Background: Elevated lipoprotein(a) (Lp[a]) and apolipoprotein B (apoB) are individually associated with the risk of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD). Moreover, previous basic research has implicated the potential interaction between apoB and Lp(a) in the atherogenic process. We aimed to determine whether apoB levels significantly modulate ASCVD risk associated with Lp(a) in a large community-based population without baseline cardiovascular disease.

While the identification of critical ecological areas (CEAs) has been limited by the availability of resources, funds, and land space, these areas are central for maintaining the contributions from nature and ecosystem biodiversity. Thus, in this study, CEAs were systematically identified and classified via long-term ecosystem assessment with a multifunctionality-stability-integrity framework in the Yellow River Basin (YRB). The intensity and pathways of the driving factors of CEA dynamics were also determined by the geographical detector model (GDM) and the partial least squares structural equation model (PLS-SEM).

Gut microbiome plays a pivotal role in combating diseases and facilitating healthy aging, and natural products derived from biosynthetic gene clusters (BGCs) of the human microbiome exhibit significant biological activities. However, the natural products of the gut microbiome in long-lived populations remain poorly understood. Here, we integrated six cohorts of long-lived populations, encompassing a total of 1029 fecal metagenomic samples, and employed the metagenomic single sample assembled BGCs (MSSA-BGCs) analysis pipeline to investigate the natural products and their associated species.

Background: Previous studies have indicated that patients with Paroxysmal Kinesigenic Dyskinesia (PKD) exhibit reduced gray matter volume in certain brain regions within the cortico-striato-thalamo-cortical (CSTC) loop. However, a comprehensive investigation specifically targeting the CSTC loop in PKD has never been conducted.

Objectives: To provide evidence for the involvement of the CSTC loop in the pathogenesis of PKD from the perspective of structural alterations, this study carried out a surface-based morphometry (SBM), voxel-based morphometry (VBM), and structural covariance networks (SCN) combined analysis in familial PKD patients.

Nature's contributions to people (NCP) encompass both the beneficial and detrimental effects of living nature on human quality of life, including regulatory, material, and non-material contributions. Globally, vital NCPs have been deteriorating, accelerated by changes in both natural and anthropogenic drivers over recent decades. Despite the often inevitable trade-offs between NCPs due to their spatially and temporally uneven distributions, few studies have quantitatively assessed the impacts of different drivers on the spatial and temporal changes in multiple NCPs and their interrelationships.

The "KNDy neurons" located in the hypothalamic arcuate nucleus (ARC) of mammals are known to co-express kisspeptin, neurokinin B (NKB), and dynorphin (DYN), and have been identified as key mediators of the feedback regulation of steroid hormones on gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH). However, in birds, the genes encoding kisspeptin and its receptor GPR54 are genomic lost, leaving unclear mechanisms for feedback regulation of GnRH by steroid hormones. Here, the genes tachykinin 3 (TAC3) and prodynorphin (PDYN) encoding chicken NKB and DYN neuropeptides were successfully cloned.
