Biodiversity increases ecosystem functions underpinning a suite of services valued by society, including services provided by soils. To test whether, and how, future environments alter the relationship between biodiversity and multiple ecosystem functions, we measured grassland plant diversity effects on single soil functions and ecosystem multifunctionality, and compared relationships in four environments: ambient conditions, elevated atmospheric CO, enriched N supply, and elevated CO and N in combination. Our results showed that plant diversity increased three out of four soil functions and, consequently, ecosystem multifunctionality.

MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are a class of small (∼22 nucleotides), non-coding, highly conserved single-stranded RNAs with posttranscriptional regulatory features, including the regulation of cell proliferation, differentiation, survival, and apoptosis. They are deregulated in a broad variety of tumors showing characteristic expression patterns and can, thus, be used as a diagnostic tool. In contrast to non-small cell carcinoma of the lung neuroendocrine lung tumors, encompassing typical and atypical carcinoids, small cell lung cancer and large cell neuroendocrine lung cancer, no data about deregulation of tumor entity-specific miRNAs are available to date.

Histone deacetylase inhibitor (HDACI) valproic acid (VPA) is a promising drug, currently in clinical phase 2, for the therapy of advanced/poorly differentiated thyroid cancer.
