Hexagonal Si Ge with suitable alloy composition promises to become a new silicon compatible direct bandgap family of semiconductors. Theoretical calculations, however, predict that the binary end point of this family, the bulk hex-Ge crystal, is only weakly dipole active. This is in contrast to hex-Si Ge , where translation symmetry is broken by alloy disorder, permitting efficient light emission.

Whether similar adaptations are observed after the ingestion of a mixed-macronutrient meal is unclear.
Methods: In a secondary analysis of data derived from two randomised, controlled trials, we studied the temporal responses of insulin clearance after the ingestion of a standardised breakfast meal consisting of cereal and milk in lean normoglycaemic individuals (n=12; Lean-NGT), normoglycaemic individuals with central obesity (n=11; Obese-NGT) and in people with type 2 diabetes (n=19).
Among the experimental realization of fault-tolerant topological circuits are interconnecting nanowires with minimal disorder. Out-of-plane indium antimonide (InSb) nanowire networks formed by merging are potential candidates. Yet, their growth requires a foreign material stem usually made of InP-InAs.

The recently developed hexagonal SiGe semiconductor features a direct bandgap at least for x > 0.65, and the realization of quantum heterostructures would unlock new opportunities for advanced optoelectronic devices based on the SiGe system.

Furthermore, the global population is also growing, such that by 2050, it is estimated to exceed ~ 9 billion. While most of this expansion in population is expected to occur in developing countries, in high-income countries there are also predicted changes in demographics, with major increases in the number of older people.

In addition, when hip preservation surgery is no longer indicated due to the presence of early or mild arthritic changes, THA can also be considered. Whether these patients can expect the same outcome after THA as patients who have end-stage OA remains unclear.

The monolithic integration is, however, severely hampered by the inability of Si to efficiently emit light. Recently, important progress has been made by the demonstration of efficient light emission from direct-bandgap hexagonal SiGe (hex-SiGe) alloy nanowires.

The site specific attachment of the reactive TMTHSI-click handle to the N-terminus of peptides and proteins is described. The resulting molecular constructs can be used in strain-promoted azide alkyne cycloaddition (SPAAC) for reaction with azide containing proteins , antibodies, peptides, nanoparticles, fluorescent dyes, chelators for radioactive isotopes and SPR-chips .
View Article and Find Full Text PDFA central characteristic of insulin resistance is the impaired ability for insulin to stimulate glucose uptake into skeletal muscle. While insulin resistance can occur distal to the canonical insulin receptor-PI3k-Akt signaling pathway, the signaling intermediates involved in the dysfunction are yet to be fully elucidated. β-catenin is an emerging distal regulator of skeletal muscle and adipocyte insulin-stimulated GLUT4 trafficking.

The forearm is the most common site of fracture in children. At the time of initial assessment, a thorough examination and neurovascular assessment of the limb is necessary. X-rays allow evaluation of the fracture location and type, in addition to the degree of displacement.

Methods: Supine and standing anteroposterior (AP) pelvic radiographs were retrospectively analyzed in 69 patients treated for symptomatic acetabular retroversion.
Background: Engaging in both resistance and endurance exercise within the same training program, termed 'concurrent exercise training,' is common practice in many athletic disciplines that require a combination of strength and endurance and is recommended by a number of organizations to improve muscular and cardiovascular health and reduce the risk of chronic metabolic disease. Dietary protein ingestion supports skeletal muscle remodeling after exercise by stimulating the synthesis of muscle proteins and can optimize resistance exercise-training mediated increases in skeletal muscle size and strength; however, the effects of protein supplementation on acute and longer-term adaptive responses to concurrent resistance and endurance exercise are unclear.
Objectives: The purpose of this systematic review is to evaluate the effects of dietary protein supplementation on acute changes in muscle protein synthesis and longer-term changes in muscle mass, strength, and aerobic capacity in responses to concurrent resistance and endurance exercise in healthy adults.
Aims: Adoption of virtual clinics has been accelerated by the COVID-19 pandemic and they will continue to form an integral part of healthcare delivery. Our objective was to evaluate virtual clinics in orthopaedic practice and determine how to use them effectively and sustainably.
Methods: We surveyed 100 consecutive patients participating in orthopaedic virtual phone clinic (VPC) at an academic hospital to evaluate patient satisfaction against face-to-face (F2F) consultations and obtain suggestions for improving patient experience, and we surveyed 23 clinicians who conducted orthopaedic VPCs in 2020.

Purpose: The trochlear dysplastic femur has a specific morphotype previously characterised by not only dysplastic features of the trochlea but also by specific features of the notch and posterior femur. In this study the morphology of the tibia and patella was investigated to gain further insight in the complete geometrical complexity of the trochlear dysplastic knee.
Methods: Arthro-CT scan-based 3D models of 20 trochlear dysplastic and 20 normal knees were uniformly scaled and landmarks and landmark-based reference planes were created to quantify a series of morphometric characteristics of the tibia and patella.
Background: The demand for noninvasive skin-tightening body procedures is increasing.
Objective: To develop a set of grading scales for the objective assessment of skin laxity and assess their reliability and validity.
Materials And Methods: Two photonumeric grading scales were created and validated for skin laxity in female patients: Skin Laxity-Posterior Thighs/Buttocks, and Anterior Thighs/Knees.
Background: New treatment methods for cellulite require globally accepted scales for aesthetic research and patient evaluation.
Objective: To develop a set of grading scales for objective assessment of cellulite dimples on female buttocks and thighs and assess their reliability and validity.
Materials And Methods: Two photonumeric grading scales were created and validated for dimples in the buttocks in female patients: Cellulite Dimples-At Rest, and Cellulite Dimples-Dynamic.
Background: Protein ingestion during recovery from resistance-type exercise increases postexercise muscle protein synthesis rates. Whey protein has been reported to have greater anabolic properties than soy protein, an effect which may be attributed to the higher leucine content of whey.
Objective: The objective of this study was to compare postprandial myofibrillar (MyoPS) and mitochondrial (MitoPS) protein synthesis rates after ingestion of carbohydrate with whey, soy, or soy protein enriched with free leucine (to match the leucine content of whey) during recovery from a single bout of concurrent resistance- and endurance-type exercise in young healthy men.
Background: Whey and micellar casein are high-quality dairy proteins that can stimulate postprandial muscle protein synthesis rates. How whey and casein compare with milk protein in their capacity to stimulate postprandial myofibrillar (MyoPS) and mitochondrial (MitoPS) protein synthesis rates during postexercise recovery is currently unknown.
Objective: The objective of this study was to compare postprandial MyoPS and MitoPS rates after protein-carbohydrate co-ingestion with milk protein, whey, or micellar casein during recovery from a single bout of concurrent resistance- and endurance-type exercise in young healthy men.
Background: Calcium hydroxylapatite (CaHA) is approved to correct moderate-to-severe wrinkles and folds and soft-tissue volume loss in the face and hands. More recently, subdermal injection using diluted CaHA has been used to improve skin laxity.
Objective: To review evidence for the safe and effective use of diluted CaHA in the face and body and provide best practice recommendations.
Background: Various reports have suggested that epidemiological patterns of Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) are changing in high-income countries, but the evidence to support this is often indirect and only a few longitudinal studies exist. We aimed to explore epidemiological patterns of TBI in Belgium over a 10-year period.
Methods: A retrospective analysis of Minimum Hospital Data provided by Statistics Belgium was performed for the period 2003-2012.
