This is a case report of de novo development of two cerebral cavernous malformations adjacent to existing developmental venous anomalies. The development of cavernomas was noted over a follow-up period of 10 years. These developments happened during the course of staged endovascular management of a complex dural arterio-venous fistula along the right sphenoid wing.

In this study, we explored a novel PCR-RFLP method for typing the single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) rs1034794 of the human POT1 gene. A new restriction enzyme site was introduced into a POT1 gene amplification product by created restriction site PCR (CRS-PCR).
View Article and Find Full Text PDFHuman protection of telomeres 1 (POT1) gene is a single stranded telomere binding proteins with a critical role in ensuring chromosome stability. There have been variants of POT1 gene, and the polymorphisms of POT1 gene were associated with some diseases. Polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism (PCR-RFLP) is a traditional method to detect the single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP), and it can be used to detect the polymorphism of rs10250202.

However, the association between APOE gene polymorphisms and serum triglyceride levels remains controversial. We tested the effects of APOE variants on triglyceride levels and their interactions with the inflammatory marker C-reactive protein (CRP) in a Taiwanese population.

In order to identify the cortical changes in patients with Sialidosis type 1, diffusion tensor imaging and resting state fMRI were acquired from 11 patients and 11 sex/age matched normal controls after clinical evaluations. The neuroimages from each participant were normalized and parcellated according to the Automatic Anatomical Labeling. Both the mean diffusivity and the corresponding functional connectivity were calculated from each cortical region.

Here we explored the amber assignment as a sense codon for UAA by CRISPRi targeting release factor 1 (RF1). Scanning of RF1 gene with sgRNAs identified target loci that differentiate RF1 repressions.

Copy number variation (CNV) has been highlighted as a possible contributing factor to the etiology of many congenital diseases. However, little is known concerning the involvement of CNVs in either isolated or complex VSDs.

With increasing reaction time, the molar or degree of substitution of modified starches increased. SEM micrographs revealed that phosphorylated starch granules retained their relative integrity, while some cracks appeared on the surface of hydroxypropylated and hydroxypropyl-phosphorylated starch granules.

It is therefore highly desirable to develop tumor-specific treatment for NSCLC therapy by restoring p53 function. Herein, a novel naphthalimide compound, NA-17, was identified as a promising drug candidate in view of both its anticancer activity and mechanism of action.

However, change/decline of neurocognitive functions (NCFs) resulting from impaired hippocampal neurogenesis might occur after WBRT. It is reported that conformal hippocampal sparing would provide the preservation of NCFs.

Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a spectral neurodevelopment disorder affecting approximately 1% of the population. ASD is characterized by impairments in reciprocal social interaction, communication deficits and restricted patterns of behavior. Multiple factors, including genetic/genomic, epigenetic/epigenomic and environmental, are thought to be necessary for autism development.

Since the optimum treatment regimen remains inconclusive, we aimed to compare these therapies in terms of patient mortality or liver transplantation (MOLT) and adverse event (AE).
Methods: We searched PubMed, Embase, Scopus and the Cochrane Library for randomized controlled trials until August 2014.
Background: Whole brain radiotherapy (WBRT) is the treatment of choice for patients with brain metastases. However, neurocognitive functions (NCFs) decline due to impaired hippocampal neurogenesis might occur thereafter. It is hypothesized that conformal hippocampal avoidance during the course of WBRT (HA-WBRT) might provide meaningful NCF preservation.

Therefore, investigating the pathogenesis of HPV16 is very important for public health. Protein-protein interaction (PPI) network between HPV16 and human was used as a measure to improve our understanding of its pathogenesis.

This approach includes site-specific incorporation of an azide-bearing amino acid into IFN-α2b followed by orthogonal and stoichiometric conjugation of a variety of PEGs via a copper-free click reaction. By this approach, only the chosen site(s) within IFN-α2b is consistently PEGylated under mild conditions, leading to a single and homogenous conjugate.

Through systematic exploration of the structure-function relationship of lentiviral VSVg envelope by site-specific mutagenesis and incorporation of residues displaying azide- and diazirine-moieties, the modifiable sites on the vector surface were identified, with most at the PH domain that neither affects the expression of envelope protein nor propagation or infectivity of the progeny virus. Furthermore, via the incorporation of such chemical moieties, a variety of fluorescence probes, ligands, PEG and other functional molecules are conjugated, orthogonally and stoichiometrically, to the lentiviral vector.

ZnO-Al2O3 core-shell nanorods (NRs) have been fabricated through the vapor phase condensation method and atomic layer deposition. It is found that the nanorod comprises a wurtzite single crystalline ZnO core with the main axes along the [0001] direction and an amorphous Al2O3 shell. The temperature-dependent photoluminescence (PL) properties of the as-grown and annealed ZnO/Al2O3 NRs are investigated systematically.

Here we report certain pentacyclic triterpenes exhibiting conserved structure features and with in vitro anti-influenza virus activity comparable to and even higher than that of oseltamivir. Mechanistic studies indicated that these lead triterpenoids bind tightly to the viral envelope hemagglutinin (HA), disrupting the interaction of HA with the sialic acid receptor and thus the attachment of viruses to host cells.

The adjuvant chemotherapy, such as cisplatin, doxorubicin, and methotrexate has significantly improved survival of osteosarcoma patients. However, the chemoresistance which arose with the chemotherapy blocks achieving favorable outcomes for some patients and finally led to relapse or metastatic disease. Studies have shown paradoxical functions of autophagy in tumor development, which has been demonstrated by microRNAs.

Excessive triple CGG repeats in the FMR1 gene have been widely associated with premature ovarian failure. The number of AGG interruptions and length of uninterrupted CGG repeats have been correlated with repeat instability on transmission. In this study, FMR1 CGG repeats and AGG interruption status were determined by triplet-primed PCR in 117 premature ovarian failure patients and 82 matched controls.
