Excavation waste from the construction of subways and other underground infrastructures is mainly composed of gravel, sand and clay of minimal economic value, which commonly ends up in landfills. Although the coarse sand and gravel of the excavation waste are typically recycled on site, a large amount of the fine-grained residue must be disposed of due to the prohibition of marine land reclamation in Xiamen, China, leading to an increasingly severe shortage of landfills. In this contribution, a new strategy was successfully developed for industrial-scale extraction of high value-added kaolin from the excavation waste of Xiamen.

Recently the layered oxide semiconductor BiOSe was hotly explored for its ultrahigh mobility and ultrafast photo-response whose physical origins need to be further explored or elucidated. Here, we have grown halogen (Cl, Br, I) doped and un-doped BiOSe single crystals by a melt-solidification method. Comparative electrical transport characterizations and detailed data-analysis substantiate that the electron-electron scattering is the major source of resistivity in un-doped BiOSe crystals; however, in halogen-doped BiOSe crystals, electron-electron scattering is only effective at low temperature (<60 K) and subsequently electron-phonon-interaction scattering is dominated to resistivity.

We obtained one new molecular ferroelectric material tris(2-hydroxyethyl) ammonium bromide () that crystallizes in aqueous solution at room temperature with a space group of 3 which belongs to ten polar space groups. There is a paraelectric-to-ferroelectric phase transition at 424 K (from hexagonal 3̅ to hexagonal 3 phase). Such a high transition temperature is close to that of diisopropylamine bromide (426 K) and higher than that of many other molecular ferroelectrics, such as triethylmethylammonium tetrabromoferrate(III) (360 K); some of the organic-inorganic perovskite ferroelectrics, such as (cyclohexylammonium)PbBr (363 K); and some inorganic ferroelectrics, including BaTiO (393 K).

Hybrid organic-inorganic halide perovskites (HOIPs) MAPbBr and their ramifications have emerged because of the photovoltaic, optical, and other fascinating performances of HOIPs in recent years. However, many intrinsic properties, such as crystal structure and ferroelectricity, are still controversial. In this work, the ferroelectricity of the orthorhombic and tetragonal MAPbBr single crystal was confirmed through the dielectric behavior versus bias electric field ε( E), the temperature-dependent pyroelectric current with positive/negative poling, and the positive-up-negative-down (PUND) measurements.

A family of air-stable (phenylbuta-1,3-diynyl)palladium(II) complexes were designed and prepared in a facile synthetic procedure. Their structures were characterized by (1)H and (13)C NMR, MS, and X-ray analysis. These Pd complexes were revealed to efficiently initiate the polymerization of phenyl isocyanides in a living/controlled chain growth manner, which led to the formation of poly(phenyl isocyanide)s with controlled molecular weights and narrow molecular weight distributions.

Based on the organic carbon data of 222 topsoil samples taken from 38 paddy field experiment sites in South China, calculations were made on the relative annual change of topsoil organic carbon content (RAC) and carbon sequestration duration in the paddy fields in South China under five fertilization modes (inorganic nitrogen fertilization, N; inorganic nitrogen and phosphorus fertilization, NP; inorganic nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium fertilization, NPK; organic fertilization, O; and inorganic plus organic fertilization, OF). The RAC under the fertilizations was 0-0.4 g x kg(-1) x a(-1), with an increment of 0.
