Solar active region magnetogram image dataset for studies of space weather.

In this dataset we provide a comprehensive collection of line-of-sight (LOS) solar photospheric magnetograms (images quantifying the strength of the photospheric magnetic field) from the National Aeronautics and Space Administration's (NASA's) Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO). The dataset incorporates data from three sources and provides SDO Helioseismic and Magnetic Imager (HMI) magnetograms of solar active regions (regions of large magnetic flux, generally the source of eruptive events) as well as labels of corresponding flaring activity. This dataset will be useful for image analysis or solar physics research related to magnetic structure, its evolution over time, and its relation to solar flares.

Experimental Infection of Embryonic Cells and Embryonated Eggs of Cockatiels () with Two Parrot Bornavirus Isolates (PaBV-4 and PaBV-2).

Parrot bornavirus (PaBV) might be transmitted vertically. Cockatiel embryonic brain cells and embryonated eggs of cockatiels (ECE) were infected with PaBV-2 and PaBV-4. In embryonic brain cells, PaBV-2 and PaBV-4 showed no differences in viral spread despite the slower growth of PaBV-2 compared with PaBV-4 in CEC-32 cells.

An ergonomics training program for student notebook computer users: preliminary outcomes of a six-year cohort study.

Background: The Maine Learning Technology Initiative (MLTI) is a program established in the state of Maine in the United States of America, where all students in 7th and 8th grades are provided with a notebook computer to use at school and at home during the academic year.

Objective: This study aimed to describe the anthropometric measurements and typing proficiency of a cohort of students in the MLTI. It also investigated the impact of participatory ergonomics education and use of peripheral notebook accessories on their reported musculoskeletal and visual discomfort over the first three years of a six year study.

University students' notebook computer use: lessons learned using e-diaries to report musculoskeletal discomfort.

The objective of this pilot study was to identify if notebook accessories (ergonomic chair, desktop monitor and notebook riser) combined with a wireless keyboard, mouse and participatory ergonomics training would have the greatest impact on reducing self-reported upper extremity musculoskeletal discomfort in university students. In addition to pre-post computing and health surveys, the Ecological Momentary Assessment was used to capture change in discomfort over time using a personal digital assistant (PDA) as the e-diary. The PDA was programmed with a survey containing 45 questions.

Mortality from primary liver cancer in Switzerland from 1975 to 1994.

Background/aims: The aim of the present study was to analyze the mortality from primary liver cancer in Switzerland over a 20 year period and compare our results with the mortality data from Germany, France, Italy and Austria.

Methods: Absolute and age-standardized mortality rates for primary liver cancer from 1975 to 1994 were obtained from the Swiss Federal Office of Statistics. The corresponding figures (1980-1994) for Germany, France, Italy and Austria were extracted from the World Health Organization mortality database.

SycE allows secretion of YopE-DHFR hybrids by the Yersinia enterocolitica type III Ysc system.

The Ysc type III secretion system allows Yersinia enterocolitica to translocate virulence proteins, called Yop effectors, into the cytosol of eukaryotic cells. Some of the Yop effectors possess an individual chaperone called a Syc protein. The first 15 amino acids of the YopE effector constitute a secretion signal that is sufficient to promote secretion of several reporter proteins.
