The present study aimed to identify fecal microbiota composition and volatile metabolomics preceding LOM.
Methods: Cases and gestational age-matched controls were selected from a prospective, longitudinal preterm cohort study (born <30 weeks' gestation) at nine neonatal intensive care units.
Background And Aims: Histological outcomes and JAK-STAT signalling were assessed in a prospective ulcerative colitis [UC] patient cohort after 8 weeks treatment with tofacitinib, an oral Janus kinase [JAK] inhibitor.
Methods: Forty UC patients received tofacitinib 10 mg twice daily for 8 weeks. Treatment response was defined as histo-endoscopic mucosal improvement [HEMI].
Innervation of the intestinal mucosa by the sympathetic nervous system is well described but the effects of adrenergic receptor stimulation on the intestinal epithelium remain equivocal. We therefore investigated the effect of sympathetic neuronal activation on intestinal cells in mouse models and organoid cultures, to identify the molecular routes involved. Using publicly available single-cell RNA sequencing datasets we show that the α isoform is the most abundant adrenergic receptor in small intestinal epithelial cells.

The aim of this study was to assess normal intestinal anastomotic healing and disturbed healing in rats to investigate morphological, cellular and intrinsic molecular changes in the anastomotic tissue.
Method: Anastomoses were created in two groups of Wistar rats, using four sutures or 12 sutures to mimic anastomotic leakage and anastomotic healing respectively.
Objective: Little is known about intestinal anastomotic leakage and stenosis in young children (≤3 years of age). The purpose of this study is to answer the following questions: (1) what is the incidence of anastomotic stenosis and leakage in infants? (2) which surgical diseases entail the highest incidence of anastomotic stenosis and leakage? (3) what are perioperative factors associated with anastomotic stenosis and leakage?
Methods: Patients who underwent an intestinal anastomosis during primary abdominal surgery in our tertiary referral centre between 1998 and 2018 were retrospectively included. Both general incidence and incidence per disease of anastomotic complications were determined.
Over 90% of preterm neonates are, often empirically, exposed to antibiotics as a potentially life-saving measure against sepsis. Long-term outcome in association with antibiotic exposure (NABE) has insufficiently been studied after preterm birth. We investigated the association of NABE-duration with early-childhood developmental and health outcomes in preterm-born children and additionally assessed the impact of GA on outcomes.

GWAS studies have shown an association between single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) and diverse autoimmune and inflammatory diseases, suggesting a possible pathogenic role for SP140 in immune-mediated diseases. We previously demonstrated that treatment of human macrophages with the novel selective inhibitor of the SP140 protein (GSK761) reduced the expression of endotoxin-induced cytokines, implicating a role of SP140 in the function of inflammatory macrophages.

We aimed to assess if reaching remission with nutritional therapy is mediated by correcting compositional or functional dysbiosis.
Methods: We assessed metagenome sequences, short chain fatty acids [SCFA] and bile acids [BA] in 54 paediatric CD patients reaching remission after nutritional therapy [with CDED + PEN or EEN] [NCT01728870], compared to 26 paediatric healthy controls.
