Lesions of the primary visual cortex (V1) cause retrograde neuronal degeneration, volume loss and neurochemical changes in the lateral geniculate nucleus (LGN). Here we characterised the timeline of these processes in adult marmoset monkeys, after various recovery times following unilateral V1 lesions. Observations in NeuN-stained sections obtained from animals with short recovery times (2, 3 or 14 days) showed that the volume and neuronal density in the LGN ipsilateral to the lesions were similar to those in the contralateral hemispheres.

Based on retrograde tracer injections in marmoset monkeys, we report that the amygdala forms widespread projections to the ipsilateral extrastriate cortex, including V1 and areas in both the dorsal (MT, V4T, V3a, 19M, and PG/PFG) and the ventral (VLP and TEO) streams. Methods: The literature search focused on studies that included a sample of graduate nursing students who participated in an SDH simulation-based education (SBE). The timeframe used was 2013 to 2023 as this is when SBE emerged in graduate nursing education.
Background: A Mental Health Task Force (MHTF) was developed in a large public college of nursing in the Southeastern United States to address the urgent mental health needs expressed by growing numbers of nursing students related to the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
Aims: The purpose of this study was to report on a needs assessment conducted by the MHTF.
Methods: The needs assessment study design was a 16-item cross-sectional online survey and four "Town Hall" focus groups with nursing students, faculty, and staff ( = 1-8 participants per group).
Parvalbumin (PV) is a calcium-binding protein that labels neuronal cell bodies in the magno and parvocellular layers of the primate lateral geniculate nucleus (LGN). Here we demonstrate that PV immunohistochemistry can also be used to trace the optic radiation (OR) of the marmoset monkey () from its LGN origin to its destinations in the primary visual cortex (V1), thus providing a high-resolution method for identification of the OR with single axon resolution. The emergence of fibers from LGN, their entire course and even the entry points to V1 were clearly defined in coronal, parasagittal, and horizontal sections of marmoset brain.

In contrast with the classical view that posterior parietal areas receive afferents primarily from the dorsal and posterior regions of the claustrum, we found that these areas receive more extensive projections, including substantial afferents from the anterior and ventral regions of the claustrum. Moreover, our findings uncover a previously unsuspected variability in the precise regions of the claustrum that originate the projections, according to the target areas.

We report on a new open access template of the marmoset cortex (the Nencki-Monash, or NM template), representing a morphological average of 20 brains of young adult individuals, obtained by 3D reconstructions generated from Nissl-stained serial sections. The method used to generate the template takes into account morphological features of the individual brains, as well as the borders of clearly defined cytoarchitectural areas.
