Purpose: The presences of a double layer sign (DLS) and a shallow irregular retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) elevation (SIRE) were investigated using spectral domain-OCT (SD-OCT) imaging to determine their ability to predict progression to exudative macular neovascularization (eMNV) in the unaffected fellow eyes (study eye) of participants with age-related macular degeneration (AMD) with newly diagnosed unilateral eMNV.

Design: Retrospective, reanalysis of SD-OCT scans of study eyes from the Early Detection of Neovascular AMD (EDNA) study with 3 years follow-up (FU).

The eastern North Pacific right whale (NPRW) is the most endangered population of whale and has been observed north of its core feeding ground in recent years with low sea ice extent. Sea ice and water temperature are important drivers for zooplankton dynamics within the whale's core feeding ground in the southeastern Bering Sea, seasonally forming stable fronts along the shelf that give rise to distinct zooplankton communities. A northward shift in NPRW distribution driven by changing distribution of prey resources could put this species at increased risk of entanglement and vessel strikes.

Increases in postprandial lipids are linked to the development of cardiometabolic and fatty liver disease. Prior work has suggested that dairy possesses beneficial cardiometabolic effects and thus the aim of the current investigation was to test the hypotheses that the habitual consumption of dairy, in the form of skim milk powder (SMP), would protect against increases in circulating lipids and liver lipid accumulation following an oral fat challenge in rats. Male rats were fed either a semipurified low-fat control diet with casein or a diet with an equivalent amount of protein (∼13% kcal) provided through skim milk powder (SMP) for 6 weeks (n = 40/group).

First-trimester prediction of preterm pre-eclampsia and prophylaxis by aspirin: Effect on spontaneous and iatrogenic preterm birth.

Objective: To report the predictive performance for preterm birth (PTB) of the Fetal Medicine Foundation (FMF) triple test and National Institute for health and Care Excellence (NICE) guidelines used to screen for pre-eclampsia and examine the impact of aspirin in the prevention of PTB.

Facultative heterochromatin controls development and differentiation in many eukaryotes. In metazoans, plants, and many filamentous fungi, facultative heterochromatin is characterized by transcriptional repression and enrichment with nucleosomes that are trimethylated at histone H3 lysine 27 (H3K27me3). While loss of H3K27me3 results in derepression of transcriptional gene silencing in many species, additional up- and downstream layers of regulation are necessary to mediate control of transcription in chromosome regions enriched with H3K27me3.

Quadruplet pregnancy outcome with and without fetal reduction: Danish national cohort study (2008-2018) and comparison with dichorionic twins.

Objectives: To perform a nationwide study of quadrichorionic quadriamniotic (QCQA) quadruplet pregnancies and to compare the pregnancy outcome in those undergoing fetal reduction with non-reduced quadruplets and dichorionic diamniotic (DCDA) twin pregnancies from the same time period.

Methods: This was a retrospective Danish national register-based study performed using data from the national Danish Fetal Medicine Database, which included all QCQA quadruplets and all non-reduced DCDA twin pregnancies with an estimated due date between 2008 and 2018. The primary outcome measure was a composite of adverse pregnancy outcomes, including pregnancy loss or intrauterine death of one or more fetuses.

Incidence of neonatal morbidity in small-for-gestational-age twins based on singleton and twin charts.

Objective: To compare morbidity, as measured by length of stay in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU), in twin and singleton gestations classified as small-for-gestational age (SGA) according to estimated fetal weight < 10 percentile on twin or singleton growth charts.

Methods: NICU length of stay was compared in 1150 twins and 29 035 singletons that underwent ultrasound assessment between 35 + 0 and 36 + 6 weeks' gestation. Estimated fetal weight was obtained from measurements of head circumference, abdominal circumference and femur length using the Hadlock formula.

Public health agencies worldwide have offered the IMVANEX Smallpox vaccination to these individuals at high-risk to provide protection and limit the spread of MPXV.

Structural variation, magnetism and single-source deposition of lanthanide-containing polyoxotitanates.

Heterometal-containing polyoxotitanates (POTs) are much-studied single-source precursors (SSPs) for doped TiO. In this work the properties of a wide range of lanthanide-containing POTs are studied to assess their potential use as SSPs for Ln-Ti hybrid oxides. The novel cage compounds [{TiO(OEt)}(EtOH·LnCl)] (Ln = Sm, Gd, Tb, Dy, Ho, Tm and Yb) are structurally characterised.

Search for Exotic Higgs Boson Decays H→AA→4γ with Events Containing Two Merged Diphotons in Proton-Proton Collisions at sqrt[s]=13 TeV.

We present the first direct search for exotic Higgs boson decays H→AA, A→γγ in events with two photonlike objects. The hypothetical particle A is a low-mass spin-0 particle decaying promptly to a merged diphoton reconstructed as a single photonlike object. We analyze the data collected by the CMS experiment at sqrt[s]=13  TeV corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 136  fb^{-1}.

Identifying the severity of diabetic retinopathy by visual function measures using both traditional statistical methods and interpretable machine learning: a cross-sectional study.

Aims/hypothesis: To determine the extent to which diabetic retinopathy severity stage may be classified using machine learning (ML) and commonly used clinical measures of visual function together with age and sex.

Methods: We measured the visual function of 1901 eyes from 1032 participants in the Northern Ireland Sensory Ageing Study, deriving 12 variables from nine visual function tests. Missing values were imputed using chained equations.

The first observation of the production of W^{±}W^{±} bosons from double parton scattering processes using same-sign electron-muon and dimuon events in proton-proton collisions is reported. However, blood collection poses significant challenges for autistic children with repetitive behaviors and sensory and communication issues, often necessitating physical restraint or sedation. Medicare Part D Coverage of Anti-obesity Medications: a Call for Forward-Looking Policy Reform.

When the Medicare Part D benefit was constructed, drugs for weight loss were explicitly excluded from coverage, as the limited effectiveness and unfavorable safety profile of medications available at the time failed to justify coverage of drugs perceived to be used for cosmetic purposes. In recent years, drugs activating the glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor (GLP-1R) pathway have proved to achieve significant reductions in body weight with a favorable safety profile. The effectiveness of GLP-1R agonists in reducing weight and improving the metabolic profile warrants the reconsideration of the historical exclusion of weight loss drugs from Part D coverage.

Preoperative iron infusion does not reduce the requirement for blood transfusion in colorectal cancer surgery.

Background: Allogeneic blood transfusions (BT) for patients undergoing colorectal cancer surgery have demonstrated to increase postoperative morbidity and mortality. It has been suggested that the utilization of preoperative iron infusions may reduce the requirement for allogeneic BT in these patients. The aim of this project is to ascertain whether the preoperative use of intravenous iron is significantly associated with a reduction in perioperative blood transfusion requirement.
