Introduction: Total thyroidectomy is associated with a high rate of transient or permanent hypoparathyroidism. During surgery, indocyanine green (ICG) fluorescein angiography can be used to detect and preserve well-vascularized parathyroid glands. This technique has been introduced as an intraoperative support to prevent postoperative hypoparathyroidism.

The 1,2,4,5-tetrakis(alkylthio)benzenes are redox-active organosulfur molecules that support oxidation to a stable radical cation. Their utility as ligands for the assembly of multimetal complexes with tailored functionality/property is unexamined. Here, 1,2,4,5-tetrakis(isopropylthio)benzene (tptbz, ) is shown to bind PdCl at either one end, leaving the other open, or at both ends to form centrosymmetric [ClPd(tptbz)PdCl], .

Background: Vitamins are involved in various human physiological and biochemical mechanisms due to their antioxidant properties and their ability to enhance the immune response. Deficiency of some serum vitamins has been reported to be associated with an increased risk of developing cancer, including thyroid cancer. However, medical literature dealing with cholecalciferol supplementation was not able to show the potential of this intervention in cancer prevention.

The first flush occurs during urban runoff events. In this study, we aimed to assess the characteristics of different-sized particles in the first flush of roof runoff, and runoff was collected from an asphalt roof (AR), metal roof (MR), and cement roof (CR) for analysis. There were no clear patterns in the particle size distributions in the runoff from the three roofs and were affected by several factors.

To inform clinical practice for women receiving post-mastectomy radiotherapy (PMRT), this study demonstrates the dosimetric impact of removing daily bolus on skin and subcutaneous tissue. Two planning strategies were used: clinical field-based (n = 30) and volume-based planning (n = 10). The clinical field-based plans were created with bolus and recalculated without bolus for comparison.

Objective: Percutaneous transforaminal endoscopic surgery (PTES) is a novel, minimally invasive technique used to treat lumbar degenerative diseases (LDDs). PTES under local anesthesia was performed to treat the culprit segment of LDDs predicted by radiologic images or clinical symptoms, and the efficacy, security, and feasibility were evaluated.

Methods: Eighty-seven cases of LDDs with nerve root symptoms, which were not consistent with lumbar degenerative levels and degrees on MRI and CT, were treated with PTES under local anesthesia in a day surgery ward from January 2015 to December 2019.

Objective: Oblique lumbar interbody fusion (OLIF) has been used to treat lumbar spine spondylolisthesis. However, it usually needs posterior pedicle screws fixation for biomechanical stability and possible posterior direct decompression for relieving neurologic symptoms. We use percutaneous transforaminal endoscopic surgery (PTES) combined with mini-incision OLIF and anterolateral screws rod fixation for surgical treatment of lumbar spondylolisthesis.

Despite the increasingly innovative techniques developed in thyroid surgery to offer patients minimally invasive and scarless interventions, conventional open procedures still account for most of the interventions performed in this field. The surgical incision length has been significantly reduced, from 6-9 cm to 3 cm, and therefore patients perceive the scar to be highly acceptable. In this technical note, we present the use of a new single retractor (APOLLO®; AFS MEDICAL GmbH, Teesdorf, Austria) for conventional open thyroidectomies with intraoperative neuromonitoring.
