Traditional object counting systems use object detection methods to count objects. However, when objects are small, crowded, and dense, object detection may fail, leading to inaccuracies in counting. To address this issue, we propose a crowded object counting system based on density map estimation.

This study focuses on the ionic contribution by a chiral dopant added into a nematic host for preparing cholesteric liquid crystals (CLCs). Chiral structures were designated by individually incorporating two enantiomers, R5011 and S5011, into the nematic E44 to construct right- and left-handed CLCs, respectively. Characterized by the space-charge polarization, the dielectric spectra of the CLCs were investigated in the low-frequency regime, where ≤ 1 kHz.

High-precision, ultra-thin angular detectable imaging upon a single pixel holds significant promise for light-field detection and reconstruction, thereby catalyzing advancements in machine vision and interaction technology. Traditional light-direction angle sensors relying on optical components like gratings and lenses face inherent constraints from diffraction limits in achieving device miniaturization. Recently, angle sensors via coupled double nanowires have demonstrated prowess in attaining high-precision angle perception of incident light at sub-wavelength device scales, which may herald a novel design paradigm for ultra-compact angle sensors.

As large language models continue to expand in size and diversity, their substantial potential and the relevance of their applications are increasingly being acknowledged. The rapid advancement of these models also holds profound implications for the long-term design of stimulus-responsive materials used in drug delivery. The large model used Hugging Face's Transformers package with BigBird, Gemma, and GPT NeoX architectures.

Methods: We identified a cohort of children born between 2000 and 2017, enrolled in the Tennessee Medicaid Program (TennCare), who either had DS coded on their birth certificate or had a diagnosis listed using an International Classification of Diseases (ICD) code (suspected DS), and who received care at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, a comprehensive academic medical center, in the United States. Children with suspected DS were defined as having DS if they had (a) karyotype-confirmed DS indicated on their birth certificate; (b) karyotype-pending DS indicated on their birth certificate (or just DS if test type was not specified) and at least two healthcare encounters for DS during the first 6 years of life; or (c) at least three healthcare encounters for DS, with the first and last encounter separated by at least 30 days, during the first six years of life.
Congenital heart disease (CHD) is a major cause of infant mortality and morbidity, with growing interest in the role of environmental factors in its etiology. Di-(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP), an environmental endocrine disruptor, has been implicated in the development of CHD. This study aimed to investigate the effects of DEHP exposure on fetal heart development in mice.

However, when cells are randomly oriented or localized disorder exists in orderly oriented collective cells, cell migration cannot occur in an orderly manner although various motion modes such as global rotation and local swirling and/or various motion patterns such as radial pattern and chiral pattern often occur. Therefore, it is important to control cell orientation to ensure the orderly migration of collective cells.

However, there is still unmet need to dissect response predict biomarkers. To uncover CPI response-related marker genes in cancer cells, we utilized SCISSOR, integrating single-cell RNA and bulk RNA sequencing data.

Social relationships offer crucial supplementary information for recommendations by leveraging users' social connections to gain insights into their preferences. However, prevalent social recommendation methods often grapple with the issues of sparsity and noise, which curtail their effectiveness. In addition, these methods overlook the intricacies of user interactions within social networks, which could provide invaluable information.

Female mice were randomly assigned into control (CON), EGCG-treated (EGCG), high-fat diet (HFD), and HFD with EGCG treatment (HFDEGCG) groups. Key measurements included body weight, vaginal opening time, and serum sex hormone levels.

We used data from the IPF-PRO Registry to investigate whether the addition of "omics" data to risk prediction models based on demographic and clinical characteristics improved prediction of the progression of IPF.
Methods: The IPF-PRO Registry enrolled patients with IPF at 46 sites across the US.
Spinal cord injury (SCI) often accompanies impairment of motor function, yet there is currently no highly effective treatment method specifically for this condition. Oxidative stress and inflammation are pivotal factors contributing to severe neurological deficits after SCI. In this study, a type of curcumin (Cur) nanoparticle (HA-CurNPs) was developed to address this challenge by alleviating oxidative stress and inflammation.

Background: Pyruvate dehydrogenase kinases (PDHKs), important metabolic and abnormally expressed enzymes in cancer cells, are promising targets for cancer therapy, especially for non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC).
Methods: In this study, a new hit, dichloroacetophenone (DAP) analog , was postulated to bind to the PDHK1 allosteric pocket, guided by molecular modeling and kinase biochemical experiments. Based on this binding mode, novel DAP analogs were designed and synthesized to confirm the importance of Phe180, Tyr411, and the hydrophobic core at the bottom of the pocket.
The sericulture industry faces a significant threat from the Pebrine disease of silkworms, caused by Nosema bombycis. Nonetheless, the current microscopic diagnostic methods can be time-consuming, labor-intensive, and lacking sensitivity and accuracy. Therefore, it is crucial to develop a novel detection approach that is efficient, highly sensitive, and low-cost.

Among the iron-oxygen intermediates, iron(III)-peroxo species are less frequently implicated as active intermediates in oxidation reactions. In this study, we present the combined experimental and theoretical investigations on -dihydroxylation reactions mediated by synthetic mononuclear nonheme iron-peroxo intermediates, demonstrating the importance of supporting ligands and metal centers in activating the peroxo ligand toward the O-O bond homolysis for the -dihydroxylation reactions.
