Article Synopsis
  • - The study investigated how long malaria rapid diagnostic tests (RDT) and ultra-sensitive RDT (uRDT) remained positive after treatment in a low transmission area in Namibia, finding an average positivity duration of 42 days for RDT and 67 days for uRDT.
  • - Factors such as younger age, higher initial parasite density, and persistent parasitemia were linked to longer test positivity, indicating that the usual explanations for lingering positive results, like drug resistance, did not apply.
  • - These prolonged positivity durations highlight challenges in using RDTs and uRDTs for accurately identifying current infections in low transmission settings, as they might reflect residual parasite DNA rather than active infection.

Insomnia has now become a major health problem of global concern, with about 1/3 of the population suffering from sleep problems, a proportion that is still rising year by year. Most of the therapeutic drugs for insomnia currently used in clinical practice are not developed in a targeted manner, but are discovered by chance, and have unavoidable side effects such as addiction. Finding a safer and more effective therapeutic drug has become an urgent need for current research.

Li-rich Mn-based layered oxides (LRMOs) are regarded as the leading cathode materials to overcome the bottleneck of higher energy density. Nevertheless, they encounter significant challenges, including voltage decay, poor cycle stability, and inferior rate performance, primarily due to irreversible oxygen release, transition metal dissolution, and sluggish transport kinetics. Moreover, traditionally single modification strategies do not adequately address these issues.

Milky white urine is most commonly due to chyluria secondary to filariasis, though other causes of milky white urine and other etiologies of chyluria must be considered. Evaluation of a 3-year-old girl with milky white urine demonstrated chyluria, but testing for filariasis was negative despite a history of travel to an endemic region. Magnetic resonance lymphangiography demonstrated a congenital lymphatic malformation, which was repaired following this minimally invasive imaging technique.

Optimizing the local electronic structure of a single-atom catalyst (SAC) is crucial for efficient photocatalytic hydrogen evolution reactions. This study synthesized a Co-P/g-CN heterostructure by selective phosphidation of the Co metal-organic framework/graphitic carbon nitride (Co-MOF/g-CN), converting the Co-O configuration into a highly electronegative, coordinatively unsaturated Co-P configuration anchored to a carbon matrix. P-doping induces strong charge redistribution, shifting the -band center toward the Fermi level, transforming the Co sites from an electron-deficient state to an electron-rich state, and resulting in a significant reduction in the free energy barrier for HER to -0.

Herein, we developed a mild and efficient palladium-catalyzed carbonylative Sonogashira coupling of aryl thianthrenium salts with aliphatic alkynes and benzyl acetylene toward alkynones and furanones. Various desired products were prepared in good yields with broad functional group tolerance including the bromide group. In the case of using benzyl acetylene, the corresponding furanones can be obtained in good yields under the same conditions with two molecules of CO inserted.

Unlabelled: The effect of fungicides on the plant-rhizosphere microbiome is a subject of ongoing debate, but whether any alteration in the rhizosphere microbiome could affect plant health is an issue that has not been thoroughly investigated. To address this deficiency, we analyzed the rhizosphere microbiome of wilt disease-resistant and disease-susceptible cucumber cultivars to determine whether (and which) plant-associated microorganisms have a role in disease resistance. We further assessed whether the fungicides thiophanate-methyl and carbendazim affect the rhizosphere microbiome, which may contribute to the plant's immune response.
