRF) instrument and a colorimetric wipe method for detecting surface lead.

Spillover of a Tobamovirus from the Australian Indigenous Flora to Invasive Weeds.

The tobamovirus yellow tailflower mild mottle virus (YTMMV) was previously reported in wild plants of species (family Solanaceae) and other solanaceous indigenous species growing in natural habitats in Western Australia. Here, we undertook a survey of two introduced solanaceous weeds, namely (black nightshade) and (cape gooseberry) in the Perth metropolitan area and surrounds to determine if YTMMV has spread naturally to these species. At a remnant natural bushland site where both solanaceous weeds and indigenous hosts grew adjacent to one another, a proportion of and plants were asymptomatically-infected with YTMMV, confirming spillover had occurred.
