Article Synopsis
  • The neuroendocrine-immune (NEI) network is crucial for maintaining health, but the interaction between microRNAs (miRNAs) and transcription factors (TFs) within this network needs further exploration.
  • Researchers created a NEI-related miRNA-TF regulatory network (NEI-miRTF-N) to analyze immune signaling molecules and how signals may flow from the nervous and endocrine systems to the immune system.
  • Disease-specific versions of this network were developed for conditions like depression, Alzheimer's, and dilated cardiomyopathy, utilizing innovative methods to identify key regulatory pathways that could inform new treatment strategies.

Alternative splicing (AS) is a crucial mechanism to regulate gene expression and protein complexity. RNA-binding proteins (RBPs) play an important role in regulating abnormal alternative splicing in cancers. However, few resources are available to identify specific RBPs responsible for regulating individual AS event.

IL-8 (aka interleukin 8, CXCL8) is a prototypic cytokine that is highly expressed in the diseased vessel wall and its plasma concentration is strongly associated with cardiovascular events. However, whether IL-8 plays a causative role in cardiovascular diseases remains largely unknown. In this study we used a human IL-8 transgenic (Tg) mouse strain with a bacterial artificial chromosome (BAC) integrated into its genome.

Clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC) is a primary kidney cancer with high aggressive phenotype and extremely poor prognosis. Accumulating evidence suggests that circular RNAs (circRNAs) play pivotal roles in the occurrence and development of various human cancers. However, the expression, clinical significance and regulatory role of circRNAs in ccRCC remain largely unclear.

Background: Hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT), which is widely used in clinical practice, is aimed at improving nerve function impairment after brain injury. Meanwhile, the effects of music therapy on brain function are unclear. This retrospective study was conducted to explore the application effect of HBOT combined with music therapy on patients suffering from aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage (aSAH).

Low-salinity water injection (LSWI) is a recently emerged and promising technique to enhance oil recovery. In addition, it is attractive due to its relatively low-cost, environmental friendliness, and sustainability. However, the underlying mechanisms remain unclear, and very limited research has been conducted on heavy oil.

In contemporary society, the conversion and efficient utilization of waste biomass and its derivatives are of great significance. Carbonized wood (CW) is an easily accessible and cost-effective green resource, but it has limitations as an electrode material due to its low specific surface area, limited active sites and poor conductivity. Therefore, it is crucial to improve the performance of biomass-based materials by using activation, heteroatom doping and modification methods to enhance the specific surface area and active sites.

EGFR tyrosine kinase inhibitor (TKI) resistance is a major challenge for EGFR-mutant non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) treatment. Our previous work revealed that overexpression of AXL promoted EGFR-TKI resistance through epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) in a subset of NSCLC patients. Compared with erlotinib resistant and sensitive cells, RP11-874 J12.

Purpose: Colorectal cancer (CRC) refers to high-mortality tumors arising in the colon or rectum with a high rate of recurrence. The involvement of long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) contributes to the treatment and prognosis evaluation of CRC, and brings a new direction for the radical cure of patients. To identify the pathological mechanism and regulation of lncRNA LINC01128 (LINC01128) on CRC cells, and analyze its potential prognostic value.

We have developed a one-tube fluorescence strategy for the detection of B7-H3 based on a proximity hybridization-mediated protein-to-DNA signal transducer, isothermal exponential amplification (EXPAR), and dendritic hybridization chain reaction (D-HCR). In this assay, a protein signal transducer was employed to convert the input protein to output single-stranded DNA with a nicking site. Antibody-conjugated DNA1 was first hybridized with the output DNA (DNA3).

Whole genome doublings (WGD), a hallmark of human cancer, is pervasive in breast cancer patients. However, the molecular mechanism of the complete impact of WGD on survival and treatment response in breast cancer remains unclear. To address this, we performed a comprehensive and systematic analysis of WGD, aiming to identify distinct genetic alterations linked to WGD and highlight its improvement on clinical outcomes and treatment response for breast cancer.

Chronic prostatic inflammation promotes cell survival and fibrosis, leading to benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) with aggravated urinary symptoms. It is investigated whether yes-associated protein 1 (YAP1), an organ size controller and mechanical transductor, is implicated in inflammation-induced BPH. The correlation between YAP1 expression and fibrosis in human and rat BPH specimens is analyzed.

Accumulation of the heavy metal Cadmium (Cd) in the ovaries and placenta can affect the structure and function of these organs and induce female reproductive toxicity. This toxicity may be due to Cd's similarity to estrogen and its ability to disrupt endocrine systems. However, the exact molecular mechanism by which Cd causes reproductive toxicity at the transcriptome level remains poorly understood.

N4-acetylcytidine (ac4C) is a post-transcriptional RNA modification that regulates in various important biological processes. However, its role in human cancer, especially lymph node metastasis, remains largely unknown. Here, we demonstrated N-Acetyltransferase 10 (NAT10), as the only known "writer" of ac4C mRNA modification, was highly expressed in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) patients with lymph node metastasis.

Background: Alternative splicing events (ASEs) are vital causes of tumor heterogeneity in genitourinary tumors and many other cancers. However, the clinicopathological relevance of ASEs in cancers has not yet been comprehensively characterized.

Methods: By analyzing splicing data from the TCGA SpliceSeq database and phenotype data for all TCGA samples from the UCSC Xena database, we identified differential clinical feature-related ASEs in 33 tumors.

Bladder cancer (BC) is a complex disease affecting the urinary system and is regulated by several carcinogenic factors. Viral infection is one such factor that has attracted extensive attention in BC. Human papillomavirus (HPV) is the most common sexually transmitted infection, and although multiple researchers have explored the role of HPV in BC, a consensus has not yet been reached.
